I hope someone can help me out. I have just gone thru a bad bout with insomnia. I have been on quite a few medications thru the last 4 years. The insomnia came about just as I was comming down with some type of bacterial infection. The doctor put me on cipro. I have been on it for about 5 days now. Yesterday was very bad, evey time I walk i get these "shocking" feelings thru my head and body. I am also suffering from bad back problems and have been on everything from fentenyl, percocet, and I am comming off of a few weeks of methadone. I have been off the metadone for about 3- 4 weeks now, and the doctor has put me on Gabentin. I was to take it 3 times a day, but could not tolerate it ,so he told me just take it at night for now. I feel like i am going to crawl out of my skin on some days. This whole feeling of getting the "electric shock feeling" is very scary.I hope someone out there may have some type of an answer for what this might be. PLEASE HELP.

I was diagnosed in 2002 with Multiple Sclerosis. I had this electrical.shock for the first time 2.days ago in my sleep. Went to my neurologist today. He explained to me that the myelin sheath that coats your nerves in the brain is gone. Stress, body getting over heated, bulging disk which I have or your head bent down to your chest can bring on this electrical shock. Inflammation of the spine can also be a.reason. Since I has MS he feels this might be the problem. Going for another MRI to see if any changes since last MRI from years ago. Also xray of my spine since it could be bulging disc. I already take muscle relaxer and have been very fortunate all these years and have avoided injections for MS. I wish you the best and would ask for MRI to rule out MS. GOD BLESS YOU.
I'm right there with you my family thinks I'm going nuts. Like you I have looked up my symptoms and ended up in the same spot. I'm going to urgent care today cause I can't take it no more. I think my doctor thinks I'm nuts as well cause I have so many sensations together one being in feel like a hair moving down my spine and under my skin . My hair gets really bad static when I get the electric sensation and my hair starts knotting up . I'm sure this did not help you but you are definitely not alone. There has to be a reason for all these sensations.
Until now I did not have a name for it. It drives me nuts all day & night. It makes me stress out to no end. I have tried breathing deep and slow. Nope does not work. Tried warm baths. Nope does not work. That makes me feel like someone threw a hairdryer in the water . I am going crazy. Now I know people are calling it zaped. It's like I did when I plugged in my vacuum cleaner and got Electric shock . It's like I have a tens unit on and I can't turn it off . Help me lord I am going crazy
Hey, did you ever get an answer? Ive never had these electrical shock wave feelings in my body until i started taking zoloft, and i hate it because zoloft has really helped me but these shocking feelings are weird, i almost feel like i have the power of an eel
Ok I've hand them off and on for years. Only meds i take are pain. For my lower back. But I had the strongest one yet. I feel completely different. This feeling I knew it was coming as it happened my ears begin to hear every sound in universe within 5 seconds. The annoying dial up download sound was what I began to blow my lid and this shock energy. Like they reprogrammed me. I was and still different person before that zap. I must have felt someting different. Or you wouldn't dismissed. I feel different I knew it was happening. I controlled the second rush or zap. I really did. I know this sounds nuts. There's something else going on. Since after those flashes of electrical shocks I hear. A lot. I hear everything around me. I can detach myself from my body easily. At least for someone who has never meditated before and after the shocks I can concentrate little and I stArt separating from the flesh. I know none of you will believe me. Even say I'm trolling or whatever. I'm just talking my experiences
I'm not sure about all of you are having the same problem, but some of you who are or have been on and kind of depression or anxiety medicine, need to know that the shocking feeling, is a side effect of coming off of that type of medicine, and/or you are having an anxiety attack, because that is a symptom of an anxiety attack, even for those who have not been on, or taking medication, get that symptom during an anxiety attack, it can happen during a stressed time or even after all the stress is gone. You may not even think you have stress, or anxiety, until you start having the symptoms. I would talk with your doctor about your symptoms, to make sure it is not something else, but you should look up anxiety symptoms, and see if they are related, then talk to your doctor about what you can do. I hope this was helpful to at least some of you. Good luck.
I have been dealing with this for quite some time now. I was recently checked for MS but it was negative. I was told I have degenerative disc disease in back and neck.every time I stand up to walk after sitting. My hands start shocking and my legs, whole body. It's the worse feeling ever and I can't get a diagnosis. I'm on gabapentin, Melixocam and flexeril. I just wish there was an answer.
I have been on Effexor and trazadone for about, 4 years, these shocks have became very prominent lately and this increased more so when my trazadone script ran out about 2 weeks ahead of time. everyone is saying they are on some kind of medication, as well. I'm not a doctor, but how can so many people taking antidepressants or similar drugs be experiencing the same thing. DONT DRINK THE WATER THERE IS BLOOD IN THE WATER..
Last night I got woken up by what I call an electroshock in my penis, I have never had so much pain in my life it lasted about an hour on and off, then I fell asleep and I have not had it happen again yet, but it's pretty damn scary I know that for sure. What am I to think of this should I got to the hospital. Any advice would be helpful thanks.
I've had electric shocks for eleven years! Believe it or not... try benedryl. I take 2-3 pink tabs... chew a piece of gum to keep my mind occupied. I roll my self in a ball and I just rock back and forth. Eventually it will pass but at times my would or could last up to three days straight! And... try one to two puffs of weed. I don't like weed but if I don't do it that way then I would want to jump off a bridge. It's worth a try!
Hi everyone, I have lived with this for 9 years, seen a dozen neurologists and had countless tests.   First, this general thing can come in many forms.  My own appears to have evolved from restless legs syndrome.  It strikes most often when I am laying down and mentally relaxed - when I go to bed.  It historically has been a sharp jolt from nowhere.  It may happen in isolation or keep happening everywhere from once a minute to once every 15 minutes. I have had every conceivable image of my brain and spine and every imaginable test down to spinal taps.No one knows what it is.I have been on an SSRI the whole time. For me a Parkinson's disease called Mirapex (Pramipexole) helps to keep it at bay.  Mirapex is a dopamine agonist.  It is widely used for restless legs syndrome.  It is a cheap generic drug and readily prescribed by a general doc.  I recommend that anyone facing this give it a try.
That is interesting, have you talked to your doctor about what is going on, or if you are religious you could also talk to the church you go to. I hope you find out.
Just wondering if you have seen a psychologist about this, just asking because that shocking feeling is a symptom of an anxiety attack, and benadryl is the first thing they would prescribe for anxiety attacks, and weed is good to calm you down and help with anxiety also. Just a suggestion, thought it would be worth saying. My son was doing the same thing, but his psychologist prescribed some allergy medicine and it really helps.
I agree, and it is a withdrawal symptom, if you stop taking that type of medicine. Even if you skip a dose it can happen also.
Have you seen a doctor, you might have an infection or something like that. Especially if you have a urinary tract infection.
