I am sorry to hear of the pain you and your father have gone through. I have been going to doctors for 9 months with severe pain and still have no answers. Last week I "read my own" x-ray report and it stated "hemipelvis has scattered surgical clips"! I have never heard of this and have been researching. I had back surgery in January and was never told anything about this. Can you tell me if the pain was immediate or in time? I also had a bad injection of Kenalog prior to surgery and all these doctors seem to dismiss my pain. If you would like to email me. ANYONE with suggestions to help would be greatly appreciated!!!

I was left six and can't deal with my life anymore the pain is horrifying
I must agree with the people who find that metal implants are treated by the body as foreign material. The fact that so many people do not recognize these Titanium products as sources of dysfunction, pain and seemingly unrelated illness does not mean that Titanium is totally benign. We can have more problems than a metal allergy. I use Google Scholar to find actual studies. A kind of tumor at Titanium hip implant sites has been found.
One origin of edema, pain, and inflammation is the left Titanium debris. It can be in the form of Titanium ions and larger particles. These larger bits are both round and elongated. The elongated particles are established as more serious problems.
Another source of painful problems is the reaction of Titanium with dental-metals. Even gold can react. Results are major edema, pain and rejection. Implanted screws can back out of their intended sites.
Over six months ago, I submitted to bilateral bunionectomy. Healing was very fast for the first three weeks. Then the edema became extreme, and pain was debilitating. I had followed my podiatrist's instructions to the letter. I was awake 24/7 with pain. Ice became a way of life.
When a good response turns bad, a doctor should notice and not give the "give it time" response. This surgeon was so overbooked that I had to wait in awful pain for three months to have the implants removed. Removing these immediately eased the edema, but deformity followed. I now am in pain with no moments of relief. I can't work or do normal things. The financial fallout is extreme. The implants were removed nine weeks ago. I am in more pain than I was in before the first surgery. This last week was worse. I go to PT, but this seems useless.
I am worsening now, and I don't see how this could end well. My doctor first said that bodies love Titanium and that bone grows around it. Well this is not true here, and I see that I am far from the only unfortunate case. Can lives be ruined by these implants? Yes, they can and are. Today's medicine is unsafe. Usually it is unsafe because drugs are piled onto the problem. However, medical and surgical devices are causing loss of acceptable life
We know that surgery can be necessary, but it can cause more pain than the original condition. In the case of bunion surgery, the old stainless postens were best. They can be pulled out at six weeks often before and reaction can establish itself.. Titanium screws may be newer, but they remain implanted, Rejection takes time.
My hospital bill was just under $50,000, and I still don't see how outpatient surgery can cost that much. I had quickly recovered consciousness. No unusual services were needed. Over four months later, the Titanium implants
were
removed in-office for over $2,000. Do you see why I am now suspicious of this newer implant's use? I paid to be crippled and hurt for the remainder of a life that may be shortened by metal ion toxicity.

In a hypothetical case of implanted metal plus dental metals, removing one metal source would stop the source of the deleterious reaction form the metal combination. Even "gold: dental metals can cause reactions perhaps because the gold is present as an alloy and not pure gold.
