So I've been struggling with this ear-popping since January 2017 and it is super annoying! I suffer from Otosclerosis which means I suffer from hearing loss, which can be corrected through an operation. I've seen 3 ENT specialists and each one says something else:
ENT 1: I've got a deviated septum, a lot of mucus and but clear sinuses, but additional air pockets which can be removed by surgery. None of which seems related to my eustachian tube and this popping issue. He sent me for a full allergy test an everything came up negative. I was then given an Otovent Nasal Balloon which releases the pressure, but my ears pop back once I swallow.
ENT 2: She immediately asked me if I was using contraceptive and explained that it could be the Progesterone in the Pill that could be causing this. She also explained that she can perform an Eustachian tube Dilation surgical procedure, but it might no resolve the problem and the issue might persist.
ENT3: He stated that he can see nothing wrong with my Eustachian tube (as I've gone for an MRI recently to check out my sinuses and ears), he then provided me with a Salex Saline Sinus Rinse Kit, I've now used this for 2 days, but see no difference. He also stated that this popping might be a direct consequence of my otosclerosis.
GOOD LUCK! Hope we all find something that might help!!

I know this may sound weird but I experience the same exact thing you do
hey guys!
well, i struggled with getting mine diagnosed for ages. as a kid no one beleived me when i told them i had problems, and i could only describe my ear situation very recently. after countless gps thinking i had allergies, or blocked nose, or it was a symptom of a cold (regardless of the fact i told them i have always struggled with this issue) i finally was referred to the ENT.
he literally took one look up my nose with a camera-scope - thing, and told me he knew what the problem was.
for me anyway, its that my eustachian tube. its completely blocking the part of the ear where pressure is controlled, and basically told me that ive just become accustomed to it and have learnt to correct the pressure myself by holding my nose and breathing in, or vice versa. ive had it since i can remember, so i assume i was born with it.
He told me to get grommets! unfortunately certain things happened that got in the way of me getting these grommets put it at the time, but il be getting them very soon, trying to sort this f***ing annoying problem once and for all!
hopefully that info helps people. he didnt say the grommets would definitely fix the problem, but said that we would take further measures if they didnt.

It felt so good to know other people have this problem! I've had this for about 2 years and I'm now 14. I've been told to try nasal spray but its never worked. I went to an ENT and the doctor kinda thought It was funny as it was necessarily serious. He just told me it would take time. I hope someone finds something to help!
Hello,
I've had this problem since being a teenager and grommets are the solution. The grommet allows the air to pass through as nornal meaning your ears can't actually pop when they're in place.
As soon as the grommets fall out, the problem comes back again.
Hope you guys get it sorted as I know how mad it drives you! Hope this helps.

I have the same issues. Im 32 and now exploring it. I can no stand it anymore. The comments on here with people saying its normal do not understand at all. It's constant popping and sniffing and holding your nose and trying to hide it. I've read it might be tensor tempanic syndrome. Ive also read it could be an over active nerve for this muscle and a low amount of mageiusm could be the problem. Also wondering if anyone gets kind stones? I think this could be related to low mageiusm and pottasium issue. I'd like to explore more about our ear health histories and frustrations!!!!!
I've struggled with this my entire life (well as long as I can remember). I've had chronic ear infections since I was little and I think this triggered the constant popping. I am trying to find ways to improve or limit the sniffling I constantly have to do to be able to hear comfortably and if I find something that works for me, I would be happy to share with you all. It makes me feel good to know I'm not alone in this.
