Dear anyone,

I had my gallbladder out around 4 years ago after it had become infected, enlarged and hardened.  I suffered with awful pain, occasional D&V and just feeling "rotten" and various foods and drinks would trigger off an attack which could last up to 3 days.  I was told that all would return to normal once it was removed so i went ahead and had it done.  After, the pain was awful and felt sick and had an upset tummy which lasted for weeks.

Once i felt a little better i attended a lavish dinner party and ate and drank what i wanted.  This resulted in me being extremely ill for 3 days within a couple of hours! and its all gone down hill eversince.  The allergies and intolerances have increased and I am about to see a specialist in the next couple of weeks to see what they can do or suggest.  i am slowly building a long list of foods that i have to avoid in order not to set off an attack.  during an attack i have the following:-

loose bowels, dry wretching, sweats, rashes, (mainly on my chest), tightening of the chest, racing pulse/heart rate and my whole body goes into spasms (anaphalactic shock i am told).

This can last for up to 6 hours and sometimes the medics have to be called to inject me to calm it down.  I also have some small tablets which i can take to try and control it (available over the counter called Buccastem) which helps with the wretching, loose bowels and spasms.  Once the attack has finished i am left feeling drained, tired, sore tummy and the dreaded gall bladder pain and an awful taste in my mouth.  this can last a couple of days depending on how bad the attack was.  Going out for a meal or party is a nightmare as i either do not eat or i have to make a fuss and request that my food does not contain anything i am allergic to.  this is very difficult as i am now allergic to: the majority of oils, especially olive oil, high fat dairy products, ALL alcohol now (used to only be wine and champagne) which includes if its in food, olives, and various food preservatives.

Last night i discovered (after a method of ellimination) that i have now developed an allergy to prawns/shellfish and today after consuming them last night I am feeling rather rotten.

has anyone else had this? does anyone know of anything that could help me? i am feeling rather fed up and wondering where this is going to end!

Do you still have feelings of sickness and pain? I had my gallbladder removed almost 4 months ago and still have nausea and some left sided pain....I take Carafate, Protonix and digestive enzymes---they help but I am in a bout of nausea the past 4 days...

Your post describes me almost exactly. 5 years ago I could eat anything. Now a year after a gall bladder removal I am allergic to gluten, dairy and eggs. It’s hard to find anything I can eat.

Often I get the same nauseous, diarrhea, pain, sweats, heart rate etc.

It’s brutal to say the least.

In any event I’m just trying to learn my new diet. Phenegran has helped my nausea.

Has you symptoms subsided?

In terms of gaining weight, try a B12 supplement to boost energy and appetite. Without gallbladder you lose the ability (most people) to absorb B12 which helps mood, energy, etc. they make some under the tongue that works quick.

I had my gallbladder out Feb. 2017 and by July of 2017 I was allergic to a lot of things that I could always eat. I had a lot of labs done to determine why I was breaking out in severe hives. I'm now diagnosed as allergic to wheat, barley and rye, egg whites, and milk. I was tested again recently and had to add banana and peanuts to the list. The only thing I've been able to contribute all the new allergies to is the gallbladder removal.

Hello, I was allergic to shellfish, nuts, ragweed, perfumes, but when I had my gallbladder removed I have night sweats allergies to wheat, sugar, fish, spices you name it I cannot eat it. I recently went to the mayo clinic, because my doctor said he thought I had Schnitzler syndrome they don't think I have it so I am back to square one. I wish someone can help us.

It’s called bile acid malabsorption and is NOT an allergy,

I just had my gallbladder out two weeks ago, and before I was allergic to a few foods and was tested positive intolerant to some. Now all I seem to be able to eat so far is beef, chicken, goat cheese, plain veggies, no milk, wheat, eggs, yeast and every other food tested positive for on prior allergy testing which was 57 items! It’s insane! Does this calm down? I am going crazy! Before it was some intolerances and garlic. This is torture. It’s worse than wheat and dairy free! Plus I guess I now know why my gastric bypass didn’t work so well is because the protein I was told to supplement was I was actually allergic to and I didn’t even know it until now!

Really feel for you as have had what are thought to be gall bladder attacks from time to time for years but all tests have been negative as no stones found and Hida scan was ejection time was good although test made me feel ill. Because nothing has been found I still have my gallbladder as surgeon said no point in operating but still felt rotten at times. I am 67 years old and migraine headaches have been increasing in frequency and had to fast with every attack which made me wonder if my body just needed to shut down to give my digestion a rest. Finally in desperation I had a blood test done to check for allergies and (after eating them for years) find out I am very allergic to eggs and prawns. No wonder I have felt so awful after eating cakes which I thiught was due to fat content. Therefore I am grateful to still have my gallbladder as that was not the real problem all along but a hidden allergy. At times I have nearly passed out after eating and could never work out what had caused it. I do know prawns make me very nauseous and have also had a bad reaction to Tramadol painkiller. Now I have stopped eating eggs I feel so well and migraines have gone so want to encourage others to get tested.
