While this problem can be caused by several issues, the most common is simply dryness and irritation. Men with an intact foreskin may experience this problem as a result of masturbation, not to mention spermicides, sensitivity to chemicals in soaps and other cleansers, and rubbing against clothing. Washing with a gentle cleanser, wearing silky, breathable underwear and using a penis health cream containing skin-soothing emollients (health professionals recommend Man 1 Man Oil) may help to restore the skin to its youthful condition.

Good luck!

It sounds like a yeast infection........and yes, I guess guys can get it too!! I got mine from my GF shortly after her period.  Keep it clean, and try not to irritate it. Ie: Have sex or masterbate........I know it sucks, but it will clear up.

Hey, I have breakthrough.

It seems like a number of guys have experienced this. The general idea is this is "Yeast" related. I've had like 4-5 flare ups of this in the last year. You get multiple cracks on your shaft, and it gets Damm painful!...It SUCKS! You might use an anti yeast cream, and I would suggest triple antibiotic cream with pain re-leaver. BUT even using these, it still seems to come back after a month or so once my penis is healed.

LISTEN UP!!!!!

By accident I ran across an article explaining the Listerine Mouthwash can heal a number of skin issues. Warts ect....So.....When the first new crack showed up on my shaft, I broke out the original formula Listerine (brown in color) and applied some cut 50/50 with water to my penis. I just cupped my hand, mixed up the mixture and applied liberally all over my penis. Now it did sting slightly, but just for a minute, and that FAR out weighs the pain you feel when this thing gets out of hand, and Im sure you guys know what Im talking about.

Its been 3 days, and I repeat this process twice a day, and Ive kept things to one small crack and its healing fast!

This has given me the most hope yet. And I can manage this no problem and still have some what of a regular sex life at this pace.

So, I Highly recommend any of you guys who are going through this to give it a try. Now I just use straight Listerine, but mixing it at first I think helps.

I hope this helps you guys the way its helped me. Sadly the doctors can only offer anti-fungles and some ointment cream. It seems to me none of these options work to fast, and the Listerine did!

Good luck and pass this along!

Try "CLOTRIMAZOLE-BETAMETHASONE CRM " this medicine is an anti fungal and corticosteroid combination used to treat skin infection. It also relieves redness and itching associated with infractions. My husband has the same problem so we went to the doctor and all the test came out clear from infection or yeast but this Medicine seem to work on my husband.  It stop hurting and bleeding after the second use.  Good luck to you I feel for you.

My bf had the same thing. He was given anti fungal cream. If its not better by next week, he may need to be circumcised. I suggest you go to the doctor. It looks unnatractive and lifes to short to wonder about if your cocks going to drop off. Seriously though, its actually quite common, and if you have it you were born with it. My partners nephew also got it as a baby so its quite possibly genetic. Hope that helps. :)

It is possibly a condition called Balanoposthitis. Google it and see if that is similar to your issues.

Hi Alekz: If you want more shaft skin to take up for the fatty pad that you are losing, then you can create more skin by tissue expansion. If skin is kept under tension, it will try to relieve the tension by growing new skin cells and expanding. If you Google "foreskin restoration", you will find heaps of information on expanding your residual shaft skin. It is somewhat of a slow process so start soon to get ahead of your weight loss.

Red, sore and itchy penisIf the head of your penis (glans) is inflamed, you have balanitis. This is a Greek word meaning ‘inflammation of the acorn’. Balanitis usually looks more worrying than it is.It may simply be a hygiene problem. If you do not wash under the foreskin, a cheesy material, called smegma, accumulates. This can become infected and cause irritation. The solution is to wash carefully with warm water to which you have added enough kitchen salt to make it taste like seawater. In part 1 of Dr Phil Hammond's penis trilogy, he discusses the head of the penis and foreskin, and how to keep it clean. Click on the video below to find out more.A milder form of balanitis can appear soon after intercourse, but disappears within about a day. This is probably caused by allergy to thrush in your partner’s vagina. If she is treated the problem will usually go.Balanitis can sometimes be caused by a skin disease, such as psoriasis. Psoriasis can occur on the penis without you having it anywhere else. On the glans, it looks red and shiny (unlike on other parts of the body where it is silvery and scaly). In this situation antifungal treatment will not have any effect, but your doctor can prescribe a steroid cream.Check your soaps and shower gels. Balanitis can sometimes be a sensitivity to perfumes in soaps and detergents. Never put disinfectant in the bath, as this can be very irritating. If your penis is swollen, intensely itchy and very red, you probably have thrush (also known as Candida, a yeast). Occasionally this can be the first sign of diabetes, so check with your doctor. It is cured with antifungal cream or tablets. What to do about balanitisChange to a simple, unperfumed soap. Alternatively, buy ‘aqueous cream’ from a pharmacy and use it as body-wash cream (i.e. apply a small amount and rinse off).Put two handfuls of salt in the bath, but no other additives (no bubble bath, no bath oils, no disinfectants)Do not use ‘biological’ or ‘enzyme’ powders when washing your underpantsAsk your partner to visit her doctor or a genitourinary medicine clinic to check for thrush(especially if your balanitis occurs after sex)See your doctor – if your balanitis is severe, ask for a diabetes check; if anti-thrush treatment does not work, ask your doctor if it could be psoriasis.

Stop applying soap thre ss the skin thre might be dry and can crack during winter or due to rigorous shagging. I used to have cracks once a month 7 years back. I stopped aplying soap on doctors suggestion and have not got any crack since 7 years.

I've had this problem a few times. My girlfriend is to blame here with her recurrent thrush problem. A cream designed to treat thrush does the trick for me. Probably any anti fungal would do.

Had this problem for over a month now. Doctor said use hydrocortisone Cream for the inflammation, miconazole cream to fight the likely yeast infection that started it, then polysporin to to help with healing. Mixed them all together slapped it on liberally ate lots of probiotic yogurt to restore the good bacteria. Been 3 days no symptoms left. However don't use the hydrocortisone for more than 7days continued use will thin your skin apparently. Good luck

Candidiasis or thrush is the name for a yeast infection.

You may try to treat it at home by:

1. Washing the area.
2. Drying the area thoroughly.
3. Applying Monistat or athlete's foot cream containing clotrimazole.
