I also had this problem! I would eat a banana late at night if I was hungry instead of bingeing on junk! But just so happens I heard that we are not supposed to eat banana after 9pm, as our body's can not digest them. So you you who have eaten bananas late maybe this is the problem. I won't even risk eating one during the day now though the pain is so sever! Hope this helped anyway !!

Try blending your raw bananas first - then let the blended liquid "ripen" for a few hours. Blending bananas makes them self-digest, like how the bruised parts if a banana look clearer and have a much higher sugar content. If you do this first before consuming your bananas - it will be like eating really ripe bananas without waiting days for them to ripen. I suspect this will make them not cause stomach aches.

I have the same problem! I know in fact it is the banana that gives me stomach aches/pains/cramps. I try not to eat them but today I thought I'd try eating one with my oatmeal. What a mistake. I can however drink them when I make a protein shake and have no pain, why is that?

I am in agony if I eat a banana. It started in my teens. I used to be able to eat banana bread but not anymore. I am now 50 and can't eat anything with banana. Avocados bother me a little too.

I just discovered bananas hurt my stomach about a week ago! My sister has the same problem and I'm wondering if this could be some genetic allergen or a genetic digestive order. I ate a banana today for breakfast (plain, raw) and my stomach started hurting in about 1st period in school. I went to the campus nurse and she said "We're only taking emergencies right now", but isn't it her job to help us? Anyways... I would like to know what causes this.

I get stomach pain from a lot of foods including bananas, I've found that taking a shot of Apple cider vinegar or lemon juice helps a lot. Also hot showers help temporarily

I too have the exact issue! I'm a 37 yr old female with no allergies or health issues. My doctor just chalked it up to IBS. I haven't touched a banana since! I ate a banana twice just to make sure it was from that. Indeed it was! Hope you find some answers! Would love to hear if so.

The banana cramping sensations started happening to me about 10 years ago when I was already an adult. I found out that eating a slice of bread afterwards OR at anytime the cramping started fixed me right up.

I believe that it's a digestive (intestinal) issue. For some reason, the intestines work overtime doing whatever they're trying to do. Eating bread seems to provide the entire digestive process enough real "bulk" to stabilize the movement of the bananas.

For lack of a better explanation, I think this is what's happening.

I was diagnosed with IBS about 20 years ago. The doctor told me to avoid certain foods, including beans, lettuce, etc. I did so for about a month and slowly started to eat the foods I was told to avoid. Haven't had any issues in 20 years.

One thing the doctor told me was to start running a few times a week. I had always been an avid runner but had stopped for a few years. I started running again regularly - no IBS.

About 10 years ago, I developed the banana cramping. FYI, I figured out that if I eat a slice of bread afterwards or even after the cramping starts - the pain goes away. I think it has to do with providing the digestive tract enough "bulk".

Try eating a slice of bread or two after eating certain pain/cramp inducing foods. You might have IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) - I would check this out with a doctor. In the meantime, exercise (like jogging) and mixing gas-causing foods (fibrous vegetables, beans, etc) with "bulk" providing foods (like bread, pasta, rice) can help. Or... avoid gas-producing foods for a while.

I think it's the bulk that's in the food. Oatmeal has fiber - causes gas - causes cramps in sensitive people). Banana, apparently, also causes gas. Protein is not a gas-producing food. When I eat a banana, I'll wait until the cramping starts (I'm always hopeful that it won't happen this time). Right away, I'll eat a slice or two of bread (bulk) and it seems to help 'stabilize' the digestive tract.
