I hope someone can help me out. I have just gone thru a bad bout with insomnia. I have been on quite a few medications thru the last 4 years. The insomnia came about just as I was comming down with some type of bacterial infection. The doctor put me on cipro. I have been on it for about 5 days now. Yesterday was very bad, evey time I walk i get these "shocking" feelings thru my head and body. I am also suffering from bad back problems and have been on everything from fentenyl, percocet, and I am comming off of a few weeks of methadone. I have been off the metadone for about 3- 4 weeks now, and the doctor has put me on Gabentin. I was to take it 3 times a day, but could not tolerate it ,so he told me just take it at night for now. I feel like i am going to crawl out of my skin on some days. This whole feeling of getting the "electric shock feeling" is very scary.I hope someone out there may have some type of an answer for what this might be. PLEASE HELP.

Anyone who is getting it from the lumbar spine to the legs down could have some nerve damage and I also heard Neurontin was for these type of things. Anyone who tries, feel free to tell us your experience on it and if it works. You could really help a lot of people on here.

As for the brains, it could be more than nerve problems or something really minor yet mysterious. One thing is for sure, don't quit trying to find a solution because there are not answers to everything but you should still try to find what you can do to relieve this. Luckily, I have some things you can try. See if it helps, if not, at least you can rule it out.
1. Vitamin B: These are important for the functioning of the nervous system. B12 is especially important and deficiencies can occur, although rare.
2. Vitamin C: It increases brain activity and reduces depression and lethargy. Maybe, just maybe, these shocks are coming from the brain itself to let it know it is alert. Increasing this activity might let your brain realise it is alert and therefore it does not need to shock itself.
3. One of the last things that I think may be helpful is a gabapentin which acts on the brains neurotransmitters. It has been used for neuropathic pain and may assist in these shocks that many feel (especially those who think this has to do with a nerve).
Let me know if any of these help, but remember, they're not a sure solution, so let your doctor know before taking these - especially #3. Hope it gets better. If anyone would like to talk more about this, keep posting and I'll see if I can find anything because we all need help once in a while. Lastly, just to let you know, I have experienced those in my legs one time or another, so I am not one of those people who just talks because I have read books. I literally know about this and how it could feel.

Interesting that someone mentioned Hep C. I have the shocking sensation through my upper gut and was just recently diagnosed with Hep C. Although, I noticed that I have the problem more when I use blankets that are knit or that are really fluffy, like the heavy, super soft, fake fur acrylic and polyester blends. I remember when I was little, my sister and I used to pull the blankets apart and watch the electric flashes. We thought that was so cool! Now I look at this with a scientific eye and have concern. I have actually experienced such severe shocking that I felt as though I were being electrocuted, literally when using the light, supersoft, knit type blanket. I was incapacitated and unable to escape the feeling or move for what seemed like hours . I think them dangerous and got rid of them and vowed never to buy one again!

I just googled the electric shock through my body and it brought me to this web site. I am having the same shock feeling through out my body. I first noticed it about a year ago, but it only happened when I would relax at the end of the day. Then it started getting worse and I noticed it is every time the sound changes on my TV or the phone rings. It started out with just the shocks through out my whole body, but now, I am dizzy and nauseated and the shocks seem to be more frequent. The other day, I had to hang up the phone, because every time the other person would say something, it would give me that shock feeling. I went to the doctor today, because I thought maybe it was coming from my inner ear (which it feels like), but he said it wasn't and referred me to a neurologist. But, I do feel better knowing that others are having the same problem and no one is finding out what is causing it. I have had cancer 2 times in the past 2 years (melanoma and kidney) and I was afraid maybe it had something to do with one of the cancers.
I too have this problem most of the time laying down then i feel the wave come from my feet to my head and it shocks my brain and thats all i hear it sometimes even happens back to back and i feel it twice at the same time i thought it was because i used to do tabs. but i think my braian is messed up if some one daes really find the answer please let me know because i hate these feelings

I'm very worried about people on here. I don't know if it could be meds as I don't know effects of these, but I do know
effects from mobile phones, WIFI, DECT etc. people here talking about TV, phones, and also waves. I suffer from
Electrosensitivity and get shocks (to me it feels like volts through my head and also feet). Sometimes it's as if a
giant hand has reached in through my body and squeezed my organs. The shocks in my head have been
recorded as spikes in EEG this was when computer was switched on. I experience these with high levels of EMFs.
There are lots of places to get advice Electrosensitivity UK. Or you can look under your country for Electrosensitivity
To help yourselves, switch off your mobile and use a corded phone. Get a cabled computer instead of WIFI. It's
hard for a lot of people to make the connection but pulsed microwave signals disrupt the brain's signals because
they are on the same wavelength even though it is said they are of low power - so are our brain and bodies
frequencies and voltages. Keep Safe.

Hello all - I suffered with electro-shock sensations, along with several other symptoms, for 24 years. I went to numerous doctors and no one could figure out what my symptoms were until I saw a Lyme literate doctor. It turned out that I had Lyme. You may want to be tested for Lyme -- with a Lyme literate doctor only -- if you're not getting any better.
I just googled zapping feeling through my body and have read all the posts - I have been on Pristiq (anti-depressant) since June last year and I've had these feelings ocassionally but today was the worst - and when I went to take my med today I realised I missed my tablet yesterday! So I figure this must be what will happen when I try to come off it. A psychatrist has recommended increasing my dose but I'm now thinking not - if I can manage on this - I have to say the shocks were really painful today and I thought that maybe I had pinched a nerve in my back......... definitely this is a nerve thing related to the medication for me.
My body has trimmer like shock. My arms legs chest feet all jump with the shock. I hate it. It hurts in some ways. Makes me nervous. Keeps me awake at night. I have been sick for quite a few years, but missing my sleep because of this. I also noticed. I have breast milk. I haven't had a period in some time months now. Which isn't normal! I had a tubaligation 14 years ago. Bed ridden most of the time. I also take lots of mess. Including anti depressant. I took a pregnancy test. It's negative. Now what. I took 3 test to be exact. Guess I am gonna have to see my doctor again.
Why do I have breast milk? Just had mammogram back 2 months ago it was negative?
Maybe my meds? I just don't know. Hope it stops soon cause now not only do I have the electrical shocks, pain in legs, and decreased life. But waking cause I am drenched in milk?? Getting concerned.
I feel like a freak.
These 'electric shocks' that you are describing may also be result of nerve damage due to an injury. It usually affects people with injuries in cervical area of the spine, because transmission of nerve impulse is interrupted and interpreted by the brain in different way. But consultation with a neurologist (more than one if necessary) is essential to make a proper diagnosis.
I started having the same shocking sensation several months ago. They are happening more frequently now, enough to make me look them up on the internet. I started getting them late at night or when I was trying to sleep, but now they seem to show up when they feel like it. Some of them are strong enough to make a muscle twitch or make my leg jump. I take a variety of medications for my back and knee, at first I suspected the Oxycontin, but remembered this was happening just before I started on it. Very happy to know I'm not the only one going through this.
I had the same feeling for many years-the doctor did MRIs, put me on pain killers, anti depressents, etc....it wasn't until I saw a CHIROPRACTOR that I found I had many things that needed to be adjusted (my neck was hyper extended, I had mild signs of scoliosis (curviture of the spine) and it seemed like I may have sciatica) While I still occasionally feel the shocks, getting adjusted on a weekly basis has calmed this issue down tremendously and WITHOUT medication. I was so sick of feeling medicated all the time, I had to try and it WORKED. I highly encourage everyone to explore this option because a life on meds will only lead to other problems.
