I had the Novasure procedure done in my doctor's office on, of all days, Friday July 13th.  They put me to sleep with Propophol which was nice because I don't do well with general anesthesia.  Anesthesiologist was great, he played soft music, my hand barely bruised at all, it was a great sleep.  I was coming out of it as the doctor and nurses were cleaning me up when it was over.  I came out of it very "perky" apparently and was told that I came out of it much better than most patients.  I had only very mild cramping that day after the procedure, I did as my doctor said and went home, ate if I was hungry, took 3 Motrin and took a two and a half hour nap.  I felt great.  I had bleeding initially that day, and it has progressively gotten lighter, pink, brownish watery, which is what I was told would happen.  It comes and goes some days and I wear just an Always panty liner.  I don't notice any odor whatsoever.  I don't hold out any hope of NOT having a period after this, I don't have that kind of luck.  I was supposed to start my period right around the time that I had the procedcure, but it hadn't started by that day.  The doctor takes before and after pictures, she does the dialation, takes the picture of the "pretty pink cave", then the D&C, and then the ablation, then takes a picture of the "pretty white cave" and clean up.  She told me to expect the discharge anywhere from 3-6 weeks.  Nothing in the vagina for 10-14 days post-op, no sex either.  By month 3 post-op I should have some idea of what my periods, if any, will be like.  Today is one day shy of a week post-op and the discharge is just light watery brown, sometimes pink on the toilet tissue.  I have no cramping but I do feel bloated in the abdominal area, that could just be me.  I have a condition called adenomyosis wehre the endometrium grows into and through the muscle wall of the uterus causing severe bleeding, cramping, anemia, etc.  I'm 48 and had 3 rather large babies naturally (9, 8.3, 10.6).  The condition is predominant in women who've had pregnancies, could be caused by damage to the uterus during pregnancy or delivery or with a C-section.  Used to be the only treatment for it was hysterectomy.  I am hoping to avoid the hysterectomy by having had this ablation done.  I hope it works and that all the discharge goes away, and if I have a period, I hope it's not the hemorrhagic bleeding that I used to have with the cramps that would bring a horse to her knees.  It was ruining my life for years.  BTW, the doctor who did my ablation was a new doctor that I had started going to because of the bleeding issues.  My original GYN didn't seem to be taking my concerns seriously and was too busy seeing pregnant women and delivering babies to worry about me leaving bloody puddles in my home.  The new doctor took charge of the situation, and I'm very thankful for that.  Will post back in a couple of months and let you know how I'm progressing.

I had my procedure in march 2012. I was actually on a cycle when I had the procedure. because of my previous pregnancy sterilization- essure- i needed the hot thermal procedure. all went well and has normal discharge as expected. in may, June, July and August- I've had light periods which hve lasted about a week, and have to wear my OBs with a panty liner for overflow! when it's not pink, it's clear. on my 'off' weeks-(is there really an off week?!?!!) I hve such large amount of clear water discharge, I still hve to wear an OB!! omg.. it's annoying, and I'm just at a loss of what to do or expect in thr months to follow. it feels like I wet myself, when in reality it's like my Vaj is a water faucet. talked to my obgyn - and an told to be patient that the discharge will stop. uh... it's been 5.5 months, I wear a tampon almost every day, liners at night, havent had sex in months, and wear black all the time for fear of staining my clothes. if I do happen to be light one day and not wear a tampon, I worry all day that I will leak and be embarrassed. omg... I feel like I want to rip out my ovaries and uterus myself. just kidding, but it's very frustrating. I'm unsure about a hysterectomy but I feel like that's my next step in getting and controlling my life again.

I'm having the cryoablation done thrusday, I'm scared from reading these stories.  My husband is already complaing about having to abstain from sex, how long do you have too, because he gets very moody and unbearable.  I want a hysterectomy due to my grandmother dieing of uterine cancer, I don't need this organ anymore, but my doctor says I don't qualify for it since my periods are just irregular and heavy, I'm not anemic yet.  I'm just tired of not knowing when I'll start anywhere from 16 to 37 days between periods, and they are heavy for 5 days.  I only know 2 people who have had it done, one had terrific results and one didn't, one had the laser and one had the thermo.

I had this procedure done nearly 3 weeks ago. The only day that the cramping was nearly unbearable was the day of, but the next day I woke up feeling fine just tired, I slept for 2 days nearly solid after having it done. I had a period that lasted 2 days w/i a week and that's great as mine never lasted that short of time. However, since then I've had irritating discharge and the smell is horrible. I've been married for over 12 years and normally not embarassed to be close to my husband but I don't want him to come within 100 feet of me as I feel as if I smell like a dead animal. I'm just hopeful the smell and the discharge will discipate soon, although my post op paperwork says 1-2 weeks, that's clearly not true by my own experience and comments on this blog.

I was diagnosed with adenomyosis too. I had the Novasure, and Myosure to remove a small polyp; both were done the same day. It's been 2 1/2 months and I'm stil having the watery to light red discharge and my periods (although light) have lasted 10-21 days; a week has passed and now I'm about to start my third cycle since my procedures. I've noticed after and when my cycle is about to start when I go to the restroom to urinate there's a small amount of scar tissue or something left in the toilet( clear or red) and if I strain to have a bowl movement I have really bad cramps (this is not even during my cycle) - have you or anyone else experienced this?! It's been a horrible process. My doctor said that my uterus was too large - so she was only able to do a partitial Novosure ablation thus I will still have periods. The cost was $22,000 and two weeks of medical leave; now I fear that I will have to have the hysterectomy my doctor suggested! I should have listened but I'm going to wait at least 6 months to see if these procedures work before I do. If so, I'm going to opt for a full hysterectomy because I've read that with a partitial one after a year of a most people have had complications and had to return for a full one. I' was experiencing embarrassing painful periods and heavy blood clots for years now after the procedure it's this watery discharge that my doctor didn't disclose to me and proscribed medication for a bacteria infection; in which i just requested a refiill on because im still having the discharge -until reading these posts I now know that it's expected and the nasty medication is not going to work - ugh! I just want relief! I'm happy that I as of now I have light periods but its all been non stop between periods and watery discharge. I just want it to end!

I'm also having headaches daily since the procedures and have minimal cramps. I wondering if anyone else is experiencing the same symptoms. My doctor asked me to give it three months before making the decision to have hysto but maybe I should wait a little longer because I close to 3 months now!

Hi there,
I had the ablation done on 20th July 2012, the first period after was good, fairly light not having to go to the toilet every 45mins. Since then they are gradually getting back to what they were before i had the operation, starting to get large clots again and very heavy, but the worst thing is the watery yellow coloured discharge that just won't stop, I was told to expect it for a few weeks after, it has now been over 12 weeks and no sign of letting up at all, go through tampons and panty liners every day, it annoys the hell out of me. Quite embarrasing having to go to bed every night wearing pads when the boyfriend wants sex, I hate it and wish it would stop. Its like having a period everyday for the rest of your life cause you still have to wear pads every day. And now the periods are coming back to just as heavy as they were before, but now I've got an extra discharge to deal with, not good

I had mine done 11/1/2012, and was NEVER informed about this watery stuff. But I soon realized it was my bladder has got knicked during the procedure. I move, cough, laugh or anything and Im leaking. It is embarassing. I stay home most of the time. I have to go see a doctor about my bladder now!

I had the Novasure ablation on 11/29/2012. I also had hysteroscopy, polypectomy, and D&C done at the same time. I had minor cramping when I woke up in the recovery room. After that, I had zero pain. I didn't need any pain meds post-op. I did feel bloated for a while and that was annoying. I only took two days off work (day of surgery and the day after).

One week post-op, I ran eight miles and experienced some bleeding but my doctor said that's about the time the "scab" falls off and it's normal. I do have some discharge but it doesn't smell.  I'd rather have a little bit of discharge that necessitates nothing more than a panty liner than the heavy, heavy clot-filled periods that soaked a pad every 45 minutes.  I should have had my period a week ago and all I got was a little pink on the toilet tissue when I wiped after peeing.  I hope this success continues!

People tend to reply only if they've had a negative experience so I thought I'd post to let women know it's not all bad.

This is the challenge presented with the aftermath of ablation.  1.  The physician hears about the distress of women with heavy periods and conveys that the ablation will amieloriate the heavy bleeding--and for the most part, it does.  But, I can't help but sometimes conclude that physicians are oblivious and completely insensitive to idea that women, while relieved to not have to suffer through heavy bleeding and the attendant consequences of that, still do not want to have to endure a daily discharge.  The physicians understate how long the discharge will continue after ablation.  It can last for up to 12 months!!!  I am two months with a very, very light discharge--but annoying never the less.  I am hoping that it stops within the next 2 to 3 months.  Keep hope alive!

So glad to see your post - Know I know I am not alone. It will be 10 weeks tomorrow since my abaltion and I have to wear a pad every day. It really sucks. I haven't called my doctor yet but I am going to give it 2 more weeks.

I had my procedure on April 2nd, 2013 . Today is April 16th and 5 days ago i had noticed the odor as well as my children, YEAH embarrassing after leaving the restroom. I noticed that the leakage is not coming from the vaginal area it is pink urine!  Whenever my bladder obviously starts to fill i leak. I went to the doctor for a check on this he tells me it might be a UTI, well leaking all day is not part of that and nor is the odor, again, more antibiotics which has caused Yeast infections making more problems.. This is so very aggravating and embarrassing ! He hasn't listened to me when i tell him and looked at me cockeyed when i said it is URINE not vaginal discharge!!   I am not going on like this. I knew i shouldn't have done this procedure FAIL FAIL!  More problems than before!  Tomorrow i go to my primary to see if i can get this resolved since my OB won't listen! THis is not normal!  I hope someone else here has gotten answers!

I had this procedure done 7/10/13, the surgery was seamless, one and a half days of alternating tylenol & ibuprofen.  Stopped bleeding almost IMMEDIATELY - only the size of a quarter.  I have 10 days of the clear watery discharge and have heard from several that it lasts up to six weeks.  Three ladies I know very well are VERY happy with their results of the procedure and it's been several years for them.  I hope that helps, I had the procedure on their high recommendation.
