Hi My name is Ahmed and I live in germany I had urticaria outbreak 4 years ago and it lasted for 3-4 months after that I had it again 9 months later but two injections form a dermatologist helped me to get over now a days they came back again but I had a root canal in november last year but since then whenever I eat some thing hot or cold the toothache starts now adays i dnt feel toothache but sensation is really high from your experience i think I have the same problem of hives related to teeth :(

OMG!  This is your health, your mouth, your dollar, you say what you want done!  An abcessed tooth is oozing bacteria into your body every hour of every day until it is resolved.  You're lucky all you have is hives! I went thru the same thing for 3 years so I speak from exp. I also had hives. I finally said, "PULLIT!" and they did.  What a relief!  Because of the length of time w/o treatment I had problems after the extraction, but after 2 weeks things settled down.  I lost a ton of bone from the long term infection, so if I want an implant I will need cadaver bone.  Right now I am happy to be pain and hive free.

I have been treated for unexplained hives for 10 months , and now find out I have a very bad tooth abscess in a tooth that the root canal was not finished

Oh Lord, my hives are killing me.   Antihistamines don't work for me....just high doses of Prednisone.  Had the hives for 2 months now that ironically started 2 days after I had a root canal on tooth number 14.  Just last night the tooth that I had the root canal done on has started to hurt again.  SO, I'm now wondering if dentist did not get all the abscess out and that this is my problem?  Also, tooth number 15 needed a filling; but, I let it go to in order to pay for the root canal and crown on number 14.  SO, either 14, 15 or both could be my probelm.  If so, I will be so relieved to get it fixed.  For those of you who have been dealing with the issue for years (I CAN'T even imagine), you have my deepest sympathy.  I have the hives with angeoedema, so I'm carrying a ton of water weight along with the fact that a different body part (usually hands, feet, bottom lip) swell up like crazy every day that I'm not on Prednisone.  By the way, I had an herbalist tell me that swishing coconut oil in the mouth for 15 minutes a couple times a day will help draw out tooth infections....a good temporary fix until you can get to the dentist or muster the funds for a root canal.  I'm going to try it just to see if my hives disappear;  If so, then I know for sure that it's my stinkin' tooth that's causing all the problem. I would love for a good dentist to weigh in on this post.

Did you find relief or cured symptoms after the coconut oil? I've had hives for a few weeks after dental work and am desperately trying to figure out how to heal my body. In addition to hives I've experienced swelling lips and red, burning skin around eyes. My prosthodontist and endodontist have never heard of the correlation between crowns/root canals and allergic reactions like I've had. Any follow up would be a tremendous help.

I have had hives (Urticaria?) since the past 12 years. I monitored what I ate (I am vegetarian) but nothing stopped it. I remember when the hives started I developed too decay which I thought was the result of the antihestimines. I never visited a dentist to take care of my dental problems. Two of my teeth just disintegrated and one was still actively infected. Last December I removed the actively decayed tooth and the remains of two stumps. And guess what? My hives are gone. I haven't had it since then. I did ask the dentist but they didn't know. I definitely believe that tooth decay causes hives.

In August of 2013 I broke tooth #30. The dentist just put a temporary crown on it, and two or three days later, the pain set in. By early the next week, I was in AGONY and made the dentist do a root canal on the tooth. The tooth was so "hot" (actively painful and inflamed) that the anesthetic wasn't effective, and I could feel te root canal as he was doing it. He actually shot novocaine straight down into the open roots of the tooth, and I could still feel it. He asked the dental assistant: "Have you ever seen anything like this?" She agreed she had not. Anyway... after the root canal, they placed the final crown. I had probably five or six days of absolute agony. I was sitting on my couch crying because the entire right side of my head hurt so much. But then, gradually, I had a bit less pain each day, until finally it died down. I could still always feel a weird electrical zinging sensation when I touched the tooth, but it wasn't pain so I was OK. I didn't want to wake the dragon by messing with the tooth any more. Well - just about a week after the root canal, my left eye swelled shut, like one giant allergic reaction. At lunch that day, my lower lip (left side) swelled up too. And I got contact urticaria everyplace that any tight clothing was touching me: bra straps, underwear, socks. But this all subsided. This past August, my eye and lip swelled again. But the left eye continued to have symptoms like hives around it, and the lip swell on and off for weeks. Eventually, I developed an eczema-like rash on my eye and face, and at times bright red areas would break out on my forehead and over my lips. (Doctor/allergist/dermatologist. No answer.) Everything moved and expanded to my forearms, which broke out in large, red hives and rashes so itchy they'd keep me awake at night. To the point that a few times, I got up at midnight and used a brush to scratch them. Multiple dermatologis appointments, multiple steroid cream prescriptions. No change. In January, my old bad tooth started being really sensitive to cold or hot foods. It also felt raised above the other teeth... and I was hitting it harder when I bit. My dentist sent me for apico treatment, but the woman said the tooth was cracked and unsalvagable. She cleaned out the infection and stitched me back up. Gave me antibiotics. That was about 3 weeks ago. Yesterday, I had the tooth pulled, and the oral surgeon said (again!) that he needed to clean out the infection, and he put me on more antibiotics. So, I'm feeling like this tooth has been more or less infected for two entire years. The dead nerve was not letting me know. And I find it very suspicious that the first sign of trouble came on the heels of the root canal, and that the worsening of my rash-like symptoms this year came close to the time the infection got bad enough to lift the tooth up in its socket. I am crossing my fingers that pulling this tooth will get rid of my hives and rash. I am astounded that all of medical science can't figure out what is wrong with us! (I told the oral surgeon who pulled my tooth about my hopes that it would cure my rash. He was very dismissive. I wanted to scream, "Well! Just because we don't KNOW that abscesses cause hives doesn't mean they don't cause hives!" Doctors can be so arrogant in their certainty that what they know is all there is to know!

I'm plagued with the same thing, I just itch all over, no hives just itching like crazy!

There is definitely a correlation between bacteria, infection and hives. For twenty years I have been struggling with Chronic Urticaria and Angioedema. I now know that it was my tooth all along, as I just had it pulled two weeks ago and since then NO HIVES! This tooth had a root canal and crown and it was a constant problem (infection etc) I had wanted it pulled years ago, but the dentist advised against it. I wish I had insisted, as I would have avoided years of pain, anguish and prednisone. Moral of the story: LISTEN TO YOUR BODY and advocate for your health and well being!

Also, be aware that, the materials they use for dental procedures can cause CU and angioedema.

I have had hives associated with teeth issues since I was born. I have had giant hives, had to be on prednisone many times. Doctors, Allergists etc. could not find the problems. My father always said it was my teeth and I have found that to be true. After the agonies as a baby getting teeth through final adult teeth - hives went away; in my 20's had impacted wisdom teeth - had hives - had impacted teeth removed - no more hives. In my 40's - had massive hives, on prednisone - no relief - so went to dentist - found out I had periodontal disease, cavities etc - so had deep cleaning, fixed cavities, and anything else wrong - by time the deep cleaning of the 4 quadrants was finished - no more hives. Now 55 and started to get hives - went directly to dentist - he found 2 abcessed teeth and are now working the plan to correct all issues with my teeth - Abcess issue in progress and hives are begin kept at bay. My dentist, doctor, and endodontics dentist are the believing kind of people that say that it could be true and I know it is true by evidence throughout the years. FIND A DENTIST THAT WILL BELIEVE YOU AND WORK WITH YOU

UPDATE:

I am the woman who broke her tooth in 2013 and had terrible hives and eczema this past year on my face and arms.

My bad tooth was pulled in June, and my urticaria symptoms have decreased a bit every day since. I just passed the anniversay (late August) when I broke out in hives for the last two years. I've been dreading that time, fearing that I was about to get another resurgence of hives!

As of this day, I haven't had to take a Benadryl in more than a week. I had been taking 1-2 each night for months and months, trying to get to relief and be able to sleep without itching.

I'm really hopeful that it was the chronic tooth problem that was causing the hives.
