I have been on Warfarin since Dec. I have gained almost 15lbs. Admittedly I don't workout as hard as I did before my clotting but I am an Ultramarathoner and Ironman so my body is on pretty good shape. FRUSTRATING!

I have noticed that when my PT/IRN numbers are high, I will put on 5 pounds that I cannot take back off - - this has happened four times over the past 6 months. And as with all of you, my doctor says there is no connections - - - they are wrong!! Trying a new diet starting next week - will let everyone know the results

Thank you LMW1216 makes me feel better knowing I'm not doing anything wrong. I've been on warfarin for seven years (after having both lungs filled with clots for a second time, they decided I'll be on blood thinners for life) in that time I've gained so much weight I'd say around 70lbs I'm so depressed about it. I've tried very hard to lose weight!!! I used to be so full of energy now I feel so lazy. I feel bad for my seven year old, he's never seen the let's run and play side of me.. I hate it so much... I need change so bad!!!

Hi there :) just wondering how you are doing with your weight loss after being off Coumadin. I am still on it and have gained 60 lbs in a year while eating right and increasing exercise.. I told my doctor and he said eat a lower calorie diet then you expend and you will lose weight... Well I've been doing that for 5-6 months and keep gaining... No thyroid problem.

I am so glad that I found this blog/post! I've been on Coumadin/warfarin for 12 years now. Diagnosed with Protein S Deficiency. I experienced significant weight gain and definitely the fatigue. I first thought it was due to dropping some activities due to being on the meds. I take 12 mg a day because I eat so many greens. I run every other day, watch what I eat and it takes herculean efforts to lose a couple pounds. People are surprised when they find out how active I am because my body doesn't look like it. Dr's say it's because of my age / stage of life that it's difficult to lose. What do they know?

I've been on Coumadin for 5 months and I, too, have gained 10 pounds and my hair is thinning out. I plan to see my doctor this week to share my concerns.

I was on Coumadin for 8 months for afib. I gained 15 lbs & it took 6 months yes 6 months to lose the weight! ALL anticoagulants cause weight gain!! Recently I was put on xerrlto for a short period of time & same thing happened but after stopping it for 2 weeks & immediately starting cardio & saunas I noticed I was beginning to look & feel like myself again so that's a good thing. Speaking from experience I recommend lots of cardio as well as saunas or steam rooms 10 minutes a day if u have access to them in your gym. The combo helped me with losing the water weight.

Yes it Is Very True, Every Dr has also said there is no link to weight gain. I have been on Warfarin since 2008 and have noticed fatigue as well as weight gain. I can say I do eat well and exercise. Lets face it, weight gain or another DVT ..... I have had two, both very large clots in both legs. Happy to be here to tell all that we are lucky

Tell me about it - I had an AVR last October and have gained 2st since then on a very high dose of Warfarin (8mg!) but my doctors advice was to eat off of a smaller plate! I go to the gym four times a week, live on steamed fish/chicken and veg and salad!... not impressed :-(

Three months into my life long commitment and, despite being told there is no weight gain, there is absolutely a bloat to my midsection.

What if we all report the mfr-- if generic, I sit thesane lab; what dose?
Reply
Yes. Let's trace the labs/mfr and see if we are all receiving Rx from the same lab.

I have been on warfrin for over 10 years, i have put on 60 + lbs, 294 when started now 363. I was taken off by an oncologist who specializes in genetic disorders, i lost 20 lbs, had to go back on as i developed another clot. NONE of my regular Dr. listened to me until this. As of now, the answer is " they have no clue how to offset it" I take in 2000 cal. per day and still barely hold my weight.
