It's probably mono, a virus, that causes inflammation of the lymphatic system. It looks and feels a lot like strep. The swelling of the lymph nodes in the neck can put pressure on the ear and block some of the drainage tubes which lead to ear pain. Antibiotics don't work because it is a virus, not bacteria. Your body will naturally fight it and the symptoms (except for fatigue) will generally go away 7-10 days after the onset of symptoms. Avoid taking anything with acetaminophen since the virus attacks the liver and acetaminophen affects that organ too. I have been managing by taking 3 ibuprofen (200 mg each) every 5 hours to reduce the swelling, and drinking green tea with honey and ice water to sooth the throat. If the swelling gets too bad despite the ibuprofen, your doctor can prescribe steroids. A simple blood test can tell you if you have it. My doctor used blood they had take for an RBC to do it and it took all of 30 minutes to get the results.
Get all your wisdom teeth pulled now,do not wait.I am a 36 year old mother of 3 and have battled off and on 20 years od wisdom teeth and I had the same symptoms and everything. If left too long it can form pus pockets in your cheeks, head, throat and ear.It can also turn into malignant tumors.I hope this has helped you,I know what and why you feel that way and not to scare you but it can also be fatal. Thanks
Sounds like Mono you need to see your primary care dr. for blood work. I had the same thing it is a viral infection.
I have this poblem at the moment and can confirm it is my wisdom tooth!!! i get it all the time on and off as they are inpacted and in need of been removed (just the bottom ones). they are trying to push through but cant so i get an infection/inflamtion all the time. I too had my Tonsils removed and it feels like i never did with the pain i have at the moment. the pain is all contained to one side, gland/ear splitingly painful. at the moment i am traveling and cant afford the crazy prices of removal. so i need to wait till i go home in a few months. anti inflamitory's work the best (except at night when the pain wakes me up, so i am like a zombie at the moment o.O)
as a child i had a cold/flu/sinus and went to the doctor they told me i was fine. at the time i had a dentists appointment. my mum said to the dentist i wasnt feeling very well. out of courtesy. he asked was my jaw hurting me and i said yes. he took a xray to see if i had an infection. on the xray he was able to show me all the congestion build up from me sinus around my teeth and then told me, that pain travels into your ear and your face and neck. making you fell all the pain and that is why, the doctor wouldnt see anything wrong by looking. gave me some anitbotics and off i went all better.
thats the facts about how you whole face is linkd together. amazing to know. not so amazing to go through!!!
I hope this helps some people. I cant say its the answer to everyones probelms, maybe some though.

I've had the same symptoms, apart from a massive ulcer to make matters worse. Might actually top myself, by far the worst thing I've ever been through.
Infections, Infections everywhere! I just want to headbutt everything in sight! I was given antibiotics yesterday - One tablet, three times a day, So far no relief! *Dr. recommended me to take inner health plus AFTER the course is finished* Pulsating temple, horrific earache, mental toothache and dehydrated as f**k - no matter how much water I consume! Sleep is all I can do to escape the pain for a very short while before the pain strikes and wakes me from that tiny moment in heaven where there is no pain! Mine is an infection of the tooth *wisdom* I went to the Dentist before headed to the doctor and they were fully booked til f**k knows when. I was offered to "Sit and wait" but could be waiting all day for nothing. But now, as I am on the antibiotics I have to wait til I finish the whole course of medication before I can have my tooth removed! This sh*t is BALLS!
