Hi. I had surgery on my bunion 12 weeks ago. It was pretty pain free. I had pain for about 2 days after the op where I had to take regular pain killers but not stong ones. I was pretty mobile which I didn't expect. You are given a special shoe to wear which enables all your wait to be positioned on the heel of the foot. Therefore I was able to go up and down stairs and tackle light housework. I was given no crutches to use and was amazed that I didn't really need any.
I did rest my foot and elevate it as much as possible. This helps the swelling to reduce and after 2 weeks I had to have the bandages changed and every 2 weeks after that. After 6 weeks the bandages came off altogether.
After 6 weeks I was able to drive again and go back to swimming. My job requires that I stand all day so i didn't start back to work until 7 weeks. Had I have had a job sitting down then it would have been much sooner.
I am now at 12 weeks after the op and having no problem at all. I have managed a 6 mile walk although I still have some swelling around the joint. I have been told that this will take up to 6 months to completely go. I would reccommend anyone to have the op. My surgeon Mr Rajan in Derby was fantastic. He has been spot on with everything that he has told me. So find a good surgeon and go for it!
