how soon do you lose weight after going of depo provera?

*UPDATE* 5/31/15 I started taking Vitex April 8th,15 & bled the next day. Ive had breakthru bleeding since but ive lost a total of 9lbs without doing anything different to my diet. Its now been almost 2 months since i didnt get my last depo dose (december 16th, 2014 was my 3rd & final dose). There is hope on loosing the depo weight after you get off it but with me, i had 2 get off of it 2 loose the depo weight. W me taking the vitex 2 get my hormones back in balance has helped. I still have 10 more lbs 2 loose so ill keep updates.

I've been on depo since I was 15, and have been gaining weight like CRAZY! When I started depo I weighed roughly 100pounds. I just turned 18, and weigh 175 pounds! I decided to get off it after I went to the doctor and had gained 15 pounds in three months!

some light at the end of the tunnel that is the depo provera nightmare, finally i've found a doctor who is willing to help and admit depo may be causing my health issues, in for full blood work tomorrow. fingers crossed that i now get some answers soon :)

Hi, I've been on the Depo Shot since 1994 (16 yrs old) after my first child. I am now 37 yrs old, and I have gained roughly 80 pounds over those years. I have lost 44 and gained again. I enjoyed not having a period, and never had a problem returning to normal after stopping Depo. I take multi viatamins, and calcium as this does cause bone loss.. I exercise daily, and stay away from salt and sodas as it causes Bloating. I noticed over time that Depo gives you a bloaty appearance and makes u swell up like a balloon in appearance, after quitting Depo , my body seemed to return to normal and I lose the weight ( with effort) as normal. My cycles were clotty and I think it was because of not having a period for such a long time. No cramping though, so a little clotting is normal...

I was hopeful that would happen too but it's been a year and i finally got my period back three months ago but the weight is still on and going up. I have no way in stopping it. I have tried every diet, working out, everything available and my weight keeps going up. I eat less the I did before I got the shot but my weight is still going up. Sorry to ruin it but the Depo destroys lives!!!!!!!

YES!! I have been on depo for a little over 3 years and have gained 52 pounds on it. I have also lost SO much hair just like you, it's very thin now. Everyone thinks I'm crazy when I say I've had a lot of hair loss since I started it, even my doctors. I've looked online about it though, and a lot of other people seem to have the same problem. I also have problems with my arm pits sweating no matter what deoderant I use, even prescription strength. I also had bleeding on the shit for 2 1/2 years and the finally put me on a low dosage birth control pill too for a couple of months and now I don't bleed, just spot every now and then, but I still have all of the other problems.

I was just wondering if you got any results? After you got your period back did your weight come off? I'm having the same trouble. I gained about 20 pounds in a month. And can't seem to lose the weight even while dieting.

I'm 17 and ontheshot currently and I have had two shots so far before I started it i had no acne at all and weighed 145 and my absolute were almost visible. No I'm 164 and have acne all over my face and my bones are always aching

Yes!!! I have been on the depo shot for over a year. Before I started it I was thin and had long hair. Now I have gained a lot of weight and my hair has been falling out in the shower as well. It's a bad drug and I am getting off it!

I am not sure if you will see this since you posted over a year ago now but I was wondering if you ever lost the weight after getting off of the depo shot? I have been on depo for almost 3 years now and had the exact same thing happen to me. I was always really skinny, weighing 120-130 pounds and then after 3 years on it, I weigh 180 pounds just like you did. My doctor did warn me about this though but I didn't believe him. I wish that I had never gotten on this shot. Yeah, it has been nice not having to suffer with the horrendous cramps but I would take that back instead of having to be overweight like this now. I have heard different things about the weight loss when getting off of the shot. Is it true that you will lose some weight when you get off and your cycle starts back up again?

Yes in my case, getting off the depo has me loosing some lbs. So far since March 2015...133 then & 125lbs today 7/8/15

i had been on the injection for over 12 years, thought i was gaining weight because i was over eating- i hit 17.9 stones before i stopped getting the injection- that was 18 months ago- i haven't changed much but no longer binge eat- i have now lost 3.5 stones and not thin i am certainly much more healthy- really scary - just be aware x
