how soon do you lose weight after going of depo provera?

Yes i was on the depo shot for 4 years and stopped the shots in October 2013 at that time i was 215lbs. Around August 2014 i got sick and started to lose weigh drastically my period was also back to normal and I went from 210 lbs at that time to 163 lbs as of today's date (23/02/15). I don't take any weight loss supplements or otherwise neither do I exercise and I lose sometimes up to 3 lbs a week. I just eat gluten free and try to drink as much water as possible, I have also cut off sugar and other harmful foods. I have an appointment with my OBGYN on Friday where my main question will be if this is due to coming off the depo.

I was on depo for about 5 years and stopped this October. It took until this February to get my period back and it' still irregular. That being said, while I was on depo I never realized that was the reason I would constantly gain back the weight I would lose.  Once I got off depo I worked my butt off in terms of eating healthy and working out, which was already a regular part of my life. When I got my period I found that losing weight got easier. But the big takeaway message from this is you HAVE to change your diet if you're looking to lose weight. Try to slowly add in the good foods and take out the processed. It won't be easy but it will be worth it!

I started the shot when I was 14 years old due to very bad cramps, Migraines,and heavy/ irregular flow. I played sports in High school so I didnt see a change in my weight until my junior(16/17yrs. old) year. I realized I went from being 125-130+. I was freaked out to see that number on the scale so I cut out all carbs it seemed to have helped a bit and I lost 5 pounds. I also realized I was growing and becoming a woman so 10 pounds wasntto bad afteral,so I stopped my diet. My senior(17/18yrs. old) year in highschool  I got to my smallest point since entering highschool 123lb I felt great but I knew I looked unhealthy and thats what all my freinds were telling me so I started eating really unhealthy and got to 130lb I stayed at 130 for a steady period of time. I went get one of my many shots at the end of my senior year (after my my sports were over).. which lead to major weight gain. I then started college and gained the "freshamn 15" I was then 158lb. I started my new year and new semester off with going paleo and working out everyday. I dropped to 151-153lbs in a month. I decided that I wasnt going to get my depo shot which was schedualed for 2/17/15 and as of 2/24/15 im 148lb hoping to work back to 130-135. With all this being said does depo make you ganin weight? It can be a possibility but it's also a mindset thing .You have to watch what you eat and workout. In high school I didnt gain much because I was active I had to be active and push through if I wanted the starting postion even though I did feel slughish at times. Being off of the shot I feel more energized in just a short period of time. I have lost a few pounds since getting off with dieting and working out so it is possible to lose when coming off. I know my paragraph is scattered but I hope it helps any young girl that is going through this. I know for me it was hard to get information because most woman on this and that comment on sights are 18-40yrs old. So this is for you young girls. 

I can agree i been on it off and on four years ...and i was on the patch but in indiana some clinics dont have that, comming from chicago i weighed 140 for my height of 5'7 i looked good having two kids..lol i got back on the shot i have went from a size 9 to a size 13 in three years and im 183lbs...and i barely eat but the weight keep comming..im getting off the shot this month..its good to not have a period but the gaining of weight is a no no for me..i rather bleed and cramp alil for 3 days lbvvs...and yes no lubrication i thought it was only me ..thank god..lol im not the only one...i been excercising but to no prevail of losing..so off da shot i go.

Hi, I am 35 & my 4th shot is due March 10th, 2015...In my opinion... CHOOSE A DIFFERENT BIRTH CONTROL IF YOU HAVE THE OPTION TOO! OMG THIS DEPO HAS BEEN THE DEVIL 4 ME... I have 2 babies 15.5 Months apart 24 months & 8 months old. I was lazy taken the pill so I got the depo July 2014, September 14, Dec 14. I haven't had a period since October. My 1st dose was great...no weight change & periods..After my 2nd dose...I stopped bleeding completely & noticed my weight going up a few lbs & my boobs getting bigger... In December 14 ,my 3rd shot was due & I gained 20 lbs (105 was my weight b4 my 2nd deposit shot) ..I expressed my concerns 2 my obgyn & he treated me like the depo wouldn't cause that much gain so fast & told me 2 exercise & eat less (my diet & exercise has never been a issue) so I trusted him & got the 3rd dose...Oh I wish I Could go back 2 that day & give my doc a taste of the depo! It is March 2nd, 2015...I now weigh 133lbs @ 5'2...my hips, butt r huge & my stomach looks like I am pregnant w a flubbber baby...my mind thinks it's pregnant! This weight isn't normal 4 me..I feel gross, ugly, insecure, depressed on nothing fitting me, & no matter what I do & yes I have tried everything... the weight keeps going up...I even have fit bit & go 30,000 plus steps a day & 10 miles a day.. SEEMS LIKE THE WEIGHT GAIN STARTED WHEN I LOST MY PERIOD.. I've always had 2 week cycles...or 21 days...I'd rather bleed every month then wear sweat pants & lounge pants everyday...hell, I'd rather be pregnant! Atleast I'd have a reason 4 very fast weight gain.. I had my family doc test my blood 4 any other reason on weight gain...Nothing! I JUST WANNA WEAR JEANS AGAIN & FEEL NORMAL PLUS NOT BE ASKED IF I'M PREGGO... I lost all my baby weight just 2 gain DEVIL DEPO WEIGHT! ALSO, I haven't had a sex drive (who would w gaining so much so fast?) So gaining weight like this was 4 nothing.. Such a terrible thing 2 go thru as females trying 2 prevent pregnancy or help a medical condition...this injection is the worse outta all evils...PLEASE RESEARCH 1ST & DON'T LET ANY DOCTOR MAKE U FEEL LIKE YOUR CRAZY ON ANY SIDE EFFECTS THAT ISN'T YOUR NORMAL. SEEK ANOTHER OPINION B4 A 2ND OR 3RD DOSE..PLEASE...

did u lose the weight

Thank you for your post! I have had only 2 Depo injections and I have had a significant (for me) weight gain. I am an avid weight trainer and work out 7 days a week! I eat healthy and do cardio as well. I have never been more disappointed in something, I was not informed about the massive weight gain that it could cause. How depressing it has become. I myself have increased my workouts (time) and NOTHING! I STILL GAIN WEIGHT! Besides the fact that I have not been one of the lucky ones: I am still having an annoying light period, every day! So over this shot!

wow same here, its been a little over a year on the shot. I was 140, now i'm almost 200! very depressing and my self confidence is horrible. great that i don't get periods but not worth these side effects. I will get off of this ASAP...and the sad part is that I JUST got the shot this past tuesday...so now I have to wait...doctors visit is at the end of this month...I'll be letting her know I need another method!

*UPDATE* 4/7/15 It has been a month since I didn't get my 4th Depo injection & I still haven't had a cycle & I have lost 3lbs (March 10th I weighed 133lbs) 2 day I weighed 130lbs. I haven't been doing anything different for the 3lb loss just like I didn't do anything different 2 gain the 28lb Depo weight. So my gain was definitely from the Depo.

Ive been on depo for a while now, its been so long that ive done lost track, after reading all u ladies comments it really makes me feel depressed because i knew about some side effects and what it did to my bones but didnt want to believe it, Ive also gained so much weight and cant seem to keep it off im also always hungry, i dont feel pretty or sexy anymore, i do feel depressed sometimes so i dont know if its just me or is the shot. I want to stop taking the shot but im also not ready for another baby i have 3 little boys, so that is the reason why i got on depo in the first place, i am so afraid to try anything else like the pills because i am so bad at remembering things and i would surely forget to take them, also because i cant afford anything else that would be my only other option. After reading all of thisi realize its just not worth it, i can already feel exhausted at times and sometimes too tired so im thinking it has something to do with my bones....if possible please someone give me some advice id appreaciate it

I have been one the deposit shot for almost 3 years and I hate it I never weighed over 180 but now I am up to 255 and my cousin had the Same thing but she got off of it and lost weight so I think I'm switching back to the pill I'm not on birth control for sexual reasons I got put on it Bc I have cysts in my Fallopian tubes but try when I was on the pill I didn't gain weight but the shot I gained 75 pounds

hello. im 28 and i got a depo provera shot a little more then 2 months ago. i too gained 26 pounds during that time.my hair used to fall a lot but stopped after 2 months.side effects i got; weight gain,headache, no period, hair loss, painfull sex, cant sleep that well, i feel tired(im not the kind of person that likes doing nothing) but now i just dont have the energy), depression, swing moods, my hips and lower back hurt, and the most im worried about-loss of livido- its close to ruining my marriage.after the 2nd day both my arms hurt-for more then a week- so much i couldnt move them and felt very heavy to move as if under anesthesia. im ok with no period though. went from 136lbs to 162lbs. and i didnt change my eating habits either. i just cant loose the weight ive exercised, eat less then half the amount i usually ate. i read on an article depo provera is used on sexual predators in prison so they loose their livido and dont want to abuse others.

I took the shot going on three years and gained 30 pounds within the first 3 months. On top of that I am also no longer ovulating and my gyno saids I'll probably have to get shots to induce ovulation if I ever wanted to get pregnant

I've been on depo provera for almost 10 years, no pregnancy and no periods. I just had a bone density scan 2 weeks ago and luckily no signs of osteoporosis (it does run in my family). However I have gained around 90 to 100 pounds gradually over time, most of it in the first 3 years. i have tried losing the weight but unfortunately it's easier to put on than lose... I stayed on depo for just over a year ( 4 shots)  at first I gained no weight, about 3 months in I had gained about 8 lbs, I thought my weight would settle after my body got used the injections, it didn't when I came off the depo my weight just got worse, in total I have gained over 30 lbs, on top of this I have had crazy mood swings, fluid retention, migranes, panic attacks, my body is covered in stretch marks,  I have the runs almost everyday for 8 months no matter what I eat, iv cut gluten, dairy, fat, I'm eating more fibre nothing seems to work, on top of this I feel like I have been run over by a truck, my body aches all day every day! it took 16 months for my periods to come back, when they did I thought my symptoms would get better but now all I have is extreme heavy periods on top of everything else! I have a very physical job I'm a chef and I run around all day 12 hours a day, I don't eat enough to gain the weight I have , I feel angry and frustrated, like I have no control over my own body, I can't be excited about parties, holidays, concerts because I always fear how much i will weigh by then, or I never know how sick I'm going to feel that day!! The doctors I have seen are useless, they say it's in my head, that depo has no serious side effects, I've had my thyroid tested came back normal. doctors acknowledge I'm suffering but don't help in any way, I blew up at a doctor last week and only now after 2 years of suffering are they taking me seriously!! It has effected my realationship with my parter, mainly because my sex drive has vanished, I can bare to look at myself, I feel irritated easily and snap for small things, I feel ashamed about my weight gain because I was so fit and slim before the depo and the truth is people dont understand what your going through and I feel embarrassed because I do everything I can to loose weight it just doesn't happen, Im fed up and exhausted but I'm not depressed, the doctors do try to pacify you with happy pills but avoid them if you can, it just masks the real problems ... The fact that they are injection poison into people ŷ
