I've just turned 18 years old, so I'm now considered a "young" adult. I've been on birth control for 3 years now, and have had two sexual partners. I'm a freshmen in college, and im in a very studious program. So i'm stressed all the time, but on top of the stress of the school work i'm dealing with these personal problems as well. I've been with my boyfriend for a year now and the sex has been great. Recently about a month ago i started to delevop some slight burning pain but it'd go away with a little time during intercourse. But with each time we'd have sex the burning pain would get worse and worse and now im to the point where i can't have sex with him at all. It doesn't hurt to wipe, or urinate, or to use a tampon or to be fingered, just during sex. The pain is so terrible and all i do is cry, it's taking away from my women hood and it's so depressing, I don't want this to change the rest of my life. All i keep thinking is it's not going to get better from here and what if i can't make love on my wedding night, or make love long enough to concive a child. (not that im in ANY hurry, but it's just thoughts that run through my mind) The burning pain feels like its on the bottom/lower side of my vagina, theres no itchyness or oder, or abnormal discharge. I'm just so scared..
If anyone has any tips or ideas, please help me out here! :'(

I have been suffering from exactly the same problem and i have read a lot of blogs on various websites. It was really getting me down but i was determined to get to the bottom of it as I was not going to let this come between me and my boyfriend. I couldnt understand why after all these years of having sex (i'm 34) that this has suddenly came out of nowhere and is seriously ruining my sex life and the closeness with my boyfriend. I found a couple of posts saying about acidophilus. This was about two weeks ago - I went to Holland and Barrett and got some and we have been having sex without a problem all weekend. I also made sure that I only shave around that area a couple of days before I see him. We have been using a little extra lube but not an awful lot. I can honestly say that at this moment in time I am pain free when this would seriously put me out for days even after 1 minute of sex before. I think the acidophilus has something to do with balancing the bacteria - it's good bacteria. It actually felt weird that I was pain free and it took a while to get my head round it - I was associating sex with pain - not a good thing. I am praying this is the way forward and things will be ok from now on.

Hi all,
I stumbled upon this thread after doing a bit of a google search. I wonder if the problem is Candida. Essentially this is an overgrowth of yeast in your body and can cause all sorts of problems - one being painful sex.
I've suffered terrible painful sex for the past couple of years (been with bf 5 years) and couldn't understand why it was happening. It seemed to be getting worse as well. It was a pain inside, and felt like burning/inflammed sensation, and carried on hurting for a while after sex. I first thought it was caused by spermicides, then latex, but without using them, it still hurt. Doctors were c**p and told me it was all in my head. I've also had problems with my gut- bloating, diarrea, etc. This was also getting worse and I was becoming intolerant to more and more foods. I went to see a nutritionist who advised that it could be Candida - an overgrowth of yeast. The way I understand it is that this yeast is naturally in everyone's body, but can become a problem when there's too much of it - and it can get into your blood stream and cause problems. Often it happens after a bout of food poisoning or something which upsets the gut bacteria balance - and allows the bad bacteria to overgrow. The nutritionist recommended the Candida diet - essentially no yeast, sugars etc that can help the yeast infection grow. As well as pro-biotics. Often people will take anti-biotics, but then no pro-biotics, so they don't rebalance their gut bacteria.
I hope I'm making sense and not waffling too much - there's just so much information to say! I'm on the Candida diet now, alongside pro-biotics, and I'm hoping that once I've managed to re-balance my gut and get rid of all the yeast, that the pain will start going away.

It definitely sounds like candida ladies - look at candida cleanses where you flush out this fungus, then go on a diet along with TONS of probiotics. It is a VERY persistent fungus fed by western foods/lifestyle/antibiotics/birth control and our acidic diet. cleansing it will change your life!!!

by the way: some treat "candida" like it means yeast infection but it doesnt. Candida is deep within your system, using your intestines as a breeding ground and

Hi Newbie, I'm reading this post of yours from 4 years ago on January 8,2013. How are you doing with the Lichen Sclerosus Et Atrophicus? Are you actually free of it with the steroid cream? I'd be interested to know. Blessings,

Hi, I haven't read all 15 pages of entries you all have written over the last 6 years. But..one thing I haven't seen in the entries is the partner having the burning as well. My husband of 20 years and boyfriend for the12years before that has the burning when he enters me. So we burn together. And he burns during ejaculation. How Sweeeet!!!!! and this has just started in the last 4 months.
I thought maybe its that we haven't had intercourse for the last 2 plus years until lately -separated and now trying to reconcile. Maybe that we're older- 60 and 70. I do know that he and I both have many of the symptoms of the Candida: the bloating, I have asthma more often especially after eating. My diet is full of NO NOs: sugar, mushrooms, wheat, yeastie things just to mention a few. They always sound so good and even sometimes taste so good. Then reality hits and I blow up like a balloon and I have trouble breathing and feel lethargic . Blah Blah Blah
the past 4 years I have had problems when seasons change. First, problems with Poison ivy each summer and fall for 2 years. Another time I inhaled a piece of rice down into my trachia. Bottom line each of these episodes went into a "cold" and into bronchitis and then pneumonia that required antibiotic and Prednisone to clear up.
Years ago I was told I had candida. But if our burning which only occurs with penetration, is Candida related, why are we only experiencing this now after 32 years. We've been monogamous. Neither of us has tested for stds, yeast infections, I don't know
Don't know if any of this history will show any links that may help shed light on our common dilemma:
I started on the pill at 19 when I became sexually active. And stopped when I was 25 for my first pregnancy.
I was diagnosed with PMS in my late teens. The doctors tried all kinds of drugs to help with the symptoms. Then endometriosis was diagnosed in my late 20s and a laparoscopy at 30.
I had no period from 22 til I was 27. Some of that time I was on the pill. The last 3-4 years I was pregnant then nursing the baby
and weaning her. My pregnancy was the healthiest time of my life. No symptoms of PMS or endometriosis. Yahool
Umm...I'm sure if I was in conversation with someone it might help me remember other tidbits of info. but I'm sure by now you're bored with the "ravings of an old lady"
Will try the candida flush again, get back on my probiotics, try and curb my yeast feeding. I have herbalist friends nearby that may have more helpful ideas to round out my to plan get back our enjoyment in our love life. Will keep checking in on this site.
Just before I'm posting this I see Newbie's from 4 years ago. Just chance pick out of 15 pages and so many common postings.
Hope to hear from you Newbie and will check out Lichen Sclerosus Et Atrophicus on the internet and with a dermatologist.
Just a thought... I wonder if Prednisone tabs work also.

thanks for sharing your story Murlit. I have heard of candida going into "latent" mode and flaring up when it is fed by various factors. Also it can really grow over time so having no problems for so long, staying monogamous and then seeing it flare up can happen with candida. In addition to probiotics and avoiding trigger foods, I would recommend anti-fungals: fluconazole if you can get prescription from your doctor or the ones mentioned on

like oregano oil pills they are strong!
I am in my 20s and couldnt even come close to enjoying sex for so long: almost zero libido and a stinging feeling anytime we tried. When I did the intensive treatment on my own: cleansing, dieting, probiotics and antifungals within 10 days my long lost libido came back! my boyfriend saw one of the probiotics boxes (which had "anti-diarrhea" medication written on it as they write on many probiotics in france) and he was like wow so anti-diarrhea medication works as an aphrodisiac for you? haha he was so confused but happy :) Anyways, best of luck getting back on track!

Hi,
I left a post about 3 weeks ago referring to the acidophilus. I was pain free until last weekend but I'm thinking it was all the eating and drinking over the xmas period. I had stopped drinking for 4.5 weeks on the run up to xmas and then at xmas and new year year I was drinking a lot of champagne and wine and now I've had a flare up. I was also eating a lot of cheese and chocolate too which I dont normally eat so I would say the candida diet or finding what things can trigger it can help.
My friend who has a similar problem went round the houses for months on end at the GUM clinic saying it was thrush but eventually ended up seeing a specialist who has prescribed her Betnovate ointment. I have also tried this and I have been applying this when I have a flare up and this has also helped. I havent been drinking since new year, am being quite good on my diet, wearing cotton undies, using moist toilet tissue, using the betnovate and still taking the acidophilus and I'm back on track and pain free again - I think diet is a major thing to look at here.
