IM 27, 5'3 A LITTLE OVERWEIGHT BUT LOOSING IT STEADILY, MY BREAST SIZE IS 46DDD (ALWAYS BEEN OVER ENDOWED IN THAT AREA) IVE BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH MY BACK SINCE MY FIRST PREGNANCY (IM DONE HAVING BABIES) SUCH AS BACK, NECK, SHOULDER PAIN AND INDENTATIONS FROM MY BRA STRAPS ECT.. IN MAY I GO FOR MY FIRST CONSULTATION WITH THE PLASTIC SURGEON THAT WILL BE DOING THE BREAST REDUCTION, IM VERY NERVOUS I WOULD LIKE TO HEAR FROM ANYONE WHO IS OR HAS GONE THROUGH THIS TYPE OF SURGERY, ANY INPUT ON WHAT YOU EXPERIENCED BOTH BEFORE AND AFTER SURGERY, POSITIVE OR NEGATIVE WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED! HOW LONG AFTER THE FIRST VISIT DO YOU GO FOR THE SURGERY? THANKS
Hi Honey: Good decision. What you should ask is if the surgeon has before and after pictures. This is quite a big deal actually. Most qualified surgeons will have pictures so they can show their patients and a lot of them will have a previous patient you can call for advice. If he/she doesn't suggest it, ask if there will be nipple reconstruction, sometimes if the breast is "long!!" they will want to remove the nipple and attach it later. Ask what the recovery time is. Also have in mind what size you want to be, take a look at different bra sizes and see what you would be comfortable with. Sometimes you have this idea in your mind and after the surgery it's not what you wanted, so have a firm idea on the size like a full C or a D. When you have been big for a long time, it can be a shock if you go too small. If you have heard of the singer Queen Latifah! She was a bit upset after hers because she went too small. And above all this is YOUR body, and if you don't feel comfortable with this Dr. ask for another. I went through a consult, where the Dr. said EVERYTHING negative, plus he had no pictures or previous patients to talk too. I wasn't comfortable with him at all, so now I am waiting for another one. Good luck!
