I had my gallbladder removed two months ago.  It took a few days before I could go the toilet mainly because of the pain killers I was given after surgery.  I kept up a light diet and took regular senacot (gentle laxative containing senna)

If you are taking pain medication containing codeine it WILL clag you up.  Whenever you take anything with codeine, take a gentle laxative at the same time.

Everyone's digestive system reacts differently to gallbladder removal.  Two small squares of dark chocolate goes right through me because it is laden with fat; as my surgeon says, it won't do any damage but for me to know that there will be consequences if I eat dark chocolate.

I see some many people complaining about having their gallbladder removed and that is just plain stupid; you can't put it back and you had your gallbladdeer out for a very reason in the first place.  You really just need to watch your diet and listen to your body.  Things have changed and you need to alter your lifestyle accordingly.

My brother ate KFC a week after his gallbladder was removed and he was really sick.. he had no one to blame but himself.

I am glad I had mine removed and really haven't had any problems; just some readjusting to my lifestyle and eating patterns.  The alternative of a blocked bile duct and further complications from that doesn't bare thinking about.

I had my gallbladder removed at the end of January 2012. More than a year later, I'm still experiencing problems. Before my surgery, I had a normal digestive system. I was able to go to the bathroom at least once a day. Now I'm lucky IF I go once a week. Every doctor I've seen tells me that a normal after surgery symptoms is diarrhea, but of course, that is not my case. I've been put on Miralax, Senokot, Milk of Magnesia and now a brand new medicine called Linzess. Linzess is supposed to be a super strong drug that cleans you out. Nothing is working consistently. No doctor can figure out what is wrong and why all of the sudden after I have my gallbladder removed, I can't use the bathroom. I get so backed up that I feel like I might get sick when I eat and I'm afraid to eat. I am a 22 year old female who is physically active, eats healthy, drinks loads of water, and in great shape. Is anyone experiencing the same issue? I can't be the only one out there!KatDog

had my gall bladder removed 11/12 and it took me a week to finally "go." now I usually have to "go" close to immediately after I eat for the most part, besides that I'd say I'm pretty regular...

I just had mine and it went amazing...only been out a couple hours and am up and walking around. However I did google this question because I am pretty good about knowing when I go poop...I just wanted to know how long it is before I should have a bowel movement. They wont let you leave the hospital until you pee, so was wondering about poot..so that being said, I am glad there was info out on this subject. I think ppl are just trying to share and answer questions...Thanks for any and all comments.

I had my same day cholecystectomy done on Nov 8th and I'm still waiting to have a bowel movement. I usually go once a day (everyday) and my last one was the day before surgery. I'm worried because I've been eating broth (the first two days), leafy vegetables, fruits, farina & Brown rice, lots of water and thin slices of chicken breast and there's nothing coming out. I take a stool softener daily (since 2009) and that's not helping either. There's some bloating and tenderness near my belly button...not taking any pain medication either (I'm choosing to deal with the pain). I hope to see some bowel movements soon (I'm getting scared)....

I HAD A BOWEL MOVEMENT TODAY! It was of normal color and texture, no offensive odor, no pain coming out and it was alot! I feel so much better now (it shows that my system is working like it should).

Had my GB removed 3 days ago . . . Had the same problem. I decided to get off the Pain Medication on the 2nd day and ate dried prunes, and was able to do #2 a couple of times. But the stool was very hard . . . Almost like in pellets. I hope my system will normalize soon. Take care.

Stop taking pain medication, if possible, and eat foods high in fiber. That should help you poop in a couple of days.
