I just had my mammogram and like many posts, I have had extreme pain in my right breast and enlarged lymph nodes. after reading some of these posts, I hope this doesn't hurt for a year, even the pain pills do not work. the doctor said it was inflammation. unfortunately I can't take antiinflammatories (ibuprofen, motrin, etc), so I have to suffer. I have been getting mammograms since I was 28 years old and this is a first for me. I am now 68 years old and this is the last one for me.
I had a mammogram last week that was extremely painful made me pass out and brought on an attack of my IBS ( i still feel rotten a week later) having researched have found that I am far from being the only one! apparently a mammogram can bring on amongst other things a vasevagel attack from the chest compression making you feel faint. I am left wondering why women can't have a alternative form of screening, i am sure men wouldn't put up with this !!!
Hi, I just read your post and I am experiencing the same thing. Do you have implants? Did you ever find out what the damage was to your chest?
I think it's ludicrous that you can't even spell experience and you're bragging about all of your experience. You can't spell breast either. Shame on you.
My right breast still hurts over a year now. The Tech went into her little room and pressed the button to auto the first smash. I was 54 and think she smashed for the age. Left breast she went a little easier and it does not hurt as much nevertheless she stilll did smash auto instead of crank to the complete mash like a different tech usually does. I am here to get information so I can make my complaint count because no one seems to think this actually happened. I am about 4 months overdue now on my yearly exam .... there is not a day that has gone by since the 'mash' that I haven't had some form of discomfort.
Hey, I understand what you are saying but you too are being insensitive. Their are ultrasounds and other techniques they won't ok instead of the mammogram which is beyond painful. I have a pap every year which is painful and I've had cysts on my ovaries which, again, painful. I've had migraines and have even hit my heat on the corner of a locker causing it to bleed but nothing was ever as bad a a mammogram. The lady at the testing site tried to squeeze my breasts until they were flat. I'm a 40DD with a wide back and squeezing my breast until they were almost as flat as my hands palm down was unbearable. It was cruel and I was actually screaming in pain in the examining room and the woman continued to press the clamp harder and harder on me. What am I suppose to do? How am I suppose to feel.? You have men that get breast cancer and they don't talk about screening them. When they do then they will make it less painful for us.
I have to reply because at 55 years old, after many years of mammograms, I had my most painful one ever. My tech was very clinical in her response to my weeping. I will never get another one in my lifetime no matter what. As for taking a "clearer picture", the only thing clear it that it's a lie because after going through all that pain and only getting 3 or 4 shots because I couldn't take the pain anymore, I'm now being called in for an ultrasound because the pictures were "blurry".
The "clearer picture" response is clearly a lie. I just had a mammogram so painful I did not get through all 4 shots, just 3. I was openly weeping and will never have one again. A week later they call me for an ultrasound because the images were blurry. Needless pain is all it is.
This fall I had a very similar experience, the test(s) and the aftermath of pain and change of breast shape. I thought I was misreading or overreacting. Thanks for sharing.
I am feeling some serious pain after my mammo three weeks ago. The mammo was normal but the pain is awful. My nipples are extremely tender. i wish I could find out when this is going to stop. I have been searching the internet for answers but all I see is that the pain is a necessary evil. I have trouble beleiving that. I don't want to get another one after this experience. I have large 36 G breasts and am post menopausal. I wish there was something more than just deal with it about this.
Years ago, maybe 15 to 18 I had a mammogram which I have hurt from ever since. This was back in the days when the machine did not release automatically after the scan was made. The technician had to come around and step on a foot pedal to release it. She stepped on the wrong one and compressed my left breast even harder. I jerked and after that had a red mark for several days and pain. This pain subsided and came and went during the years due to bras not fitting and when I was younger, menstrual times. As I have aged and my breast have become less dense and started sagging. I could tell when I was wearing a bra that did not give me as much support as I needed, as I would ache in my left breast. About 10 years ago, they thought they saw "something" and then with further testing decided it was nothing. Two years ago I moved to a new city and a new doctor and new radiation department. Last month I had a mammogram which they reported as seeing "something" in my left breast. I told them my story. Then they ordered another mamm and then a followup ultrasound. That technician was very thorough with the ultrasound and kept going back into that area. That breast hurt for days afterwards. Now they have decided since they cannot feel what the test "saw" I'm to have a wire guided breast biopsy after the first of the year. What do I do? If I don't have this and I have cancer then I'll feel stupid. But I really and truly think all this is related to my injury. I was so stupid and did not report this at the time. But my left breast has been very sensitive since this happened. I did go yesterday and spent a boatload of money on proper fitting bras. Hopefully this will help my breast if it is muscle damage to heal.
I've been having yearly mammograms over 20 years, but this last one may have been MY LAST as well, or at least I will never use the same technician. I was in severe pain for days, and it showed in my blood pressure being elevated when I saw my doctor the next day. Stormtrooper techs are discouraging. Put YOUR most sensitive tissue into a vice and apply maximum pressure. No thanks.
I have fibrosistic breasts and I really thought the mammograms (only two) were brutally painfull and did irrepairable damage to my breasts. Now they want to do a core biopsy and never said what kind just all the time I would have to be with ice on my chest, not able to work and 14 days before I can take a bath so I assumed since I was not told what type of biopsy that there are alternatives and less invasive and debilitating. I now have pains in my rib sometimes a dull pain now and then around my arm and shoulder sometimes and a rather sharper pain and a two lumps swollen into my nipple that I never had before like this. I am assuming when and if some of the swelling finally subsides that these symptoms will mostly vanish someday. I will never get another mammogram it is barbaric and since it seems the area in question is an are with a lump I have had for 29 years that my breast can be looked at and biopsied in a different less invasive and debilitating manner. When they did my right breast it was smashed so hard and hurt so much I thought I was passing out. Then to top it off they informed me that they would not be removing the lump that I have had so long and want out just more painfull debilitating tests and joblessness for nothing unless it is cancer. I will be seeking out another opinion with out all the smashing and pain and bleeding and problems.
maybe you havent been sexually abused maybe you havent been embarased with pictures taken of you as a kid when i feel pain i blackout and i am told i have strength unimaginable im supposed to go for a spot compression im done with doctor procedures and what they guessing since any doctor stuff is still a science not a definite and no way would i ever et a biopsy awake im not puttingmy mind thru anymore tramua then i have to
I hope you are feeling better. I had two mammograms and I had a hard lump that part of it seems gone from where it was for over 20 years and moved towards my nipple with a development of a new lump into my nipple area and it does hurt still especially when I lift or push on things for work or in life. I will never have another one of these barbaric tests done again. Now they seem to want to compress by breast again a third time and stick a needle in my most sensitive sore nipple to numb it and poke in with a fat needle and cut samples. I hate to say it but I will not let them hurt and damage my breasts further. I had nodules and lumps all my life and they do not just hurt monthly but also hurt get larger and sometimes do not go back to the smaller way they were when they are injured. Looking for changes! Of course there is a change when being compressed so very too hard and then they want to do more damages. Injury causes changes calcifications and sometimes it is months or all my life that I have an injured lump that never goes back to the smaller more manageable size. Then they refuse to take it out unless it is cancer and I have to work and live with this. For years my mate urged me to go in and see what it is with this large lump and pain I would experience and even with smaller nodules and so I did. I am very sorry I did. They scare you that you may have cancer so you will go through fire to be certain you don't. This mammogram pain is suppose to go away in a few mininutes! HA HA HA HA! I can not believe they even say this. For some women the pain goes away in a few minutes not all women. Unfortunately they do not explain all this or tell you alternatives. I will not ever let them smash my breasts again. How about being more messed up for years? It is barbaric and there should be other less invasive more accurate tests in this modern civilized world for us women and girls that have breast issues. You may have hurt your ribs or back or something and this pain is radiating into your breast area and or you have fibrocystic breasts as I do and no it is not unusual to get some discomfort or pain coming into areas that you would think would be ok. I get some pain in my shoulder and under my arm and it just depends what swelling and what nerves are kicking. I had lumps nodules years ago not just in my breasts but in my ankles my feet and they were all swollen and painfull. There were so many that when they were suppose to count them they got to a hundred or so on one foot and ankle and stopped. Did my breasts have nodules and hurt -- sure they did and they did nothing for me and sent me back to work. I could not understand why they did not have anything for me to help me. Truth is they do not really have anything to help you really. I am exploring other less invasive and less barbaric options to determine if there is anything further that really needs done. People who do not feel what you are feeling have no way of knowing how you really feel or why. Don't let them tell you that you do not hurt when you do. They said take Tylenol. HA HA HA! Does nothing for me.
