I hope someone can help me out. I have just gone thru a bad bout with insomnia. I have been on quite a few medications thru the last 4 years. The insomnia came about just as I was comming down with some type of bacterial infection. The doctor put me on cipro. I have been on it for about 5 days now. Yesterday was very bad, evey time I walk i get these "shocking" feelings thru my head and body. I am also suffering from bad back problems and have been on everything from fentenyl, percocet, and I am comming off of a few weeks of methadone. I have been off the metadone for about 3- 4 weeks now, and the doctor has put me on Gabentin. I was to take it 3 times a day, but could not tolerate it ,so he told me just take it at night for now. I feel like i am going to crawl out of my skin on some days. This whole feeling of getting the "electric shock feeling" is very scary.I hope someone out there may have some type of an answer for what this might be. PLEASE HELP.

In regards to the shocking, I was experiencing these shocks, throughout my entire body, quite some time before using any drugs.
It's associated to nerves, that much I can assure each of you. Beyond that, it's case-by-case and variable.

I've been having similar symptoms, and lately I have also been getting dizzy and nauseated in addition to the little shocks at night, especially as I'm going to sleep. Did you every get a diagnosis on your condition?
Yes, I have been off Zoloft for a week now and that's when they started. This happened last time I had to stop Zoloft during times when I was taking another Med. Could be a withdrawal side effect it seems.
It is possible that you are experiencing a reaction to the cipro. People have negative reactions to Levafloxacin, Ciprofloxacin, and other floraquinoline antibiotics. There is now a black box warning. It takes 2 to 6 years to recover from these reactions which appear to be neurological and muscular.
I had those just when I was starting to fall asleep and was quite terrified knowing again I would not sleep.
My electric shock sensations might not be the ones described, but if they are: they stopped when I stopped watching any kind of computer/ipad/cell phone screen at night. At least one and a half hour before going to bed, even with blue filters, no more screens. I also installed f.lux on the computers just in case.
Problem solved, no more electric shocks. I also use the Headspace on sleep (on the go) meditation exercice…
it is the same feeling as when therer are pinsandneedles in your fingers
Same thing happens to me. Effexor is a really addictive drug and it is awful when you skip a dose.
Just this past weekend I had ran out so I went two days without taking it and the shocking feeling takes such a tole on your body. It's exhausting and frustrating! Nobody feels your pain because most people have never felt it or heard of it. When I described the feeling everyone looks at me like crazy for saying I get an electric shock feeling through my body.
It's definitely good to know I'm not crazy!
are you a drinker? I've been tested for ms and have had evaluations into my drinking but i cannot seem to get an answer. apparently it's non existent.
I asked my doctor to please put me down. I have electric shocks so severe that I no longer want to live . I have been dealing with it eleven years! Now I don't want to commit sucide, I need a doctor to stick a needle in my arm and end my life! The shocks become so painful that I feel like electric is running through my body . My arms , legs, torso, everywhere! I've also been on every medication! Currently twelve! When I told my doctor that I'm searching for doctor death, he suggested that I try weed. I hate the high and it doesn't help! Does anyone one know what happened? Did they poison the water or air? Something isn't right! No one had these issues years ago and they always blame it on fibromyalgia! It's not! The doctor says that because they don't know what it is or really what the cause is. I seem to call the doctors " dummy doctors ". They aren't prepared to take on cases like yours or mine because we are consuming their time and they truly don't know what it is!
I have horrible electrical shocks if I'm startled or hear sharp sudden noises. They don't be even have to be loud. It's worse if I'm tired or sick. Any ideas bc drs just look at me like I'm crazy !!
