Hi I am 17 years old and I had my gallbladder removed 5 months ago. It was the worse experience of my life I started getting sick 6 months after my son was born he is now 14 months old. I was nervous about the surgery though. I had to saty over night because I was so sick. I was sick when I got home until 2 weeks later. And not trying to scare you here but the doctors say oh you will be fine in a couple weeks well maybe for some but not for me or any others I know that had to have this done. I still cant eat any greasy food everything has to be baked. Because I start having this watery diahrea and come to find out this burning water coming from my hiney was bile. Which as a type of body acid. So just think pooping acid OUCH. And my shoulder felt like it was going to pop out of my skin it hurt so bad. I had 15 gall stones and it sucked bc they were inlarged and very painful. I would black out before the surgery and loose my balance but I didnt loose my appetite. I ate different things bc somethings made me sick. The only thing I couldnt keep down was drink.

Two years ago I went into hospital at the age of 14 with severe abdominal pain, the doctors in emergency and the paediatrician who came to see me didn't find anything after x-rays, ultrasounds and blood tests + an over night stay. After a follow up consult with the paediatrician he recommended going to a endocrinologist as he suspected I had Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (which I was later diagnosed with.) A year and a half later at the age of 16, I began to get the same severe, chronic abdominal pain, but I thought it only had to do with me not being consistent with my medication. After a few months the pain got even worse and had the pain almost once a week which only occurred at night after a large dinner. I went to my GP and being the best doctor I know straight away suspected gallstones especially since both my grandmother and aunty had both had gallstones and had their gallbladders removed, my doctor asked me to get an ultrasound. Two days after seeing my GP, at 2am my mother took me straight to the hospital where I was given painkillers and waited until the pain had subsided, the doctor in emergency (who didn't trust or believe me) said it was unlikely I had gallstones because I didn't have the symptoms of back pain and nausea, I was then sent home with a referral for an ultrasound for the next morning. I went for the ultrasound and a gallstone with the diameter of 3cm was found. That day I went straight to my GP where she referred me to a surgeon. After seeing the surgeon he straight away booked me in a week later for a laparoscopic ('keyhole') cholecystectomy for the removal of my gallbladder. It's 2 days until my surgery and I can't wait until I am rid of this awful pain!!!!!

PS According to my GP and ultrasound technician 98% of all teenagers especially girls who come in with severe abdominal pain have gallstones or gallbladder inflammation and end up having their gallbladders removed.

It seems that I have always had some degree of digestive problems throughout my life, but nothing too noticable, and really nothing painful. I also pretty much NEVER get sick. Last year I started getting stomach pains and a few weeks later had my appendix removed, which was about ready to burst. I haven't been sick since then until a few days ago, I was at school and at about 1:15 my stomach started hurting pretty bad. I went to the bathroom and I felt a little better, then it happened again at about 2:30 or so. I thought it was mostly over until I woke up at 6 o'clock in the morning the next day feeling like I had swallowed a blowtorch and it had turned on in my stomach (so basically I had some pretty bad pain coming from my stomach area) I went to the bathroom and the pain went away. Between then and now, I went all of today with a small migrain headache and had some small stomach pains in my Biology class at about 10:00 or so. Nothing since then, but I have been also feeling a little bloated and have been having some indigestion as well as gas. Does this sound like it could be gallbladder to y'all? Because I'm really not looking forward to having to have another surgery anytime soon. ?

My 15 year old had stomach pain last night and this morning when i was asking her about it i realized it is probably her Gall Bladder. We have a HUGE history of problems in the female side of our family... EVERY female in my moms side of the family has had to have theirs out... I was 16, my mother was 19, my sister 24, Aunts, Grandmother, female cousin!!

Because I was sooo young they did a ton of tests on my and told me that we have Pernicious Anemia and one of the symptoms of that is bad gall bladders.

I will be following up on my daughter right away... i went through this 30 years ago almost exactly... i had to go through soooo many tests and months of pain and throwing up... do NOT let them say 'you are too young'... ask about it early and have it checked because it is soooo painful.

I had gall stone attacks almost every week for a year when I was around 14-15 years old. They're not exaggerating when they say it's the most painful thing in the world. Because they don't expect gall bladder disease in young people, it took that long before the doctors figured out what it was. Actually, my GP never figured it out. I finally got fed up and went to an emergency clinic one day and they knew almost right away and sent me to a gastroenterologist who got me into the hospital for surgery within days. When they took my gallbladder out they said if gall stones were diamonds I would have been rich. I'm 22 now and I haven't had any attacks since or any problems because of the surgery, although I've been on Pariet the whole time in order to handle fats due to not having a gall bladder. I definitely recommend the surgery.

I have to have gall bladder surgery and have been miserable for two weeks now with gallbladder attacks and other symptoms. I am concerned that I will see the surgeon and he will not do the surgery for weeks. I am miserable and I have missed a ton of classes (Im a college student) and a lot of work.. and my doctor put me out of school until surgery but I have to be there for finals and I am very concerned that I won't be able to if this surgeon doesn't schedule me asap. Does anyone have any advice? and does anyone know how quickly they normally will schedule the surgery? Thanks!

hello everyone, i am 13 and i just found out yesterday that I have gallstones. I was scared to death, and I still am. I have yet to have it removed but I will soon and we are working on setting up an appointment. my advice to anyone who just found out they had gallstones is to relax. Getting it removed is probally the best thing thing to do (im terrified of surgey!) but it's better than letting things get worse. Don't worry, the doctors know what they are doing :)

Dear all,

I have been going through this Post and my concern is all about my dearest brother. He is 22 and he has no problem with his stomach. BUT he had a thorough Check up while he was joining INDIAN NAVY that he was detedt some POLYPS in his GALL bladder slightly higher than the allotted amount.

Now my major concern is he is been told to remoive the Gall bladder and report to the department in one month or else No job in Navyyyyy....

PLs Guys help me out.!!  now we are confused.. whether to take risk of removing gall bladder just to join NAVY ????

Did your nausea go away? My grandson, 14-1/2, is probably going to have his gall bladder taken out. What symptoms were you experiencing prior to having the surgery? Did these symptoms go away once your gall bladder was removed?

I had to have my Gallbladder removed after suffering months with unstoppable pain in my abdomen, back, legs, and chest. I am only 17 years of age but my gallbladder was eroding inside me and had an "innumerable amount of stones",  along with extreme inflammation. Life is so much better after surgery. No complications, and everything went smoothly. I was out the same day and home to rest. However, Doctors should study up more on Gallbladder attack and disease symptoms. They are quick to rule out somethings that should always be considered. Especially when so many signs and chances are given to do the right thing. Gallbladder surgery is for the best. The payoff of being able to eat food again and not having to starve yourself in fear of being in pain, is quite the privilege. I believe this sort of thing also runs in families  My sister just had to have hers removed as well and she is only 13. Just be careful and be aware. Enjoy being severe pain free. c:

Hiya, I'm twelve years old (thirteen in a couple of days) and for the last week or so I've been feeling quite sick everytime I need to go for 'a number 2'. When I need to go I get a sudden nauseous feeling, not in my stomach, but in my throat. Its as if the vomit just builds up in my throat or something. When I suffer from this, I never end up throwing up, which I find weird. I sometimes also feel naueous AFTER I've been for a number 2 aswell, which is strange. Last Saturday I woke up during the night and felt as though I was going to be sick, but once I went for a poo I was ok. A few minutes later I found myself needing another poo, and when I had one it was quite soft. I then had about four other number 2's and then I was a bit shivery for a while, but then eventually went to sleep. There is history of IBS in my family (my Gran has it) , so is there a possibility I might have it too? And if so, is IBS common in kids my age and teenagers? Thanksss!:-D

You gallbladder isn't a 'vital' organ. Gallbladders are just storage for bile which is produced in the liver. When a gallbladder is removed it doesn't change any part of your life. Bile is still produced for digestion and everything else functions normally.

You more then likely got sick from the meds to put you to sleep. That was the case with me and I had to stay in the hospital a few extra days. I was 17 when mine was taken out 17 years ago.

I am a 14 year old girl and I had my gallbladder out 2 weeks ago. My parents didn't know whether I should have it removed but they decided it would be best. I think I have made the right decision. I can now eat without monitoring it and I feel a lot more free.
