I caught impetigo from my 18 month old grandson, his nails came off about a month later as did my two index finger nails, there is a nail underneath but it is very uncomfortable and needs a plaster on until it grows up and off as catching it is painful.

My 20 montj old grandson and 5 yr old grandaughters did this adter they contacted Hand Foot Mouth disease. I lookwd it up n its normal.
My daughter is seven adage has recently had the HFMD along with her two brothers. Now, she is losing her fingernails at the cuticle. I feel much better after reading these comments and being able to piece everything together. I am taking her to the doctor anyways, but at east now I am not so panicked.

When googled it refers to hand feet n mouth desease...pls research n get a second opinion. Doctors today dont seem to care to take the extra step anymore to rule out any other probabilities its that to me is so sad.
Its usually happens after Hand foot mouth disease.
This is by far the most reassuring post i've read since looking up a reason as to why my son's nails are falling off, thank you. He also had hand foot and mouth about a month ago and the skin on his feet started to peel off last week and then this week i've noticed the nail is darker at the bottom of the nail and are actually coming off from that end of the toe! I had completely forgotten about the hand foot and mouth! Kinda makes sense now!
Im sorry but that sounds like the stupidest thing I ever heard. Im no doctor but come on people.
I believe it's hand foot and mouth virus. My daughter had the same thing twice , the second time it was really bad peeling a lot with think skin falling off her toes and fingers. Poor sweetly it got her this time. I wonder what the caused of this virus are. Twice was little baffling in few months apart. Her brother started preschool and shortly he got it and then she got it. If anyone knows a bit more about this virus plz bing. Thanks and God bless all moms and dads!

I know this is late but my 4 year old daughter is going through the same. First her toes started peeling bad; that stopped and now her toenails and fingernails are coming off at the cuticle.
I took her to the doctor while her toes were peeling and the pediatrician thought it was just dried skin.Now I'm really worried about her nails.

My daughter has the same problem. After doing some research it is normal if they had hand, foot, and mouth disease 4 to 10 weeks prior.
Thank you! We have experienced toe nail loss in a 3 year old shortly after Hand, Foot and Mouth.
