Try to stay away from high fructose corn syrup. Turns out I am allergic to it. My entire problems have gone away. Pepsi and mountain dew have some out that says made with real sugar thank God they are wonderful. Look at labels of everything. Even Oreo cookies has it.

I too have had this for over a year now. I'll get pain and a bulge under right side of rib when staining eg bending over or pulling something while bending. What I've found out is we women have a third rib that actually floats under our main rib. When we over stretch this area it's the muscles that push on this rib and causes the bulge/lump so once the muscle settles down so will the pain I find aleve/naproxen works well for both symptoms. Hope this helps some of you. Ps. I am not over weight but a little on the thin side and very active so weight does not factor into this problem. Just use caution while bending sometimes I'll support this area with my left hand also small crunches help strengthen this muscles. Take care all.

Costochondritis doesn't last 3 years. I struggled that long before pin pointing High Fructose Corn syrup. My son had costo and the symptoms are different and usually come on from violent coughing.

I've had 2 ERCPs - if you have this condition try avoid this step (can make things worse)
Being put on a FODMAP diet has helped me a lot

I have the same feeling like it's a Charlie horse under my right ribs when I bend over too. My liver enzymes were slightly elevated. I went for an ultrasound which showed I have fatty liver as well. I'm not overweight but I do have Crohn's Disease, but I've had CD for over 30 yrs. so it's not due to that. The doctor didn't think it was anything serious, but it's making me very nervous. He said if it continues he will order a CT Scan. The pain is minimal but the Charlie horse feeling is a weird feeling. If I find anything out I'll report back. I was surprised how many people have the same thing. FYI my doctor said, 1 out of 3 people have fatty liver.

I'm from Fiji and sometimes suffer from these symptoms. Old women folk refer this as the 'belt' effect, as it radiates to your back along a line. Funny enough, the only way to get rid of it is through massaging along the rib line from sternum to mid axilla. You'll actually feel the lump moving. It is rather painful, but it'll get the job done. It needs to be repeated three times. Hope this helps.

Anyone asked to be opened up to check out the area of pain as nobody can give any definitive answers to this condition. I know this appears to be quite brutal but I want an answer !!!!

As for the catching feeling under the ribs, I have diagnosed myself after reading the other posts. I noticed that many of us have autoimmune diseases. Autoimmune diseases cause inflammation. Inflammation does not show up on imaging tests, as many of us found out. I would like to confirm my suspicions-To do that, I would like all of you to ask your doctor to check your sed rate for inflammation. Let us know how it came out, because the feeling always seems to happen when I am having inflammation. My sed rate was through the roof.

Me again! To the person that says Tumeric has helped. Tumeric is used for inflammation. Also, someone said stay away from fructose syrup-Stay away from all sugars as much as possible; sugars increase inflammation.

Some of these comments sound like slipped rib syndrome, in which weakened ligaments allow a lower rib to slip over or under the adjacent one, causing pain. (I get this when bending over, e.g. tying shoes)
