Had the exact same thing. Finally went to E.R. and demanded they do somthing. Got All kinds of test because liver enzymes were through the roof. Found Bile abstruction. Dr performed a procedure and repaired it. Pain was gone and back to normal. One note: Doc said this happens quite a lot after gall bladder surgery. GOOD LUCK
I just got mine removed and have been in horrible pain. I also got cold sores, have been constipated, sore throat, etc. The pain in my belly is everywhere but especially bad in the upper right quadrant. I can't lay down or sit up without concentrated effort to not hurt myself. I also cannot lay on my side. This is hell!!! I feel for everybody out there and I wish we all would have read about this before saying yes to surgery :'(
:'( yes i just got my gallbladder removed 2 days ago and what i am feeling is a lot of pain in my right side and out of no where i am getting sore throat and have some flame that wants to come out but when i cough my stomach hurts like hell!!! when i try to get up, i can feel the pain on my right side...i am taking vicadin for the pain but all its doing is making me sleepy but i still feel the pain...i also feel pain on my leftside too...when i breath it really hurts, i can only take small breaths so it wont hurt as much and i also here myself squel when i breath. i wonder if anyone else is on the same path as me...i havnt went to the bathroom yet as far as taking number 2 but i have been taking number 1 cause of all the fluids i been taking and i been eating lots of soup... i also get back pains. so now that are gallbladder is gone what happens to our body??
I have had my Gallbladder out for about 3 weeks or so. I got it out the 17th of July. They say mine was from being pregnant. The high estrogen levels. The recovery was horrible!!! I had a 6 week old baby and I was nursing. I also had a lot of Flem in my throat and chest. The best thing to do is walk and take in deep breaths even though it hurts. When that stuff gets out of there you will feel a lot better!!! I went in to the hospital one Tuesday, got the surgery on Wednesday and went home Thursday. Friday I started keeping my son on the couch with me. I slept on the couch on my left side with a bunch of pillows stacked up for about two weeks. That help a lot since it pulled on my incisions to lay flat. Saturday I went to the circus (it was my daughters birthday) By the end I was really tired and a little sore, but I have to say with out a doubt I felt much better the next day and all the Flem was gone!! They were worried about more blockage when I was in the hospital. I had blockage in my liver and bile duct. The stones had passed right before surgery, but they still weren't for sure. I went and got my liver enzymes tested they were down but still elevated. Plus after I ate fried foods my side hurt. So I ended up having to get an endoscopy and everything was normal. I do have occasional pain still. I have only had diarrhea two times. I ate fried fatty foods. I do not eat fatty fried foods any more!!! When I went into surgery I was already back to my pre pregnancy weight, now I am 15 pounds below that!!!! It is awesome and I feel a lot healthier!! 120 pounds now!! It was a wake up call getting my gallbladder out I take a lot better care of myself now.
I had my gallbladder removed in Sept 2007. On July 4th 2008 I started having the same pain again. I went to the doctor and they told me to quit eating fatty foods and that I had acid reflux! I knew my body and that was not true. After a month, three different doctors, missed work days and 15lbs weight loss I found out through an ERCP that I had a gall stone stuck in my bile duct and it finally closed it off and started to shut down my liver. The stone was removed and I feel great! Once a doctor finally listened it was an easy fix!
I have been having the same problem for some time. I had gallbladder out after a horrible hysterectomy and then got a case of acute pancritits that when I went to ER they sent me home because they did not see any problem and It was as if I could drive myself there there must not be anything wrong. an hour after I got home a policeman came to my door and asked me to return to hospital that they had labs to discuss with me. My levels were 25,000 and 15,000 which were suppose to be 250 and 100. They ended up removing my gallbalder and said that they did not find stones they just found some sludge. I have had problems off and on since then, but in May of this year started experiencing the extreme pain in right side and I thought was pancrititis and went to ER thought truly did not want to because of past problems with them. They told me I was constipated and sent me home. I started running a fever that evening of over 103 and went on for several days until I started taking a antibiotic that I had a refill on. This pain is constant but becomes so severe that you wish someone would just put you out of your misery. I have had colonoscopy, endiscope ultasound and that showed my pancrias ok and liver good. I had small bowel series and my body dumped so fast that they were in shock. thought they saw a blockage and that the upper colon not filling so they did an upper gi and they did not see anything two days later. A knot has come up where the pain is and I bloat like crazy and still waiting to swallow a camera. I had another extreme pain attack on Labor day and now feeling horrible and have a fever. I think I have a tumor or something that keeps feeling up with fluid and rupturing and then it leaks out I get sick and have to have antibiotic and then we start the whole process again. I am scared because we have been at this for almost 4 months now and nothing has come of it. It feels as if the knot is getting bigger and think of cancer. I have messed with Dr for the last three years and understand the friends thing and making you think you are faking it. I am from a small town and the Dr that did the Hysto ended up cutting bladder and intestines and left ovary in. That year I was in hospital 7 times from all of this and I am as tired as you. The one Dr I thought I could trust tells me no wonder you are dying because of me picking up my daughter that weighs 65 pounds. One dr at hospital told me not to let the door hit me in butt on my way out. And this is what we pay for to see what is wrong. We know our bodies better than anyone and we have the right to ask questions and it seems like we have to do the investigating to tell the Dr what we think is wrong. I am very unhappy and have two children to take care of. I do not have time for any of this.
I had my GB out in March of 2008. I guess I am somewhat different bc my doctor is amazing and did inform me of all the risks of the surgery. But I do have some advice:
For the people who are within 3 weeks post op, it is completely normal to have pain (even somewhat severe pain) and to be tired. I know it is disheartening bc I went through it too, but know that this is the way it works. Abdominal surgery is difficult to recover from. Also, some of the pain may be caused by the carbon dioxide that they shoot into your stomach cavity (in laparoscopic surgeries). Honestly, I had more pain from this than the incisions. Even months after surgery, you can be fatigued and in some pain. My doctor told me that I'm not allowed to lift anything substantially heavy or play any physical sports for at least a year.
For the people who had surgery years ago, this is what I found helps:
Eating six small meals a day instead of three large meals
Eating very low fat
Eating high fiber to keep your bowels moving (constipation can cause extreme pain)
If you are lactose intolerant or intolerant to any other foods, avoid them, even if you were able to tolerate them in small doses before the surgery.
Get a test done for food allergies
Getting you liver functions tested. This is very important bc when you have your gallbladder removed, more stress and responsibility is put on your liver, especially if you dont eat properly.
Keep searching for a doctor who believs you (even though this is frustrating, it is very rewarding in the end)
A note about questran: it is a great medicine. really helps prevent diarrhea. BUT, please please please brush your teeth after you take it. it can break down your teeth if it is left to sit.
So now, a little about me. I am studying to become a registered dietitian so I have a good deal of nutrition/medical background. A few years ago, I had severe stomach problems and the drs though I had Crohns disease. After months and months of testing, they found that I DONT have Crohns disease. I was diagnosed with IBS (but my diagnosis was actually accurate...I know doctors just tell you think when they cant figure out whats really going on). As a result of the stomach problems, I lost 60 lbs very quickly, which caused my gallstones. After multiple gallbladder attacks, I had my gallbladder removed. My recovery was very good. Minimal pain, scars healed quickly, tired for a few weeks but this was normal. I was back to my normal routine in about 5 days. Since the surgery, I have experienced some pain underneath my right rib. The pain is not persistent. It comes and goes. Worse when I eat fatty foods or anything fried. I also have a hiatal hernia and GERD, so this also contributes to the pain/discomfort. Since the surgery, we have pretty much figured out that my IBS is caused by anxiety. In answer to the person who asked if burning/tingling of the fingers and hands can be a result of anxiety, the answer is yes. Pretty much anything can be caused by anxiety. I would say my general experience with the surgery seems to be on the more positive side. I sympathize bc I know what its like to experience the pain, and respect you all a lot for dealing with this pain all the time.
Good luck to all!

I had my gallbladder removed going on 5 weeks on Monday... It was August 11th that I had it removed. I'm 19 years old, weigh 118lbs and i'm 5'3... So i'm your typical 19 year old girl. Anyways.. below is from my blog that I wrote, so you can read about what I went though.. and afterwards I will tell you what is happening now..
***August 9th*** I had pretty much the worst week ever. All last week I had this terrible pain in my sternum and like dead center of my chest. I couldn't figure out what it was but waited a few days. It got to the point I needed to have it checked. I hate doctors so dad drove up and took me to the Emergency room in Americus on thursday. Well they drew blood, gave me and IV and some nausea medication. I got really dizzy and felt really sick when they missed my vein and I bled all over the floor. The nurse got nervous because I was losing alot more blood than usual. Well they found out that:
-billie rueben was up.
-liver enzymes were up.
-white blood count was up.
-blood pressure was up.
-fever was up.
-heart rate was up.
So they sent me home after getting more liquid because I was dehydrated and said that I had gastroenteritis. I obviously knew I did not have that and all the nurses at the hospital said I didn't have it. They thought that it was either my gallbladder or pancreas.
Friday morning dad left and my boss came to check on me. I had a fever of 101 and still couldn't keep anything down yet the pain was worse. She took me to the hospital in Montezuma and after waiting for an hour. They gave me a shot of toridol for the pain and then set up an appointment for an ultrasound for monday. He thought it was my gallbladder or that I strained a rib. After I got back to the Park my other boss picked me up for the weekend and I stayed with her. She gave me some Ambien and because i've never had it before, she didn't tell me that soon all the furniture in the house would be turning into transformers. I went to bed and slept for about 13 hours after that.
Saturday morning I was feeling a little bit better so Kim asked if I wanted to go to the movies in Columbus, about an hour and a half away. So we drove and did some shopping before going to the movies. We went to go see Dark Knight because none of us had seen it and halfway through the movie, I got really sick. The pain was so intense that I was about 2 minutes from passing out. Brent got the car and drove me and Kim to Doctors Hospital in Columbus. This was literally the WORST pain I have ever felt. We sat down and I was in so much pain that other people waiting in the ER told the nurses to let me be seen before them. Well nothing was being done so now we move onto hospital number four. NEVER GO TO DOCTORS HOSPITAL..
Kim drove about a block away from the hospital and called 911. They came and picked me up in the ambulance. He tried starting an IV on me but he said that my veins were too close to the skin and he blew one of them. So they got me to St. Francis Hospital (about 10 miles from the 3rd hospital) and they first gave me some nice drugs. I can't remember anything that happened that evening but I know the pain went away and then my parents and boss said that I was stoned for the rest of the evening.
They did a CT scan of my chest and stomach and a few things happened...
-Inflammed gallbladder
-Inflammed stomach
-Inflammed lymph nodes
-Gallbladder "Sludge"
-Cysts on my ovaries
-Fluid in my abdomen from ruptured cysts
-and a nice disease called "mesenteric adenitis"
Finally they admitted me to my room after all the tests and blood drawn and all that jazz around 5:30am on Sunday. On Sunday the doctors all came in to do some more tests and one of the doctors wanted to do an endoscopy because of my stomach being inflammed. So they gave me some demoral and then sent me to the room to do the endoscopy. They put all the oxygen and stuff on me and then put me to sleep. I don't remember what happened during or after but I know the back of my throat was all cut up from the tubes and then the doctor took some biopsy's of my stomach which he sent to the labs. So they sent me back to my room and ordered an ultrasound and a hydascan for monday morning.
Monday morning I went down to the ultrasound and they did that. There were no gallstones but my gallbladder was in really bad condition. So before they were getting me ready for the hydascan, the surgeon came up to me and my dad and said that my gallbladder needs to come out that day and set up the surgery for around 3:00pm or so.. I went back to my room and they gave me some more demoral and pain meds and I fell asleep.
Next thing I know I am being woken up and they moved me to another bed and then put me on oxygen because my stats were low. We waited in pre-op for a few minutes before they had me sign all the paperwork and such and then they took me back. The last thing I remember was the doctor asking me a question and I said something like i'm moving to georgia and he just laughed and that was it.. They took out my gallbladder and then looked at all my other organs why they were in there. They said that my gallbladder had a bubble in it where it was just moments from rupturing and that I had grit and sludge backing up into my pancreas and liver.
I don't know what time it was but I woke up and I like couldn't talk or anything and just felt really weird but then the pain started.. So I started crying and the dang nurse was so rude. She was like you should have said something because I just threw the rest of it away. So they gave me some more pills and took me back to my room. Of course they had to put me on the bed because I couldn't move so that hurt just as bad.
So they kept me over night for two more nights and then I went to the park to stay the night before my parents drove me back to south carolina. I got so sick that night it was unreal. Anything and everything that was in me (which wasn't very much) came up and I couldn't keep anything down. By far the worst night ever. Then we drove home the next day after I was feeling a little bit better but that was the worst drive EVER. After every bump it hurt so bad... None the less after the whole experience i was on diloted (however you spell it) so much that i was going through detox all night long because i have about 25 shots of diloted.
Finally I made it home and was in bed for about a week and a half before the pain was tolerable. I had to go to the doctor yesterday because I now have pneumonia from the surgery. So i'm back on antibiotics and it is not as bad as it could be but the cough syrup makes me really sick...
***************************************
Okay so I made it through the pneumonia, after taking cough syrup, antibiotics, etc.. I ended up coming down with thrush. I have bad bumps all over the back of my mouth and tongue and it has been gone for about a week now but the bumps still hurt and my wisdom teeth are coming in at the same time..
i have 4 cuts across my adbdomen.. one in my belly button, two directly about that and one on my right side on my rib..
now i am finally about to walk around by myself and get dressed and what not but here are my problems now:
-i am constantly using the bathroom about 15 minutes after every meal.. pretty much liquid..
-i have a pain in my lower back on both sides but for the past week it has been real bad on my right side..
-pain under my bellybutton where the first cut was..
-constantly bloated..
-bad pain for the past week in my stomach.. just sitting there and its beginning to hurt really bad..
i'm not sure what to do.. but it seems like anything and everything could go wrong.. blah..

I also have pain a year after GB surgery. Have not gone to the doctor yet, am so unhappy about it, thought all would be fine once the GB was gone.
Mine started at 13 months. I get the burning up under the rib on the right, just like the GB is still there. I never had stones, just sludge, so hoping it's not a stone stuck in the duct.
My pain isn't severe, but annoying. I feel like low grade fever at times, but don't have a fever & I chill when I feel the burning, just like I did when I had the GB!
I hate doctors & tests, so guess I'll wait, if it gets really bad, then I will go.
Someone mentioned "bile obstruction" and wondering how severe the pain was with that, if you could answer.
Thanks for listening, "disgusted HERE"!!!

I thought I was the only one suffering from this and that it was all in my head! I had my GB removed on 19th October last year. I had a c-section then 2 weeks later had an attack of Acute Pancreatitis due to a sonte being stuck so they whipped out my gall bladder. Pain was bad but not as bad as the pancreatitis. I went to the doc a couple of months afterwards complaining of pain where my GB used to be. He said it was normal and by 3 months it should be gone.
Now it is more frequent and occurs mostly when I am being active. Bending down a lot or carrying my baby around, running around cleaning the house, anything really and it really stops me in my tracks. I have lots of other similar symtoms that other people have mentioned here and I honestly believe that if I go back to the docs he will say blah, blah, blah and that basically I should just live with it. I was also diagnosed with Post Natal Depression at the end of Feburary, so with all the surgeries I have had in the past year I am so sick fed up of dealing with the medical profession and having people look at me like I am nuts or something. Also the understanding wears thing from your friends and family because it seems to be the same thing over and over.
If anyone has the answer I'd gladly welcome your views!

I just had my gallbladder removed September 19, 2008 and have to now eat at least 4 to 6 times a day. While the meals are much smaller I still find myself running to the bathroom to avoid embarrassment. The bad thing for me is that I work in a busy office and since my return I am afraid to eat at work in fear that I will have to run to the bathroom and hibernate. I also have a burning feeling in my chest most of the time after I have eaten and pain in my right side if I have been too active. Not to mention one side of my belly button has no feeling, which I will have to live with for the rest of my life. (I am so happy about that) Will this ever end?
I thought that after the surgery I would be feeling so much better. Especially, since it took them 2 1/2 months to figure out that my gallbladder was not functioning. The doctors actually took out my appendix thinking that was the problem, which it wasn't so not only did I deal with the pain from my gallbladder but the pain from having surgery. I lost 30 pounds before the surgery, was subjected to a multitude of tests, which told them absolutely nothing. They finally pinpointed the problem and took out my gallbladder. The doctor said that my gallbladder had slowly stopped functioning and created lesions around it so that it was stuck in one position and not free to move when I did, which created more pain.
Before the surgery I was doubling over in pain, had constipation, integestion, nausea, and vomiting. Most of the time I could not even keep food or water down. I was miserable and found no relief whatsoever. Now I suffer from diarrea, burning in my chest, occasional vomiting in the morning (always the yellow bile), and pain in my right side with too much activity. Can anyone help me? I don't want to live this way forever. I just want my life back.

I just completed an ERCP and it has been one year since i have had a gallbladder...I have been in and out of the ER so i was sent to have this done to rule out stones in the duct...well it didnt rule it out it found them and also I have been informed that I STILL have a GALLBLADDER! >;) Any thoughts on this?!?!?! I guess i shouldnt trust doctors.
I had laparoscopic gall bladder surgery 2 years ago.
The pain never went away and only got worse.
Had 2 exploratory surgeries that made things even worse.
Now I have a diagnosis:
It is either Cecal Bascule (cecum flips up on itself) or Cecal Volvulus (cecum and right intestine twised).
It took me 2 long years of pain to finally be directed to a Colo-Rectal Surgeon.
If one is prone to a MOBILE CECUM, abdominal surgeries can cause these nightmarish conditions.
My advice - see a Colo-rectal Surgeon ASAP to rule out these possible problems. They will not go away with time or drugs - only specialized surgery will help.
NO ONE and NO WEBSITE ever mentions this problem - you must know what it is, before you can find out more about it, and it's more common than anyone realizes.
I now have some hope I might get my life back and can stop thinking of suicide.
Good Luck.
