I hope someone can help me out. I have just gone thru a bad bout with insomnia. I have been on quite a few medications thru the last 4 years. The insomnia came about just as I was comming down with some type of bacterial infection. The doctor put me on cipro. I have been on it for about 5 days now. Yesterday was very bad, evey time I walk i get these "shocking" feelings thru my head and body. I am also suffering from bad back problems and have been on everything from fentenyl, percocet, and I am comming off of a few weeks of methadone. I have been off the metadone for about 3- 4 weeks now, and the doctor has put me on Gabentin. I was to take it 3 times a day, but could not tolerate it ,so he told me just take it at night for now. I feel like i am going to crawl out of my skin on some days. This whole feeling of getting the "electric shock feeling" is very scary.I hope someone out there may have some type of an answer for what this might be. PLEASE HELP.

Everyone hear with this shock feeling problem; this is just an idea that mite be worth looking into ok..do you notice something about most of the cases..?
weather it's Medicines or life stresses almost seems like a steep change in dopamine levels and stress.
Mainly the dopamine ...like maybe a big build up of dopamine in the brain then it's cut off from it...where I get this idea is because I too live with the (surges) as I call them and well. .lets just say this mite be worth looking into ok. ..I'm not an MD but I'm a thinker and I've seen a thing or two.

Its the drugs. Psych meds are poison.

I've it also. Very strong current. It's the "safe" drugs or "medications". Pure poison. Specifically withdrawing from benzos.

Yes, I was the same way with zoloft. Although afer reading most of the posts I recently went to the ER because of a severe spasm in my neck and mid back. I have had back surgery about two years ago and trauma to the neck but seemed to get depressed from mobility and constant pain, so I started zoloft. The electric jolts through the body seem to be getting worse and it is scary. On the subject you were saying I did miss a couple doses of meds just to see how I felt and it was worse. I think the combination of the the two just threw it in overdrive. It is getting worse by the day and I don't know what type of doctor I should see, but something has got to give. Good luck and you are not alone!
Same thing happens to me and I also take Effexor. Went to the doctors back when it first started and he didn’t do anything about it and made me feel weird like I was making it up. It now happens very often to me and even sometimes when I don’t even miss a dose. It’s a very scary feeling and it super uncomfortable.
Thank you so much for posting this!!!!! I've been feeling this for weeks now on & off. I'm going to the market tomorrow & buying avacado & bananas! I need to incorporate more potassium rich foods into my diet. You are a lifesaver!!
thanks, but I am in Uganda does Electrosensitivity UK also help me yet am in Uganda
That's when I noticed mine. I've been out of my Zoloft a Lil over a week now and no longer have a Dr. I really hope that's what this is because its freaking me out!
I’ve had the same symptoms that you described for four years now. Sometimes it only makes my head jerk and other times it’s a full body jerk. I keep track of them on a calendar, for who knows why. Had my hearing checked ( I also have severe ringing in my ears), seen a neurologist, told any doctor that would listen, All to no avail. Mine only occur at night usually 3-5 a. m. Had two this morning. I’m thinking myloclonus, not Parkinson’s, as a neurologist treated me for two years for it when I didn’t have it.
I wish there were an answer. They don’t scare me as much anymore, but I surely don’t like them.
I started this electrical zapping little shocks all over my body few months ago. I was in car accident and went through chiro and found out I have herniated disc and did some acupuncture. But I noticed after doing acupuncture I got this started. So I am not sure if it is the herniated disc or acupuncture. I have tried allergist, regular dr and noone knows. My dermatologist prescribed gabapentin for ppl who have seizures but I have not taken it yet because I don't want to take every day. I have tried allergy medication over the counters. Allegra, and others. And the only one that works so far is the Benadryl but then you have to put up with the drowsiness. I try to take it on weekend or if I know I don't have to go anywhere next day then i will take it so I can relax being still drowsy the next day from benadryl.
I think when you are thinking myloclonus is sudden jerking of the muscle. I don't know if you get this little tiny shocks. Like someone is taking an electric cable and just barely touches you with the in low dosage but you still feel it. Thats how it feels. I can picture in our body and our nerves have electric current going through it and it makes me wonder why it shocks in certain area more like it is either getting through a hurdle or something. So it jumps instead of going straight in a smooth pattern. Another way I can describe is if you had an electric wire and it got a small cut or hole so you can see the electric will not travel straight instead it will leak out slightly throughout the hole but the rest will still keep going. I don't know if I am making any sense but this is how I am picturing.
I have electrical through my anus hole when maximum too.
To everyone having the shock feeling when changing or stopping certain medications, that is your neurons misfiring due to the sudden lack of serotonin. It's a type of withdrawal from the medication.
My daughter keeps getting what she describes as “electricity” feelings in her stomach and chest. None of her doctors are able to give us an explanation. What can be the cause? She has a heart condition but her cardiologist said these sensations are not related to her heart. But he didnt know what it was. She’s 15.
I was getting these shocks all over the body and side of my head I feel like a tingling feeling like something is crawling inside. But last couple of weeks it went away.. I noticed when I started walking on the track like 3 miles and it started to go away. And sometimes i still get it but I take half a benadryl and it helps trust me.. Try taking benadryl take half at first because it is so drowsy.. And don't take it right before bed or else you won't be able to wake up alertful..
