so, i'm not usually a hypochondriac or anything.. but i fear something is wrong. lately (in the last month or so) when i drink alcohol i experience severe stomach pain.. like horrendous gnawing, churning, mouth wateringly bad pain. accompanied with nausea, serious bloating, gas, and tonight after having one glass of white whine my pain and nausea were so bad i vomited. it wasn't consistent, every time i drank, up until the last two weeks and now it has been every time i drink any amount of alcohol. (which obvi isn't very much when i am in pain, heh) I have never had any aversion like this to alcohol. I am 21. i don't drink very heavily. frequently though. other than being an extreme good time killer (tonight was one of my best friends birthdays, would have liked to have been able to have more than one drink at the bar, ey. and not go home clutching my stomach in tears! woe! agony! i am not cut out for this enjoyment of alcohol and good timery thingy that is going on, bye folks!) it's very painful. anyway, hmm.. 21, i think i am generally healthy, in good shape, eat very healthily, no medical issues. i have no idea what can be causing this.... :-( the pain is also always located upper abdomen..under my sternum pretty much.
hey, i think its scary how our two stories are alike. the same thing happens to me and i want to know what it is!!!

why don't you just visit your doctor? I think that this would give you a couple of answers that you wanted to know. why you have a chest pain after drinking alcohol, well it is more likely that you don't tolerate alcohol, but who can tell better than your doc?

anyway, it is very easy to explain - alcohol irritates your digestive system and you should quit drinking alcohol. generally, I believe that drinking alcohol is making your stomach to produce more acid than usual. When this happens, it usually can cause gastritis and it can lead to this discomfort.

I have been having the same thing occuring to me. One beer and I am bent over in pain and nausea that night and the next. I never drank too heavily either. A fun night for me is like 5 drinks... now 1 is too much trouble and not even worth it.

Have a friend that went through the same problem of nausea and vomiting after drinking beer for a whole month. He went to the doctor several times but they kept sending home, telling him it was a virus. He finally seen a different doctor and found out he had appendicitis. They did an appendectomy on him and that cured his problem.

Yes I have been experiencing pretty much the same problems.
I conducted a thorough medical examination and the doctor concluded on a 'slightly' irritated stomach with some reflux issues.
We have probably developed alcohol intolerance over the years, so I am afraid you guys have to stop consuming it...

I know this post is old, but in case anyone else stumbles upon it while searching about stomach problems, I thought I would add some info. I am also having a similar problem - pain in the entire stomach region after even a sip of wine.

Alcohol is a big stomach irritant, so I am guessing what happened is likely that for some reason, our stomachs got irritated to begin with (maybe a virus or something) and then the alcohol keeps re-injuring it. I know that my problem started with a stomach virus - and even though the virus is long gone I still have trouble with alcohol. My doctor recommended a diet that is not greasy, spicy, and does not have lactose in it in order to let my stomach heal. I have been on the diet for a few weeks now and I am getting much better. (The diet is called the brat diet for all you moms out there).

Hell, a lot of times your body's just not in the mood to drink. If your stomach appears to be rejecting its contents, don't try to force it! That's just how you make yourself sick and pour a lot of your alcohol into the toilet or all over your mother's basement floor. I ususally to be able to drink a whole sh*t load, pretty much every day. But anymore, my body knows what it's capable of doing to me and from time to time I can't take a swig of beer without gagging to save my life. It usually passes after taking a break for a few days. Some people just naturally develop intolerance to booze.

it might be the gluten in the alcohol. i too had bad bloating, sometimes severe stomach, pain after drinking. i have also had bad gas. if it is a grain alcohol, there may be gluten in it. it happens when i drink wine too. i recently went on a gluten free diet, and am doing so much better. i have been checking internally, and have zero ulcers.

I too used to not be able to drink anything other than wine or beer. Even a small sip of anything would cause extreme pain and usually throwing up. I had some rare form of appendicitis in April of this year. After having my appendix removed I can now drink mixed drinks. Finally at the age of 31 I can enjoy a mixed drink!

It took me 38 years to realize that I am allergic to barley. No beer, scotch, whiskey or other foods containing barley. Worst enemy is white bread, beef (fed with barley), light beers.

THIS IS MY PROBLEM! WHENEVER I DRINK A MIXED DRINK I GET THIS HORRIBLE STOMACH ACHE FOR ABOUT 15 TO 20 MIN. I'M NOT A HEAVY DRINKER SO I HAVE NO IDEA WHERE IT'S COMING FROM. THE PAIN IS SO EXTENSIVE I FEEL IT IN MY SHOULDER BLADES. IT HAPPENS RANDOMLY!

For about 6 months now I have been going through this same thing. I have tried beer, different mixed drinks, eating before I drink. I'm thinking it may be an interaction with the medication I'm on. Is anyone else having this problem that is on Wellbutrin Xl or Effexor XR? I also use Dollar General Brand Sleep Aid.....
