I am 22. About a year ago I started getting these problems.

I get shortness of breath and heart palpitations, especially after eating fatty meat.

I get muscle twitches all over my body. This is the main issue. Often I simply cannot sit still.

I've removed drugs and processed foods from my regimen, and have been drinking mainly water and cooking my own food. Still no relief after a year. Reading accounts of people dealing with this for 20+ years leaves me with no hope.
After a long time dealing with this and trying many different things, I have established that it's not just any specific kind of food. It is simply the act of eating (or not eating, as well, or having a bowel movement) that causes my problems.

The only occasional temporary relief I find is from clonazepam.

This is no kind of life.

hey all, im a 26 yo female.i can totally relate to what some of u re saying. a few years ago i developed bad anxiety with panic attacks, eventually i was put on aropax and stayed on it for 18 months, it really helped me, but after i came off it is when i started having stomach problems. the doctor told me it was acid reflux, so i first started out with zoton to help with it, and that made me constipated,so then i tried nexium and felt awful still, then i tried pariet and that was ok, also tried somac. ive had stomach ultrasound and the results showed gall bladder sludge which the doctors dont think would be causing stomach problems. anyway, one day i decided to stop taking pariet and see how i feel, i hadnt even been off it for 1 week and i felt terrible and i started getting twitching in my stomach, it was like a heart beat but in my stomach and i could feel it when i put my hand on it, this went on for a while and i couldnt sleep either cos it was so uncomfortable and annoying. eventually i got an endoscopy and the doc told me i have non ulcer dyspepsia. im still taking the pariet 20mg a day and the twitching of stomach has started again, i have also been feeling quite anxious lately so im thinking that could be part of the reason thats happening. its just really confusing sometimes cos when ur stomach is beating and so is ur heart it feels really bizarre.i dont want to be on this medication for the rest of my life, the doctor said it should go away, i dont like the fact that all the medications for this problem make me constipated too, so i have to take stuff for that as well, im thinking about going on anti depressants again soon to see if my stomach improves, then i will be sure that its my anxiet that causes the stomach problems, sometimes its just to much to handle. doctor said i also have to learn what food irritates my stomach

I would humbly suggest that many Doctors too easily pass these types of symptoms off with limited or inappropriate research and analysis - it is documented that heart rate disturbances can be caused by stomach problems - I have been reading and researching for weeks and would suggest sufferers of irregular heart beats with no demonstrated organic heart problems do the research and get back to their Doctors because conventional treatment will not work with this particular problem.

As a starting point, I would recommend the following article which contains basic information following which search on the key words for further information - believe it or not, and men please do not laugh or scoff at this, but Viagra is showing some efficacy as a treatment due to it's effect on PD5 inhibition - but more importantly, there are documented cases of exactly what is being described repeatedly in this thread, heart rate disturbances brought about by gastric problems and there are ways to diagnose and properly treat it.

Other key words for research include tachygastria, bradygastria, gastric myoelectric activity, The Clinical Significance of gastric dysrhythmias

I would prefer not to get into specifics of my situation since everyone is different but classic signs of heart rate disturbances accompanied by gastric distress, bloating, belching, fullness, etc are my problems and they are being dealt with - best of luck to all

Sorry but I forgot the link to the first article that I referenced - it is an interesting and relevant starting point for anyone interested in exploring this with their Doctor

And finally, a precise medical definition of 'Tachygastria'
tachygastria

Type: Term

and,
bradygastria

I have now had the same symptoms everyone describes for a little over a month. They started while I was visiting SFO. They were so bad then that I went to the ER I thought I as going to have a heart attack They gave me anxiety meds and told me to relax. I was relaxed, I was on VACATION!!!

I noticed the same symptoms as everyone here. I had the fullness feeling in my chest, heart palpitations, desire to burp but they would get stuck in my stomach, or I'd belch really loud and painfully. I also have some reflux. The palpitations are the worst after I eat or when I'm hungry. So it's a lose lose situation for me. I did read an article on the vagus nerve, it said that increased stomach pressure will apply pressure on the vagus nerve and cause heart palpitations which makes a lot of sense. This nerve runs down from the brain into your stomach. So for those who have had neck/head injuries this could be helpful for you to look into.

I took Prilosec for 2 weeks and the symptoms went away. Once I stopped the treatment because I was following the instructions on the box, they symptoms came back. Not as severe but they are bugging me all day and night. I take shots of Pepto which seem to help subside the symptoms but they never really go away. I have a Cardio work up next week, but like many of you, I think it will all be fine. I am also able to push my belly down from my sternum and feel a little relief. I know this is definitely stomach related. I just want it to go away!!!

Oh am I glad i came across this thread !!

It seems to me that there are quite a lot of people suffering with this same feeling and condition. We all have a lot in common, I also get:
the heart beat skip, the flutter, the stomach spazm, the sometimes light headedness, the feeling of danger of heart failure...etc

Im 39 and have had the ECG's and all clear, tryed the heart monitor and the time i had it on , not once did i get it, so frustrating. I have had the sudden bouts of what i think IBS, the panic type feelings or feeling like your loosing it through worry. In short, these feelings nock your confidence and give you a feeling of being unsafe. I have had these since i was about 30. the pattern i can see is that the stomach has got something to do with it along with stress and anxiety.

The single most worrying thing for me is the flutter and knowing my hearts skipped a beat !
Heres what ive been going around with..

Im over weight, so i was guessing thats the problem, but i lost a over a stone and it made no difference
I love a cup of tea, i thought hmm, caffeine, so i cut it out and went straight for decaf... guess what, made no difference !
I started at the gym doing the cross trainer every evening, id burn aprox 600 calories over and hour and guess what again ! no difference...
I got a mountain bike and go for evening/night bike rides along the seafront and clock up 14 plus miles and still have the fluttering whilst riding.
I thought having an aspirin would help, dangerous self prescription, i thought well thin the blood and make it easier for the heart, but that can cause stomach irritation

So after trying all sorts of things , heres what i think

alcohol does not help , that just makes you feel panicked and unstable kinda feeling
White bread does seem to make it worse
some wheat and pasta does seem to make it worse
Mc D's food makes it worse, especially a double sausage egg Mc.muffin with hash brown
red-bull, coffee and tea can make it worse
interestingly i also have to see a chiropractor for my lower back, its been over a year ive not seen him and the emotional relief of being put right was a bit of a surprise. i get a shorter leg as my muscles grip so tight in my back.
oh and did i mention the birth of my daughter 12 yeas ago, emergency C section, then a loss of job, oh and the divorce ive just finished...etc it has to be said, stress and anxiety are key i think.

i had a bad day of flutters and skips a year ago and i gulped down a pint of tap water, on that occasion it stopped it immediately.
ive tried relaxation audio tracks and they do help but not straight after a meal.

I hope that someone gets something from this thread like i did, just take comfort in knowing your not alone and just try and except it as u understand its being felt by others. :-)

I too have the same symptoms after eating. It feels as if I am having difficulty breathing. I try to walk after eating and also trying drinking ginger ale and it helps me with digestion.

The cardiologist said nothing wrong. your ecg is fine, there's nothing wrong with yr heart. What about the palpitations, the arm going numb, the tiredness, needing to rest n yet the heart is pounding away, sheer tiredness. No, nothing wrong with your heart. Well, my sinseh said the same, nothing wrong with the heart. But it's the stomach with all the reflux acid that has exacerbated the heart by putting pressure on it thus causing all manner of pounding sensation, circulation problems. So treat the stomach. Watch what you eat. Keep clear of stuff that will irritated your stomach, drink warm water at regular intervals to help clean out the reflux acid n don't overwork your stomach. Obviously I was also overly tired n needed proper rest but I was relieved to hear what my sinseh said. Rather than the expensive heart specialist who cannot connect the dots.

I am a 25y old female. I have been having a rough year with these same symptoms. I first went to the ER for heart palpitations, and my BP was really high. They gave me a 'calm down' pill and told me to get some rest. I began to worry about my heart all on the time, especially at night when I had time to think more. My MD told me to get more exercise to relive some stress... didn't help. I also cut out all caffine, didnt work with the spasm, just gave me bad headaches! After several episodes of this spasm and fear that my heart was going to stop beating and visits to my doctor, she finally put me on Celexa. I have been on it for 6 months and take 20mg. Seems to help, but I still have bad days/nights where I worry and feel this spasm. Maybe one day it will stop....

Do you have a hiatal hernia? This may be something to check into. I do and have all the ideas about my situation as you have outlined. My only way out may be to fix the hernia but i am not sure.
