Hello,

I have been on the diet for a month now and I have lost about 14 pounds.  I was hoping to at least be in the 16-20 lb wight loss range.  I am upset with the quality of care I have been receiving from the clininc in terms of information I am being given.  One nurse tells me I will lose up to 5lbs a month on maintenance and another one will tell me maybe 1lb in the first week and that is it.  Then I am told if I am feeling really hungry I can have an extra half serving of protein.  The wight loss these past two weeks have been minimal and then I am told it's because I am having more protein.  No one told me that haveing a bit more protein would make the weight loss practically come to a standstill.  Well if they tell me it's okay to do it then later come back and say it's because I ate the extra half serving of protein what am I supposed to think.  Then the nurse tells me that maybe the person who told me it was okay thought I was excersing.  I was told not to bother excercising.  Needless to say I am a bit confused and disappointed in the inconsistency of information I am receiving and I am considering not going back ro do maintenance with them.  I aske and they said that week by week they slowly reintroduce more protein and some starches, less ruit and limitless veggies.

Has anyone tried doing the maintenance program on their own.  I don't believe it's the b shots that are casuing the weight loss so if I just slowly increase my intake I am hoping to be fine on my won.  You put so much faith and trust in this staff that supposedly knows what they are doing and I am not sure I have any confidence left in them.

Can someone tell me what the maintenance program looks like so I can do it by myself at home?

I was one of the original group that started in Alberta. Hated it lost 87 lbs. Nurses extremely overweight and rude. I quit
because I requested what was in shots and nurse gave me DN. no. Not allowed and my pharmacist thought this was crazy. Dr. Bernstein cares only about money as when he called me to rant explained that I was a loser for not losing more
weight. He then banned me from returning. Best thing that happened as I lost all weight without his cost. Ridiculous!

Im on dr.B and I love it...Im dropping weight AND learning about healthy choices...People who gain the weight back are not commited to changing their life...The nurses are LOVELY and very helpful...people who complain about the diet obviously like being fat and unhealthy...we all got fat because of OUR poor choices..pull your sock up quit complaining and work harder

I have used the dr.Bernstein's plan for over 15 years. The problem with that is

in 15 years, I have only been at my goal for approximately 6 months.  So you figure

the amount of money, I have used on this is ridiculous, I could have had a total body surgery for the money.  My disappointment is that I never learned how to eat properly.  when you lost you felt great, when life, example ( hormones, holiday's) took you off course you didn't lose.

I do believe I became a joke to the staff, as I just couldn't lose the weight.  I have wised up and have done my own homework with nutrition and exercise.  There is no magic pill, injection or diet.  Hard work and discipline are the key

Aren't you embarrased to speak on a topic without the facts?

Not everyone reading these posts have a grade 4 education!  The Dr. B program does work and if you're hungry well drink more water!!

Most people who have more than 20lbs to lose are going to be hungry in the beginning.  We (yes, I'm included) don't eat because we're hungry, we eat for a thousand other reasons and not one of them is not hunger - unless you have a medically diagnosed problem that you're not disclosing.

Whether you go on Weight Watchers or this one they are all the same.  You cannot go back to eating the way you did before.  This program just speeds up the weight loss. If you join WW you will lose between .5lb-2lb per week - maximum.

I lost 130lbs on Weight Watchers in 10 months because i couldn't wait for the pounds to come off at 2lbs a week, I'd pull my hair out before then!! Yes, 10 months.  I remained on the week 1 program and worked out 5 days per week for 1 - 2 hours a day.  Everyone was shocked.  I was hungry - plain and simple.  3.5 years later I gained not only the initial 130lbs back but an additional 35 pounds - life happens and I buried my face in the fridge (I'm not proud of it).  This had NOTHING do to with the Weight Watchers program not working but had everything to do with me jamming the kitchen sink down my gullet - yes, gullet.  If you're eating the quantity of food I was eating every day - you don't even feel human - you're just numb.

Anyway, I digress....

My point is that you have to know that if you're overweight and have been for a period of time, you cannot ever go back to eating or living the way you did in the past or you will go back to looking like and feeling like you did.  Regular exercise and food modification must become part of your routine.

I will say that 99 percent of the weight loss programs only address the weight loss - but tell me which one's don't?  And please don't tell me Weight Watchers because I have been a member for 20 ++ years (Lifetime member)  and its become a social gathering for fat people who are bored at home and not really interested in losing weight.  Now, I should'nt say that because there are those that come, lose and leave but there are quite alot of others that are there for years and never reach their goal weight!!!

I have been to countless meeting rooms and that's why I wanted to try something different....

Anyway, my point is this... Weight Watchers is run by people who are just like you and me - no formal training or medical experience.

I was 165lbs overweight in January of this year, and I went through a battery of tests with both my doctor and with Dr. B Diet.  I feel slightly safer with this program than with WW.  And to all those that complain about the cost -- go somewhere else.  But I believ this --  what's the point of having money if you're too fat or sick to enjoy it!!  I just bought a new home and couldn't make it up the stairs more than 1x each day - and I'm not 50 yet!

I started walking briskly for 60minutes a day (this week) and the pounds are coming off quickly.  And I'm not a spring chicken either.  I was at 302 during my initial weighed-in.

The program is what you make it.  Find a buddy (go online and find one in your area), join a gym and hop on a treadmill, or go for a walk.  If you really want to lose weight -- you will find a way.  It doesn't have to be DR. B - but it helps to "feel" like you have a support system.  Whether its real or not.  I also bought e-books on weight loss by Dr. OZ to better understand my body.  So I listen to them while I walk.  I also bought a FitBit to count my steps -- and to make it fun.

I have also engaged a psychologist to figure out WHY AM I EATING?  Say what you want about this but I don't want to go back to being fat and want to better understand the connection between my emotions and food.  I'm filing for divorce!!  I never want to go back to that old person again.

People gain weight for a lot of reasons and not all of them are physical (slow thyroid, slow metabolism etc.).

At the end of the day, please stop being a victim and take charge of your life.  No one else is going to do it for you!!  Life is too short to have a weekly pity party.  Before you know it you've let your youth and health escape you.  You cannot turn the clock back and there is no guarantee for tomorrow.

It definitely works and works fast. It is VERY expensive. There are several clinics throughout the GTA and the diet is closely DR. monitored.
If you have the money, I strongly suggest using this diet.

Not true!!! I missed my goal by .2 oz on the contract!!! I never gave the nurses attitude whatsoever!! I got kicked out and they told me its forever!!! Special circumtance!! what special circumstance? It sounds to me that if health care covers some of the cost, and we pay as well, nobody should be kicked off a diet!!!! what kind of health care nurses and real doctors allow this to be happening? The nurses are afraid to speak out against Dr. Bernstein...makes no sense!

I have been on the program for 2 months and have lost 44 lbs.  I have tried everything to lose the excess weight.  I have lots more to go but for the immediate futrue..I no longer take insulin before a meal (thats three needles a day gone!!) 3 metformin pills a day have been eliminated one of my high blood pressure pills has been eliminated and my night  time insulin has just been reduced.

Hmmm $600 a month vs insulin, high blood pressure pills and metformin..I'll take the $600 a month.  The plan works..it really does.  It is also an education on how to eat, what to eat and how much to eat.  Sorry, did the weight watcher gig...you kill yourself everyday eat more salad than a person ought to..go to your meeting and weigh in  only to find that you have lost 2 lbs..woo hoo...every other day you can lose 1-2 lbs...seeing results is what works...is it healthy..just look at the meds I am no longer taking and tell me it isn't healthy oh and by the way...my Dr. gets the reports from Dr Bersteins clinic..if there was an issue I am sure he would have called me.  As for the staff...wonderful..real people not models but real..yes some are over weight..but this is real life no one is perfect none of us are God!!  I would totally recommend this porgram to everyone..the cost holds a lot of  people back..some just truly cant afford it..thats why I am lobbying to get OHIP to pay for this!!!

As for those of you who have gained all your weight and then some back...I suggest you take a look at the way you were eating prior to going on the plan..look at how you were eating on the plan and then look at what and how you are eating now...I bet that would explain the reason for the weight gain...this is not a fast fix..this is a life time change for those of us who are obese and need to lose the weight for our health!!

I started this diet on my own a month ago and I have lost 20 pounds. I researched it for  4 weeks and purchased all the vitamins from the grocery store. I printed the foods list from an on-line site. I do not crave sweets or salty foods and I am not hungry in between meals. For someone like me, who was eating only one meal a day, there is more than enough food! I love this diet! And, even better it is costing me next to nothing. I have never felt so good in my life and I have not cheated on it. I need to lose 60 pounds and I feel confident I can do it with the progress so far. I love the variety of foods on the list and I measue it out just as he directs. I do not find it to be as restictive as some believe it is.  I live in Lexington Kentucky so we do not have clinics here. No one around here even knows who Dr.Bernstein is. The best part of this diet is that I feel I can continue to eat in this healthy way for the rest of my life. I know I will need to add more food when I have reached my goal weight but I have tons of research from all the sites to provide me with what I need to do to maintain my weight. There is so much information people have posted (good, bad and ugly) that I see no reason why a clinic is needed. I know what to expect, how I might feel, and what to do if I slow in my weight loss.  Obviously the oral vitamins work just fine rather than injections. Another good thing about this diet is that it was developed for diabetics and my husband is. So, all the foods I buy and prepare are good for him too. He has lost weight and he is not even on the diet! I am sure I will read comments about how dangerous this is for me to do it on my own but I would rather sit back and read them wearing a size 4 then a size 12. Ha Ha!

How could have you got pancreatitis on Dr. Bernstein? Dr. Bernstein is the healthiest weight management program out there, hmm pancreatitis sounds like someone may have had a diet pill problem, and is blaming the program.
