The same thing happend last year to my 6 year old daughter now then 5 years old. i took her to the doctor because her finger and toe nails all fell off at the cuticule same as the very first post. They all treated her like a freak show taking turns to see. No one had an answer for us as to why is this happening to her. all new nails grew in place of the old ones. but a month before that she had an itchy rash on her hands and feet. again skin was peeling once rash healed but they called that hand foot mouth deases which she did not have any rash in her mouth. please let me know if this is a concern. about her nails and toe nails falling off!
I have apread it can be caused by aftermath of strep, hyperthyroidism, or abnormal absorption of certain vitamins/minerals, IDK will see...I will continue to post updates. doc appt tomorrow
I'm a teenager (17) I got HFM over the summer, and my nails just started showing lines in them October. One has fallen off. All the other cases say the nails will begin to fall within a month of getting the disease, but maybe because I'm older it took longer. I had the rash for a longer time then smaller children as well.
My 5 year old sons fingernails are doing the same thing. Have you found any answers as to why this is happening?? My doctor said it could be from stress. I dont believe so.
If your daughter's skin blistered it could be SJS/TEN. I recently suffered from SJS/TEN two months ago. I had taken bactrim for bronchitis & I broke out in a rash so I went to the hospital. my skin blistered & fell off it was really painful. the doctors said my hair could fall out & my nails could fall off as well. I am home now & I no longer have any rashes or blister but my nails have been loosed & hurt. I cut them short & keep nail hardener on the to try & save my nails. It looks as if my nail has bubbled & is raised as if I had fake nails on but where they have grown out they are coming loose from the back of my nail. I actually super glue one nail because if was coming off from the back by the cuticle. I can't scratch my body because when I try it feels like the will come off . They feel as if I had smashed all my fingers in a door or something. I hope this is helpful in any way. I'm trying to find out why my nails are going to come off & are they going to grow back.
I AM LOOKING FOR AN ANSWER TO THIS PROBLEM AND DO NOT KNOW THE ANSWER. MY GRANDCHILD IS LOOSING HER FINGERNAILS AND I AM TERRIFIED. I NEED HELP!!!!
I am having the same issue. My 4yr old daughter has lost two toenails already and there are three finger nails that are starting to lift now. She did have an all over foot peel a few weeks ago, but nothing on her hands or mouth so I really don't know if it was foot, hands and mouth. My daughter was born with a three really nasty thick toenails on her feet, two out of those three have fallen off but the weird thing is, there is a brand new nail waiting underneath. I had assumed that it had something to do with her thick nails. Since then, her fingernails on her hand (which have always been normal) have started to lift. There has been no bleeding or weeping but the nail is breaking off at the cuticle. For her fingers nails it started off looking like an air bubble was stuck under her nail and it's been getting larger, until now you can see where the nail has been cut of from the cuticle area. I'm going to be taking her to a Dermatologist, but in the mean time I can't help but freak out.. I've never heard or seen anything like this until reading this forum.
about two weeks ago half of my daughter's pre k class was out with fevers from 99 and as high as my daughter's got up to 103.4( yeah we were in the ER for a while) she missed a whole week of school. a week after that i went to clip her nails and half of one of her finger nails peeled right off. all the way down. there was no redness or swelling, no signs of trauma and she said she didn't hurt it. i shrugged it off, maybe she forgot hurting it. a couple days later the rest of the nail followed. now a week later, two more finger nails have worked off and 3 toenails are starting to crack from the bottom. my biggest concern really is that the rate the toenails are cracking and the shoes she wears at school, dirt is going to get trapped and her toes are going to get infected. does anyone have treatment for these yet so we can stop them. make them go away.
Have your doctor check to see if Foot and Mouth disease could be the culprite, especially in the very young. My granddaughter had it and the nails started falling off long after the virus symptoms were were no longer evident. They did grow back. Now she is 4 years old and caught the virus again and I really hope she won't lose them again.
My son has the same problem the doctors are telling me that this is normal I think not did anyone find out anything on this subject?
