I got the cortisone shot in my lower back October 2015. Periods soon became unpredictable and very long. 3 weeks of bleeding at a time with maybe only 2 weeks in between periods. I also felt very bloated and premenstral all the time. I thought that maybe I had cancer and consulted several doctors. (None of them thought there was a connection between the shot and my bleeding!) Very scary time but tests came back normal.
For me this lasted for 6 months. My periods now seem to be going back to normal. Sadly, the shot has been the only thing which helped my pain but I don't know if I want to go through that again.

I also had the same problem with Kenalog. I had the shot on 1/21/16 for a mild case of alopecia areata. My dermatologist did warm me that I could have menstrual irregularities since I am not on birth control. I didn't think much about it, but boy do I regret it. My period started on 1/24/16 and didn't stop until 3/7/16. it was such a miserable time for me. I was having heavy bleeding, constant cramps, and always anxious. I started getting headaches daily, which my pcp thinks was bc I kept taking pain killers. My gyn also did a pap and sono to rule out other things, even though I knew for certain it was the kenalog, and those were fine. Iron was on the low end of normal. I don't know when exactly my period will go back to normal 5 day cycle. I got it again 3/24 and I am praying it won't last as long again. It's not clear to me when people's cycles began to regulate. I will never, ever take this stupid drug again. It caused me more problems than I had before.

Wow! Thanks you guys for sharing. I have been in menopause for abou 15 years. I had a cortisone shot in my knee a week ago. I started a light spotting 3 days ago. Left numerous messages for my GYN to call me but no luck. Called the emergency room...they said to see my GYN :( Decided to see if Cortisone affects the period and much to my surprse and relief, it does. The shot was the only thing different -- my fist thought was cancer! I will follow-up with my doctor, but it is the weekend and now I'll just buy more pads and rest! What a relief!!! Odd thing is, I only have 1/2 of an ovary and it is producing a period like you would not believe!

I just had my first (and last) cortisone shot for Tendonitis in my wrist this past April and was 6 days late with my menstrual cycle. Now I've had it for 8 days straight with no signs of stopping. I called my GYN and still waiting for a callback. In the meantime, I was searching to see what could have caused this and stumbled upon all these comments. So grateful that I found this site because I was literally diagnosing myself as being on my death bed. I'm sure many of you can relate, especially when you start plugging in your symptoms on webmd. This is so annoying and I'm frustrated that the orthopedist did not care to share this information as being one of the effects. I would've just dealt with the wrist pain. Hoping to feel some relief soon!

Same here! I can't seem to get straight answer from anyone ! I was on day 2 of period, received steroid shots in neck and day 7 my period liked stopped and day 10 started again going on 20 days . I just had my yearly pap before steroid shots and it was all ok! I wish to see if this is Happening to others?

Day 24 and I'm still bleeding. I've had 2 ultrasounds, an endometrial biopsy, more blood work and a prescription for progesterone. Everything is coming back normal and the doctor keeps saying that she speculates I'm going through pre-menopause. I've always had a regular period and no issues up until I got my cortisone shot last month. I just don't see how the 2 are correlated but what else can it be?

I am on steriod injections for more than a year. It is to treat my keloid and guess what i bleed all the time. Its not heavy bleeding, it is spotting and when i bleed priperly than i guess it is my period which stays till 9days. I am planing to see a doctor as its been two mnths that my bleeding is not stopping. I dont want stop my injections becausw i want to get rid of the keloid ans i dont know how a doctor may help. I find the situation hopeless. My first doctor taught the period irregularity is due to stress.lol! Im glad to know it is normal.as other women are facing the same things.

Had a facet injection in June right after the end of my cycle and have spotted a few days (maybe 5 days with light spotting) in total since then...have been TTC as well though, haven't had a period yet. 3 PG tests all came back negative so far.

I am experiencing the exact same thing as you. My cortisone injection was over 2 months ago. I know this post is old. Just wondering when your periods got back to normal??

I got a cortisone shot less than 2 hours ago and got home to see I started bleeding. Heavily. My period ended a week ago. I'm pissed but so glad to see that other women had this happen too.

I'm so happy to find this thread! I've made an appointment with ob but that isn't for two more months!! I started getting cortisone injections 8 mths ago and my periods were fine the first 2 mths then really light the 3rd. Three weeks late the 4th then heavy and lasted 14days had maybe 5days without before starting again the 5th mth. The last three have been almost constant sometimes light then very heavy. I have had 3or 4 days with no bleeding each month but have to wear a pad anyway because I never know when it will start again. I do get cramps but not the whole month, thank goodness! I'm freaking out because when I asked the doctor he said it shouldn't happen and to make an appt with my ob. I was thinking the worst when I found this site. I'm not alone and yes this does happen when getting cortisone injections!

I got Kenalog injections along with another med for chest wall inflammation on 12/13. I was 6 days late for my period....that came on 12/26. Since then I have been on and experiencing spotting or periods of heavier bleeding, I went to my OBGYN on day 10 of bleeding and they said it's from the shots. They did a pap which returned normal, as well as an ultrasound which I am awaiting the results. It is now 1/16 and today I have been bleeding and cramping so bad that I need overnight pads like my normal period! Sorry for the long post but I am so upset and over this! The shots didn't even help!! I am asking my MD to give me something to stop the bleeding, but on another note I don't want to take anymore mess that will mess us my cycle!!!!!

Bless you all ladies for this site! I thought I was having cancer! My two children are under four! OMG! These cortisone shots must come with very clear warnings about the effects, otherwise the psychological damage far outweighs any positive impact from them. I am due for a scan for cancerous cells in February. Anyone can imagine what that is doing to my wellbeing or my family's. It's preposterous that health professionals don't know or warn patients about such powerful effects from a drug.

All the best to you all, and may we all remain in good health.
