I too have noticed that the weight loss slows down some after even 3 weeks. Yes I did cheat, but not by much, when my stomach was upset a couple of times I ate 2-3 regular crackers with a tiny bit of peanut butter, didn't seem to effect anything. a week or so ago I had a couple beers with my girlfriend, which went un noticed but indeed I think hindered my weight loss goal, still shed 3 lbs the week after but again, not my goal.
Its funny, the staff has been sooo friendly and if I cheat I feel guilty. I started this as a research project, but am liking it now.
It is very expensive and I will only be able to do this a short time more, maybe a month. I have found alot of the bad things people are saying about it to be untrue. I hope it all doesnt pack right back on as soon as I am out the door, but I will say, I plan to live my life healthier now that I see how good I feel. So lets hope that, that helps too.
Its been 3 weeks tomorrow and I have lost 11.5 lbs, I will let you know at one month, oh by the way I have not been cheating lately as I am no longer feeling sick and the beers a week or more ago only left me guilt ridden and in the gymn everyday after.
good luck to you! I know you can do it! If this is your first diet, I think you are doing amazing, don't get discouraged. XD

Hi, I started the Diet on Monday and have still not been in a state of ketosis....even though I am following the diet to my best and have not cheated!! I am worried that i will be kicked out if my bdy doesn't adjust and kick into ketosis....is there a possibility that the reason is due to my period?

I started at 190.8lbs and my last weigh in yesterday says I am at 189lbs....I feel like things are out of my hands and that i have no control over how to get into ketosis. Can someone please HELP!!

Hi there...i am a Bernstein follower twice over. I am again on the diet after a long 7 years ramping the weight back up after my first attempt.

I can tell you that if you are losing your body is moving towards Ketosis. Sometimes you might not be taking in enough liquid. sometimes it takes people's bodies a different amount of time to shift into the "ketosis" mode. No worries, just follow along and take your vitamins and drink your liquids and it will happen.

My first experience with the diet and staff was very different from this go around. Even the same location but the atmosphere and the way i am "handled" has definately changed for the better. I find a lot of support at the centre and if you are following the diet and something is not going right, they are there to help you don't worry about being "kicked out".

I am 3 weeks Tuesday past and 23 lbs down. It is a tough road but amazing results. What i am most concerned about is the maintenance after.

I was wondering has anyone any experience with doing weight Watchers after Bernstein - did it work for maintaining the weight loss?

I have had great success with weight watchers in the past but just don't know if it will help me keep the weight off after such a dramatic program like Bernstein....

Thanks

Hi,

I am also at my second time with Dr. B. So, far so good. I never had a bad experience with the nurses or any of the staff. I think respect attracts respect.

Hi there,
I have been researching Dr. Bernstein's clinic and have been reading the various comments made.
Your experience sounds positive. Did you go to a clinic in Canada? If so, did you apply for a tax medical benefit?
Did you feel quite supported if you said you were struggling?
I know everyplace has someone who is not the happiest ( I should know I work in an ICU with 150 nurses)
How has maintenance been?
Any insight you could give me would be most appreciated
I tried your email but it didn't work.
You could email me at _[removed]_
Thanks very much

3 weeks at Dr. B, 16lb gone. A very strict diet but if followed results are excellent. Drink lots of water. Biggest change for me is sleep. I believe I was stuck in a "Carb Coma". Before the diet I was exhausted at 10pm and could sleep til 9am, still tired. If I woke at 7am, 8am, etc... I would feel as though I hadn't yet slept. I'm not bouncing off the walls with extra energy, but I do only need exactly 8 hours sleep now. If I go to bed at 11pm... 6:59am I open my eyes and actually "Wake Up". It's a great feeling to be back in the world of the living. In addition to the diet I am spinning for an hour about 4x a week, no problem. I keep a decent aerobic heart rate and feel great before, during and after. I've been out for dinner to 4 restaurants in the 3 weeks and have simply ordered greens as a starter, then meat (steak/cod/halibut) and steamed vegetables with sparkling water. Those with me had alcohol and bread and dessert, but I'm on this diet, they're not. It's my choice and one I'm very happy about.
I wish anyone wanting to lose weight more than luck... know that to lose weight you need to be in the right state of mind, and unless you're there, life will continue to challenge you. Dr. B is a great catalyst to get there if you need the help, which so many of us do. I go to Oakville, ON and everyone there has been fantastic.

I just signed up to the Bernstein diet and getting my 2nd set of injections today. I had reservations about the diet being healthy but I suppose for short term I should be allright. My dad - who is the LEAST LIKELY person to ever go on a diet because he was comfortable at his weight and didn't see a need to lose any of it (at 230 lbs). He is also usually very stubborn and doesn't like change. But he is now at 190 and seems healthier than ever!

The nurse explained that since I will be eating differently and much less, I should expect very little bowel movement (so poo once every 2 to 3 days). This struck me as unusual. Has anyone on Dr. B diet experienced this? Overall, do you feel healthy doing the diet? I worry that since I'm in school that I will experience low levels of energy and I know that I can't think straigt when I'm tired.

I know The DIN of the B-injectibles are 0224215 and 00521515 but, do you know the dosages of each vitamin ? I heard it was 3 1/2 mg each. I know it's suppose to be secret but, i know how these things can leak out

I joined Dr B last year and I lost 80lbs in 4months (with a 3 week break) and found it relatively easy except for the first week. Once you're in ketosis you don't get hunger pangs and I didn't dizzy spills, etc. I was and still am cold all the time and have very dry skin.

Dr Bernstein himself is a jerk. I met him once and was so turned off by him. He grabbed my stomach and jiggled it around and said I need to lose 20 more pounds before I should go on maintenance. The staff are generally friendly UNTIL you stop losing weight as fast as they like. My clinic has always been good but I went to a couple of others and there are RUDE.

Towards the end when I still had 10-15lbs to go, I quit because I wasn't losing it fast enough, rude staff and just do many social activities going on.

Right off the bat I gained 5lbs but I was able to maintain that weight for over 5months including a long vacation and xmas - I worked out and ate right. However, I couldn't lose the remaining 20lbs so I decided to rejoin. It much more harder this time around because I'm so close to my goal and the weight is coming off much slower.

Overall, except for a few rude staff, I don't have any complaints about it. Your body is in starvation mode, no question about it but because you're ketosis and injections, you don't feel it. My biggest issues with the diet were mental - e.g. feeling of being deprived and lack of freedom. When I'd go to the grocery store, I'd feel sorry for myself that I couldn't buy (eat) whatever I wanted - even healthy things like yogurt, cereal, veggies, fruit, etc.

Before and after I went off the diet, I was so afraid I'd gain all the weight back and first little while I was so scared to eat anything! But now that I know I can indeed the maintain the weight and still eat whatever I like in moderation, I feel much more confident.

As for the loose skin - well I'm in my early 30s but I have been working out since I was 20 - I did weights and cardio but while I was on the diet I didn't do any exercise. When the weight came off - you could see toned muscle! My skin for the most part remained pretty tight except the usual problem area (stomach, inner thighs and upper arm). I think this depends on your age, the amount of weight you're losing, how long you've been overweight, type of skin - everyone will be different.

Overall it's so well worth it for me BUT this diet is not for everyone, not even most people. It takes an incredible amount of will power, self-control and determination. There are so many people who lose all the weight and gain it back. They go on the diet 2, 3, 4 even 5 times! If you don't have strong will power and don't want to make lifestyle change, forget it you're wasting your money.

It worked well for me because I had developed a healthy life style over the years but I just couldn't lose the weight I had already gained and am determined to never go back to the way I was!

I am skeptical about this because I have known a few people who feel faint because of the shots and/or diet.

Without being a medical doctor and treating these people directly I can only speculate why they were feeling faint.

The theory to taking off weight is take in less calories than your allotment based on your age, gender, daily physical activities, current weight, current body fat percentage and any additional physical activity you may be doing.

With some people, walking a good few kilometers at a good pace to bring up the heart beat and work up a little sweat can burn enough calories to drop a pound or two. That usally only works for the folk who haven't worked out in a long while and are considered 'obese'. The workouts should be graduating to more strenous workouts to burn more calories because the muscle is strengthening.

Always remember Calories in and Calories out. If you are only injesting 800 calories a day based on your age, weight and gender then doing a hard workout, you would be burning muscle and this is definitely not good for your body. Your body, like a car, needs fuel to run. You should be consuming less calories to loose weight, but you should never go into the negative in calories.

Checkout and create yourself a profile. BE Honest while you are creating this. If you don't enter in the details properly, it won't be benificial for you. While you are tracking your food... again BE Honest. If you lie on this, you won't really understand why you aren't loosing weight.

I started at 230 lbs size 18-20. I herniated my back and through the recovery I realized I wasn't even able to walk for 15 minutes on a slight incline without building up a sweat under the care of my physical therapist. I started to work out with my approved exercises and slowly but surely I got stronger. I also joined another healthy weight loss solution (ww) and it also helped me to realize just how much fat that cheese really has in it. Did you know you would have to walk for 2 hours to burn off a Big Mac at a 3.5 pace????? Through this I have dropped over 40 lbs and down to a healthy size 14. I am still monitoring my food and working out daily and I am stronger than ever, and I haven't been to the physical therapist in over 8 months!! I am looking forward to getting into a size 10 one of these days, and it will take my Workouts and Proper eating habits to get there.

There is no quick fix, unless you want to go and live & work on a farm with no TV, no Internet, no Car and only healthy local food (means no processed foods). I tell you, if you were to spend a summer on a farm working with no TV, no Internet, no CAr and only local foods, you would easily drop 30 lbs if not more. By the way I am not a farm girl, but i know the lifestyle and I know that it is a clean way to drop the weight and pick up some very healthy lifestyle habits
