i used to get these in high school on the sides and tips of my fingers. one day i got frustrated with one of the dots i used nail clippers and pinched off the bump. BAD BAD BAD IDEA. after i clipped that one off, it started gushing blood like craaaaaazy, and it was just as small as a pinhole, so i thought that was unusual.
my doctor told me that they were little blood veins that strayed to the skin surface, and since the skin layers were thin on the bump, my blood turned red under the surface of my skin, from the oxegyn. so....maybe that will explain it. i used to be very stressed in high school as well, and thats when i got them....i'm not very stressed anymore and dont get them now, so try as much as possible to lower your stress levels. even just taking 5 mins out of a hectic day for yourself can help.

Mine are the same as yours! I used nail clippers to clip the "dead" skin and found there are two little red (beading) dots one dot larger than the other on all three of these "bumps". I am an electrician and work with a lot of mechanical stuff. Originally i thought they where little wire fragments or metal/fiberglass splinters. They don't hurt unless i press on them with my nail or something which is why i thought they may be old splinters that i dint get out. But after clipping my way to what i thought was a splinter using the nail clippers i found these two red dots, now that the skin is gone i can run my finger gently over the two red dots and OUCH it feels like a splinter still! but i don't see anything. Its just weird that there are two dots one larger than the other under all three of these callas like bumps.

I have just one at the moment and it's been there for a very long time. I always pick at it and try to get to the "core" but it just gets red and bleeds a bit. It doesn't hurt at all not even when I press on it unless I've been picking at it excessively. I've had others though that did hurt and they went away quite quickly without me doing anything to them. This one is on my middle finger just below my knuckle.

I have these too but they've spread to many parts of my body. They look sorta purple red bumps under the skin and they itch and hurt horribly. I've been told it may be a form of vasculitis which is a very serious condition but I cant afford the confirmation test. Mine have progressively gotten worse since November of last year. Now I have vision problems and headaches constantly. Ask your dr about vasculitis.

I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. i DID SEE THE DERMALOGIST WHO SAID THAT IT WAS NOT HERPETIC WHITLOW. SHE SAID THAT IS EXTREMELY PAINFUL WITH LARGE BLISTERS ON THE SKIN. SHE DID GIVE ME SOME STEROID CREAM. I HAVE FOUND THESE SUB-DERMAL AREAS THAT ARE WHITE WITH A RED DOT IN THE MIDDLE. NOT VERY PAINFUL OR ITCHY. WHEN YOU PUT PRESSURE AROUND THE DOT IT GET WHITER. I HAVE EVEN FOUND THEM ON MY TOES. NOT MANY. MY SISTER IN LAW SAYS THAT SHE GETS THEN WHEN SHES STRESSED.

It happened really bad when I went to Las Vegas on year. I was so scared. It happened on all of my fingers, I thought I drank to much.

I have been trying to look this up relentlessly. I get these same tiny spots every so often too. Unfortunitly I have never thought to track when and how long between outbreaks or what the weather is like. I decided to start searching again today as I had a few pop up yesterday morning. It started with one on my left hand middle finger in between my two joints. Now I have 11! Most on my right hand. Some are barelly visible only reason I know they are there is because of the pain. Mine never itch. They do not get larger in size they are the size of a needle prick. They do not peel or anything only hurt when pressed or I grab something and it pushes on it so it does make daily tasks painful :-/. Never been to the doctors. I cant find anything online. Everything brings up whitlow, or warts. which is deff. not it. Only way I have found anything is other peoples blogs and pictures but they say doctors do not know. Its so frustrating they are very random and painful.

I havent cooked in weeks or encounted ANYTHING hot whatsoever, and i have this spot on my index finger, its on the side by where the finger makes its first bend. the center is white, it feels like a burn, and almost looks like one(the prints are too defined for it to be a burn though).

Could it be a callous in the making? a wart? i have never had a wart before and i see no reason that might give me a callous in this area.

i am having the same thing but haven't yet seen a doctor, was hoping to find some answers on line. unfortunately it looks like noone knows what they are! small red dots no bigger than the tip of a pen, don't hurt unless touch and then very painful. just beneath the skin, definitely not on surface like a blister. started with 3 on right thumb about 2 weeks ago, now a couple on my left hand fingers and more on my right hand. very frustrating and irritating. feel like i have splinters or blisters, but i know they are not. someone be sure to post if they ever get an answer!

So strange that no one has received a diagnosis on this!

I am 36 years old and just got these mysterious red painful spots on my hands for the first time ever. It started with one on the back of one finger and then this morning I have about 10 on both hands. I think I have one on the bottom of one foot too. It hurts only when I touch them or clench my fists. They don't itch either. I did have a fever and sore throat the day before, so I thought there was a connection there. I have also been skiing the whole week before so I was wearing mittens the whole time. It would be interesting to hear if there a name for what I have!

Yes!! i get them on my first finger and this little bump has been there 4 agess!!! javascript:emoticon(':(') but recently a new one popped up ?!

Someone hassss to know what the hell they are??

I get them on my index fingers. To me they look like hard bumps that are red but they seem to be deep under the skin - not just under the first layer. They don't really hurt when I press on them with my finger, but if I use the edge of my fingernail and apply pressure, they are tender. Mine feel almost calloused over, like the top layer of skin is dead and hard. I don't recall them itching. I only get them on the side of my index finger, never on my palms.

After a few weeks, the skin starts to get very dried out and begs for me to pull it off. It isn't painful, but the skin is always very thick coming off - like a callous.

I asked my doctor about them and (like many other people that I've seen on the internet say this) she gave me s cream to put on them. This doesn't seem like something that can be treated with a topical ointment because it seems to be so deep into the tissue. I used the cream and it did nothing.

Mine look like blisters and mine are very deep under the skin, not on the surface like these. I haven't found any internet pictures that resemble what I'm talking about. Anyone looking at my hands would not notice them unless I pointed them out. They are barely visible and the bump is almost not visible unless you touch it. You can see it when it's pointed out.

I wish someone could tell me what they are - they are very annoying.

I have suffered from this problem for over 10 years. Everytime I get stressed red spots appear on the sides of both index fingers. They are painful when pressed or knocked. When my hands have dry skin they are very hard to see but still hurt. in the past when I have been very stressed I get them on my elbows too, these are the most painful and largest. I am female and 29 years old. I have never been to the doctors about it and didn't think anyone else had it until I read this today.

I too have had this problem for as long as I can remember. I am 31 now and as I write this, my fingers and hands are covered in the 'mystery' red 'sore' spots. I tend to get them every month and I always though it was something to do with my menstrual cycle but my gynecologist ruled this out and told me they are nothing to worry about. Easy for him to say - he doesn't realise how painful they are and how much it can affect your everyday tasks.
This month they are particularly bad and I have them on the tips of my fingers which makes every task difficult. Like the rest of you - the doctors don't seem to have any answers for me. I recently got told by a friend that they might be glucose spots and I should take glucose tablets until they clear up. I'm prepared to give anything a try. It could do with stress levels however, I m unsure why every 3-4 weeks I suddenly get stressed! I must add - occasionally the spots appear on my knee caps and have exactly the same feeling as my hands. It's all very bizarre - surely there must be a doctor out there somewhere who can help us!!!
