How acupuncture can help diabetics?

I saw on an acupuncture website that acupuncture is recommended for diabetics, and as I have type II diabetes I am quite curious about this now. How can acupuncture help people with diabetics? Is there any kind of real improvement or is it just symptom relief on the whole? Are there any diabetics here who have actually tried this?
