Hello everyone. I have diabetes type 1 and I've been driving for 35 years. I have not been able to manage my blood sugar levels very well these past few years and I'm afraid I may pass out or perhaps have a seizure. I wondering about my car insurance because I pay my premium once a year. How do I get car insurance money back if I can't drive due to diabetes. Does anyone have any experience with this. My premium is rather high and I would like to think that I could back some of that money. Any information you could share would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hello,

Sounds like your having complications with your diabetes type 1. I hope you can get help with that and bring you blood sugar levels where they need to be. However, in the meantime if you are afraid you may pass out or have seizures it is wise to consider not driving at least for a while. Since you would be canceling the policy and you've been a long time customer, you should have no problem getting back all the unused portion of your insurance premium. You'll need to send them a letter in writing telling your insurance company that you want to cancel and let them know you will not be driving at this point. Once they receive your letter it could be anywhere from 2 days to a couple of weeks before you receive the unused portion of your premium. If you've only used a couple of months for this cycle you should have a fair chunk of change coming to you. Don't spend it in all one place. I hope you can find someone who can help you manage your type 1 better so you can have more personal freedom. I wish you the best of luck and hang in there.
