I hope someone can help me out. I have just gone thru a bad bout with insomnia. I have been on quite a few medications thru the last 4 years. The insomnia came about just as I was comming down with some type of bacterial infection. The doctor put me on cipro. I have been on it for about 5 days now. Yesterday was very bad, evey time I walk i get these "shocking" feelings thru my head and body. I am also suffering from bad back problems and have been on everything from fentenyl, percocet, and I am comming off of a few weeks of methadone. I have been off the metadone for about 3- 4 weeks now, and the doctor has put me on Gabentin. I was to take it 3 times a day, but could not tolerate it ,so he told me just take it at night for now. I feel like i am going to crawl out of my skin on some days. This whole feeling of getting the "electric shock feeling" is very scary.I hope someone out there may have some type of an answer for what this might be. PLEASE HELP.

That makes complete sense, withdrawals from antidepressants. I haven't taken mine for a week and these tingling jolts of sensation started yesterday. It's starting to cause anxiety now. I know it's bad to suddenly stop taking antidepressants but life got a bit busy but these sensations are horrible. Time to start taking them again!

It's amazing how you can receive a better and more understanding answer from question research than you can from what you contiously explain to your own personal doctor thank you for giving me knowledge and understanding of my issues.
My experience started about 6 months ago. Pulsating electric wave running over my entire body. Then 2 months ago I "woke" up with this downward pressure pushing me into the mattress. Frankly it scared the crap out of me. Recently I "rode" the next squashing until I couldn't stand it anymore. Now I wait for the next round, I intend to ride it to an end. Having read so many stories of no medical danger, I'm lying (literally) in wait for it. It's interesting what I conjure up in my mind as the culprit. I want to "conquer" that initial fear and even find entertainment in it, after all no one seems to have fixed it. Never imagined I would experience such a phenomenon, much less share. I hope all that do experience this learn to deal with it. As for now let's get ready to rumble!

I just quit taking Paxil about a week ago and for the last couple days I have been having these electrical jolts through my body. After reading some of these I think I will call my doctor.
Have the same thing! Have had it intermittently gor padt 25 years. It is a terrible shock like sensation on my right side that is temporarily paralyzing to that side of the body. Thought it was a stroke, tia, MS for a while. I was finally diagnosed with a cervical spine issue. Check your C spine!!!!!
I also took Effexor 10 years ago and feel the electrical pulses/shocks when the weather is cold and when I get just a little bit tired.
At first I would have agreed with you about the antidepressant withdrawl, as I also have been diagnosed with fibro, and at first when i started getting the shocks it seemed to only be durring the switching of meds. Its been going on for a little over 3 years now and now it is a daily occurance for at least part of the day and I do not miss my meds. I think there is more to it, but have been through every kind of exam imaginable, from neuro to infectious diseases, to cardiac and everything in between and nothing has yeilded any real answers. Hopefully one day someone will be able to give us some kind of answer. God bless all of you and always keep faith that one day we will have an answer.
I am reading your posts and sitting here being shocked out of my mind. I have never been diagnosed with fibro, although I have complained about symptoms on and off for years. As a matter of fact I have had these shocks most of my life (I am now almost 65) sometimes to the point that after an episode that my hair hurt and I felt like I had a sunburn all over my body. Tonight I just don't feel well at all because of it. I take meds for my BP only so I am not "coming off" anything. How do I get my Dr to listen to me and take me seriously. This is not fun at all. I just know I need some help.
I too missed a dose of my anti d pills and had the same reaction as did a friend of mine. It can also be from other issues like multiple sclerosis.
