Ok good stuff. Well done on eating more fruits and salad. Try drink more water but the key is to also cut down on the processed foods, sugary foods, take always and bad foods and things with aspartame, sucralose, MSG and caffeine in them etc. this is the hard part, especially when you feel like comfort eating. Keep a log of everything you eat and every few hours you can make a score out of ten as to how you feel. Monitor this and then in 2 months look for patterns. Eg caffeine for me doesn't make me bad just when I drink it, the next day is when I'm ill.

PJ,
Is your anxiety gone for the most part and I've definitely been eating better and did away with caffeine...this is my 5th month sober now
Reply

Hi pj again, yeah it goes completely but if I have a coffee, even decaf, then my mind races and i get anxious. Sugar and chocolate dont help.

A good diet, vitamin b, water, hypnosis cd and I'm fine. Once I'm fine if I don't go silly I can have the odd desert etc and be ok, especially if not stressed.

Get your diet sorted, nail it for a good while, relax and then when you're better try see if you can cope with a biscuit etc.

Thanks PJ...one other question did you have brain fog at all because that's another symptom that is terrible some days
Reply

Yeah, brain fog, short term memory loss, depersonalisation, being in a dreamy state, getting confused and all of that. Couldn't have face to face conversations, couldn't face people etc. I'm over that now, boy was it unpleasant, about the worse thing that could happen.

Thank you so much for answering my questions,...you just described me to the tee....brain fog, depersonalization and anxiety are the worst feelings in the world

PJ,
did you just wake up one day and the anxiety and brain fog was gone?
Reply

Pj again. Sorry for delay.  getting better was so slow its so subtle you just don't notice. BUt looking back the changes have been dramatic.

its a bit like ageing, you don't notice yourself getting older every day but look at a picture from 10 years ago and you see the difference.

therefore this is the hard part, some days and weeks are better, some worse but the trend gets better and better.

stress is the only thing that can trigger me now, that and a strong coffee.

i think rationally, don't argue, don't have a temper, don't think irrational thoughts, don't get paranoid, don't go hot and cold, no probs sleeping, no trembling,no feelings of imminent doom, no feelings of losing it.

i do get the odd bout of anxiety but nothing like it was, I'm going through a house move and health probs with parents and working long hours so bit of stress in my life but its easily manageable.

diet is key, thats the bit i find hard :)

other ers people's stories welcome, I'm interested to hear how peoples first twelve months have gone

Reply

Yeah I can definitely notice subtle changes but like you said it's such a slow process I start to wonder if I'm getting better or not...I'm at 6 months so just hoping the healing starts moving a little more quickly
Reply

Stick with it and when you look back you notice the changes. Make notes of how you feel etc.
Reply

Yeah I'm definitely sticking with it....it just seems like a never ending hell
Reply

Yeah it does but just imagine going back to square one! Sleep, relax, massages, vitamins, no sugar, water, good food, happy tv programmes, set off early, don't rush, be in the moment don't think too much and it gets better. Give yourself two years.

Feel free to write a more detailed report and diary, il read it :)

Ok thank you PJ..I'm doing all the above as you stated...how are you doing and feeling now?
Reply

I'm ok now thanks. Working long hours at present so been stressed, had death in family and my diet has slipped due to working hard so feeling mild anxiety at end of day but prob only 15% of what it used to be.

Need to reduce work, get diet back on track and do more exercise and I'll be fine.

Keep up your good work.

Wow I really know the feeling I just quit cold turkey 4 days ago and I have been drinking a lot of water and eating more healthier. The reason why I quit was I ended up in the Emergency Room from dehydration and I felt like I was going to die my blood pressure was elevated. My cravings are still there but I look into my little girls eyes and the rest of the kids and it keeps me Motivated. When I get the cravings I just grab a glass of water and it goes away. Tomorrow will be day 5.and the cravings get less I have been occupying my mind with God and the Holy Bible and get going thinking of what Jesus went threw for us and that cravings goes away. The body rejects beer now the smell of it makes me throw up.
