I have my pin removed 2 days ago (5weeks after surgery) from 2nd and 3 rd toe on both feet. No pain at all, only little stinging feeling. I was really reliefe! But now one of my toe is so swollen and it's really tender. I am back on med as pain is unreal!! I will contact my doc as Iam worried now. I also have no problem and no pain after surgery at all so that is weird. Did anybody have pain after pins been removed??

I had my second toe (next to by big toe) fused 10 weeks ago. I am worried sick about the pin coming out. Is it normal to have it in for so long? I am fed up being careful and wearing the hospital shoe. I had a check up in Dec and was told it would come out in January..... I am still waiting :(

Keep wearing your surgical shoes! I didn't realize I had to wear constantly and was going to bathroom without them on. Doctor thinks a pin broke. I had surgery 2 weeks ago. She said broken piece will just stay in my bone.

Yes. My pins came out last Friday after being in 10 weeks. Toe now brused and swollen and sore to walk on. Putting shoes on are a good way off I think. My surgen told me it would be sore again as disturbed it pulling pins out. I am back on painkillers. I didnt expect it to be sore either. Hope this helps

i had my pins removed from my 2nd and 3rd toe on friday so 5 days today! i had my toes fused due to hammertoe. Having the pins removed was painless i scared myself reading all these horror stories however i can reassure anyone it did not hurt. you feel a sting as it reaches the nailbed which is common due to the nerve endings. once the pins were removed it bled alittle but became extremely sore after.

they became so swollen the next day so i taped them myself! i wasnt advised too but im a nurse and it felt right. the swelling came down loads by me taping my toes together which is often done for broken toes so it made sense.

i can now say that i am able to walk on it with very little discomfort but still no sign of putting a normal shoe on.

im hoping it heals up so i can get back to my normal self.

plenty of rest and ice.

Hope this helps x

Yes it's painful -, I had three pins removed Monday and I took a double dose of pain medication - it helped calm me . My dr was gentle which makes a huge difference - so when its time to get removed tell your doctor to be extra gentle n take pain Meds 45 min before they get removed

Yes you are right it is very painful. I took pain meds 60mins before but was still painful and very tender and swollen for a while after. I am just starting to wear shoes again and can manage an hour at a time then its slippers again. Still quiet fat and swollen 13 weeks down the line but is getting better. No quick fix for recovery just have to take each day as it comes.

Hi, I had hammer toe surgery 2 years ago and had to have surgery today because the implant on my right foot broke. I didn't have pins put in during my first surgery but I did today. Needless to say I'm upset that I had to go through this all over again. My doctor said that the implants that the previous doctor used were not made right and were easily broken. He was not able to replace the implant because he said if he removed the broken implant there would be no bone left for him to work with. He ended up wiring it together and inserted a pin. He said it would be a long recovery and I am not allowed to put any weight on it. I'm wearing a boot and using crutches. I don't have any regrets on having the surgery but I wished I had done my homework on the implants before I went through with it. After 2 years I thought everything had healed well but all it took was a step on the edge of the stairs to break it. Buyer beware!

It's been 1 month since surgery I-15-15 and I am not walking to good because of pain but every person is not the same. So it's hard to give an answer to recovery time.

I read so many posts on pin removal of hammerotes. I had surgery 4  weeks ago and had stitch removal of 3 toes. That was bad enough, but after reading so many of these posts I was scared of the pin removal. I had myself so worked up anticipating the removal. 3 weeks after surgery I went into the doctors office and was clenching my husbands hand as the doctor prepared to remove the pins.

The first pin was like absolutley nothing. The second and third had a small amount of pressure. All 3 pins were out in 5 seconds. Easy peasy!!!

I asked the doctor why so many people talk about how painfull it is, he explained pain only comes from bent pins.

My advice, be very careful of how you walk till pins are removed. I only  pray that everyone have the ease of removal I did.
