It is surprising how common yeast is in our bodies if they are not properly balanced. What I mean by this, the balance between good bacteria and yeast, which should be 80% bacteria and 20% yeast. The first time you took an antibiotic in your life, which was probably at a young age, you started the long road to a downward spiral of bad health and unexplainable symptoms in your body. I first discovered the magnitude of yeast after having my little boy. While I was pregnant, I experienced a case of mastitis, and shortly after curing that with antibiotics, I got pneumonia. I took even more antibiotics for that. Altogether, I was on antibiotics for about four weeks. This obviously depleted my body of any good bacteria that my body needs to fight off yeast. When my son came, I nursed him. I had never felt anything more painful in my life. It felt like he was sucking razor blades through my nipples. My doctor told me it was thrush. He prescribed me diflucan, but instead of the handy one pill that would cure a vaginal yeast infection, he gave me sixteen and told me I had to take two pills the first day then one pill everyday for fourteen days. I did this. It seemed to get better, but the next thing you know, Severe pain while nursing. The thrush had come back even worse. I took the medicine again. It helped for a couple days, then it came back again. I was miserable beyond belief. the medication was not working. Eventually, it went away on its own. Or did it? No it went deep inside my body causing me all kinds of issues. Symptoms: dizziness, disabling fatigue, sugar cravings that had me eating a jar of cake icing, nausea, heartburn, acne ( at the age of 25), dry skin, inability to focus, depression, severe anxiety, the list goes on and on. One symptom was the reoccurring yeast that caused the cracked raw skin on the tender skin of my p***y. I feel like I am fighting a battle I cannot win. Unfortunately for everyone else, 8 out of 10. This means if you know ten people eight of them have this problem. Seriously! It all starts the first time you take antibiotics. The kicker is, that twenty years from the first time you take antibiotics is when you actually see the damaging effects of that first dose. That's right. The symptoms of this disabling imbalance do not even begin for decades after the damage has been done. This imbalance of yeast and bacteria in our bodies is life threatening. All those autoimmune diseases out there, like lupus, arthritis of any kind, fibromyalgia, are all caused from this imbalance. Of course your doctor isn't going to tell you this because they did not learn about it in medical school. They only learn how to treat symptoms, not prevent and cure. If doctors actually acknowledge this issue it would destroy the business of medicine. If they prevented this from happening they could not make money off of the endless supply of medication that is demanded by the patients who will do almost anything for relief of these issues. Fortunately if you are healthy, and you only show a few signs of these issues, you can start taking mega doses of probiotics to regain the normal balance in your body. By mega I mean billions of cfus of probiotics, and not the ones you find at the supermarket. You can find them in the vitamin store. They are expensive, but it is the only cure to rebalance your body. Unless, you are a super human who can go on an all greens diet until the yeast in your body die off, which takes several months. Those who have been diagnosed with an autoimmune disease, I'm sorry, you can rebalance your body the same way, but he damage has already been done.

Sounds like you do not actually suffer from this....I eat an all natural vegan diet and that is definitely not the solution.

Had this problem often years ago when I was still having periods and was sexually active. Haven't had it since though. I do believe it is some type of yeast infection which yes they can affect the exterior areas around the vagina as well. Don't think it is anything to worry about, just annoying. Check with doctor first just to be sure, then find what works for you (monistat worked for me) and use as needed. Good luck

My only symptom was a tear in the skin outside of the labia. I noticed some blood on my underwear but it was not vaginal. With mirror I saw a fissure about 2-3 inches long. It looked like the skin had simply pulled apart like tissue paper and it was bloody. My OBG prescribed Premarin cream (estrogen). I hated this because I swore I would never use this product because of how the poor horses are treated to obtain the hormone. Anyway, I used it because this situation was kind of scary. After about a week the fissure was completely gone. I stopped using the cream because it was making me really nauseous. I also cancelled my 3 month followup appt. My OBG had asked me if I had recently had a yeast infection, did it occur after sex, had I been constipated and had I ever had herpes. These questions indicated that he did not know what was causing it but that these things could cause it. One other topic we discussed was post menopausal decrease in collagen causing skin all over the body to become thin and less elastic. I have noticed this in my face, lips and hands. I was just happy that it had gone away. A month and a half later it has happened again in the same spot. I used the cream and it is already better after two days. I hate this cream and really believe that the collagen thing is to blame and the slightest irritation can cause the skin to split open. I intend to use petroleum jelly to moisturize the area daily. I will stop using bath beads and use only Dove soap for bathing. Hope this helps.

I have the same problem as you ladies, this is the first time I have had it. I wonder how many of you are going through or been through the menopause. I started my menopause a couple of years ago and have increasingly noticed that my skin everywhere is drying out and this seems to be a progression of other smaller skin complaints which have developed.

Hi. After reading the board I tried a feqw things to see what I could determine helped me est. My immune syste is suppressed due to medication. My doctor says this IS a fungal infection similar to yeast, thrush, and athlete's foot.
Two rounds of Monistat (1 dose version and three dose) had not worked when I went to the doctor. He prescribed Diflucan once every other day for three doses. I wear skirts as much as possible and without underwear when at home. I never keep my sweaty workout or work clothes on. I wash that area with Cetaphil only to help keep a balance of good bacteria to kill funguses.
So far so good. I hope this info can help someone else.
