I have shaved my chest and pubic area for many years. It feels cleaner and I think looks better. Early on there was some irritation but no longer. Occassionally there is some bleading where there are moles but nothing of consequence. I am a heterosexual male and frankly find the hairy chests and backs gross.
I have hairy chest on both front and back. I'm 45. I don't appreciate it at all. I had to shave them with a shaving trimmer. I felt so good and cool air on my skin that makes me feel free. Actually, it makes me to fly in the air. ;-)
I watched on TV show on PBS a couple of years ago. I dismay to learn that there was an experiment for a man with no beard and another man with a beard. A new baby recognized the difference. The baby smiled at the man's face without a beard. A man with a beard made the baby looked confused, awkward, and almost crying. That is most interesting because of the evidence unfortunately. Just look at some people with their baby's behavior when she/he looks at the men. Let you decide to shave the hair or not. Nobody really knows why we have so much hairy on our body. The scientist says that it's a hormone. A very stupid hormone.
Off record, I think I noticed that a man with hairy reduce winkles on the body. A man without hairy have more winkles. Probably, not true.
To the 14 year old, who ever you are, I hope you learned your lessen by shaving the black hairs on your chest and after what happened decided to leave them alone and don't shave them ever again. When I was a teenager, like you I noticed many black dots all over my chest and within 4 weeks all those dots had become hairs, I decided there and then never to shave or wax them off, that was 40 years ago or more, I have had a hairy chest since I was 16 and as I say never shaved them off, like me, you just leave them alone.
Hi webworld, It is strange how men vary in how they like or dislike having a hairy chest, practically all the men in the area that I live in the UK all have hairy chests and as far as I notice none like me have ever shaved or waxed the hair off. I know that in other places, some men like you don't appreciate having a hairy chest and then shave the hair off with a trimmer. That's OK with me but its just not a thing that I would ever think of doing to my hairy chest despite some people comparing it with a werewolf. I have always been very proud of the hairs on my chest, in fact when I was 12 and had no hair on my body except head I always hoped that I would have a hairy chest when I grew older. I got hairy when I was 17, I am now 67 and have never shaved, waxed or trimmed any hair off ever, I think the hair on my chest and shoulders must now be about 6" long and still growing slowly as I get older. No matter how long they get I will never shave or trim any off. As I say it just depends on the person, a lot of younger men do go for the smooth hairless look, but that is a thing I never even thought about ever.
hi am 18 years old i started to sprout chest hair at 14 around my nipples at first then by 15 between my pecs now my chest is very hairy and why would you want to shave it. Men are ment to be hairy wee boys are smooth
Any man who has a hairy chest should be darned proud of it, he should be very proud to have a chest like the two guys above, one seem to be very happy with it, the other is not.. To the 32 year old who is not happy, why not, a lot of men would envy you with a chest like yours. I too have a hairy chest which I am very happy with, so should you, The answer to your last sentence a big YES, very much wrong.
Sorry to disagree with you, however, that is your opinion, if you think hairy chests and backs are gross, OK, I have both a hairy chest and also a light covering of hair all over my back as well, I do not think that is gross. I am very hygenic and clean, shower, bathe in a very regular basis, its just a pity that because a man is hairy it looks as if he is dirty as well, its just a thing that we hairy men have to live with, on one hand I don;t mind being hairy, on the other I have had comments like I don;t wash, just can't win.
Although I am not gay, I am a hairy chested man as well, like you I have never, and will never shave or trim the hair off my chest ever, hairy chested men, gay or not are "real men".

I wished I had better informed my self on Do's and Don't's on body shaving . I had reasons . However , I discovered how much cooler I felt on those very hot days , PLUS , I really like feeling of clothes against my skin . That my friend was a new sensation . From that moment on i was anti hair , hair hater... Being a hater has bite me back with bumpy skin , ingrown hair.....im thinking " wet-dry sandpaper " ... Yeah...that's it...
