How to prepare a home for a visually impaired person?

Make sure all the toys, especially the little things are not in the walking area.

I'm sure there is a visually impaired society in Phoenix. Maybe you can give them a call and see if they have a handy dandy checklist of do's and dont's.

I would have never thought of that. I didn think to make sure all toys and small items are out of the way and once he is there DONT rearrange anything. From what I have read and seen they can memorize locations of furniture quickly!

Blind. He does not know brail, but does have a cane. I'm going to reload my refridgerator the way my mom does theirs. She told me the system they have for softdrinks...beer...certain foods he likes. I don't have many toys that get left out. They are stored in the kids' rooms or on shelves in the garage. I made sure he had a good walking path through each room. My kids have been reminded not to lay on the floor in those paths and to tell him when they are in the room with him (so he doesn't trip over them). He will not go upstairs here, so that's one less worry. My remote controls to the tv are the same....remarkably. I think everything will be ok. My mother will walk around and see things that needs to be done for him when she gets here. I just wanted to get it as ready as possible.
