I have had the same problem for about three months. I have been to the Dr. Four times. I have been treated with yeast meds for yeast and antibiotics for bacterial. I have no discharge. It burns when I urinate and ejaculate. I have been checked for all std's and all comes back normal.

I often suffered from vaginal yeast infections in my early twenties when I had a diet consisting of lots of starch, processed foods and sugars. Years later I had a constant burning sensation that would typically go away during my period and then return after I stopped bleeding. It hurt during sex, felt like burning and itching. I assumed it was recurrent yeast, but test after yest proved that it was not. Some of the doctors ended up telling me that "it was in my head", which was incredibly frustrating, insulting and unhelpful. Eventually I discovered "Cytolytic Vaginosis" through an amazing Nurse Practitioner at a Planned Parenthood. Overgrowth of Lactobacillus, the good bacteria, that produces lactic acid which literally burns the vaginal skin cells. I simply took a baking soda sitz bath and viola! Burning gone. (Lactobacillus thrive in acidic environments and baking soda will make the vaginal enviornment more basic to control the lactobacillus population.)I had to continue this one or twice a week for several weeks and it disappeared for a long time. If it ever comes back I just do a sitz bath with baking soda or a douche. (Be careful with douching and read about it if you choose to do it!) Also, if you don't have a bathtub a big plastic tub will work just fine, although you feel a bit silly sitting in it in the shower. LOL.

If you google "cytolytic vaginosis" there is a lot of information out there.

DO NOT drink cranberry juice if you have interstitial cystitis. For a bladder infection SURE, but people with this disorder should NEVER drink this juice. It will make matters worse.

Did anyone on here find out what it actually is or what helps it go away?

I wanted to share with everyone my experience. I too was having persistent vaginal burning, no discharge and no itching, ongoing for over 6 months. I saw my nurse midwife, who did a wet prep test and came back no yeast, no VB, etc. She told me to try vinegar baths, which did nothing. After no improvement, a few months later I went back and saw my GYN who this time took a sample of my discharge and viewed it under the microscope, came back and told me he didn't see anything abnormal, did the wet prep again which again said no yeast no VB. I came back and ended up crying in his office because no one could provide me with any solutions. After being tired of hearing me, he finally suggested I see a vulvar specialist, which I did. It was a several month waiting list to get in, but to help me that office let me see a nurse practitioner who works underneath the specialist. She took one look at my vagina and could see something was wrong. She took a sample of the my discharge and went to look at it under the microscope, came back 5 minutes later and told me it was yeast. Plain and simple, yeast. She said many GYN's don't understand that some people are overly sensitive to it, so they may see a few specs of yeast on a slide and assume it's normal, but for the patient it's agonizing. She also took a wet prep, and this time sent it away for 3 days instead of my previous doctor's 1 day, and it came back with confirming her findings, YEAST. She treated me with a higher does difflucan (200 mg.) and a 7-day vaginal cream, followed by an additional difflucan 7 days after my initial dose. Symptoms were gone within that week. I am so grateful for finding this woman who understood, and took the time to help me instead of just saying "there's nothing wrong." My advise to all of you dealing with this, is to find a doctor who is willing to get to the bottom of your problem. If you can find a vulvar specialist in your area, that would be the way to go. She has turned my life around!

All of the symptoms reported here sound like vulvodynia. Look it up. Lidocaine helps. A daily antihistamine helps. And if you are menopausal, estrogen cream helps.

you should definitely check out a specialist.
