I came on Google to find out if this was actually a medical condition I can't belive how many people are going through it too it's been a few weeks I've noticed it. Sometimes it smells like cigarette smoke and sometimes just a burning smell. It's irritating. I thought people smoking next door when I was staying at a hotel weekend gone I could smell it strong. I really can't stand the mell of cigarettes too.
Hi all. I felt compelled to respond to you all. Please forgive me for my somewhat long story & if someone has already mentioned the remendy that I am about to, for I haven't read through every post due to a time constraint. (Although, after you read this your going to prob doubt my time constraint I think. I truly didn't intend for it to be so long)
Here is what I know about this; my Brother, who is a 43 year old Caucasian male (ethnicity prob has absolutely zero releavance here whatsoever, but, again, I'm just trying to be as helpful & accurate as possible for you all :) )
So, my Brother recently visited me about a month ago (he lives in Ohio, and I, in Florida) He told me about this Bazaar & most annoying sudden issue that started to interfere with his daily life. He started smelling smoke. Smoke ALL THE TIME. His smoke smell was referred to more as a "smoky campfire" kind of smoke. A very heavy, ashy, thick and constant smell of campfire burning smoke! This was annoying to say the least in the beginning, but over time it grew to be most disturbing as it was constant, day & night, 24/7. It began disturbing his sleep, since he'd always wonder if his house was actually on fire!? Of course he had to check just in case, cause, I mean, what if it actually was on fire and not just his CF nose and he didn't check? Afterall, he has a family to protect! But, night after night, and one mid-night house check after another confirming yet another all clear of a house fire & still just his damn campfire nose (and, although it's a real relief, it's a real pisser at the same time!)
Who wants to live like that!? Plus, obviously a scent like this would though everything off. Your taste, which completely throws your cooking off - you end up ruining everyone else's dinner because your buds are so off since all you smell is yucky non-indended smoke which totally affects your mood. Not to mention his new found resentment towards fire pits - screw smores now! So much for late night beer fests around the ANY fire now. Who need yummy, gooey smores anyways? They're stupid. :( Camping would never be the same since you feel like your permently living inside of a campfire. Where's the joy & relaxation in a wonderful, warmly lite bong fire now? Isn't that a campfires purpose? To be relaxing? WTF? Right? Life without smores? WT?
All this began to super piss him off. He's not a smoker, had not been around any campfires, or kind of smoke ar all? No recent forest fires, nothing at all to contribute to this constant smell of fire.
He began doing reserach, since no one else in the family confirmed the same symptoms & Dr's seemed to be at a loss. (HA! DOCTORS! WHAT A FREAKIN JOKE! BIG, LIKE- REALLY HUGE SUPRISE, THERE THAT ZERO DRS KNEW, HUH?!) Please forgive my sarcasm, for I myself having been struggling for over 15 years with my own battles, and DR seem to just bounce you from 1 to another. Easily dismissing you if your any bit of a comex nature. GOD FORBID they did there DR jobs and dig a little! Your screwed these days if you have anything more than an evident broken bone or red throat, called a "sore throat" - they seemed to have forgotten their hippacrotic oath that required them to swear, by a number of healing gods, to uphold specific ethical standards, and so on. Sadly, you must be your own advocate for you and search for your own remedy.
So, again, when I came across your post and plea's for some kind of relief, although much different than my situation, I just couldn't help but feel for you all and felt compelled to at least pass on what my Brother found to be his cure.
After much research on his own behalf he came across an simple blog, like this, where someone, like me, took the time to share their crazy cure.
Crazy as this sounds .... his answer was eliminating dryer sheets! FREAKIN DRYER SHEETS!
We have used dryer sheets for at least over 20 years minimum, and never, ever, had a problem before? Apparently their is some "new?" Chemical added to these or one becomes sensitive to it overtime. But, what ever the reason, after the use of zero dryer sheets, he no longer has CF Nose & is cured!! Problem solved!
I promise this to be 100% absolutley true has worked for him. I pray that it works for you all, too.
P.S.
It was any dryer sheet (bounce, downy, gain, generic brand, etc) and they still can use fabric softner, just not the static clingy boxed dryer sheets! He says every once in a while he'll pull an old shirt, towel, or sheet that hasn't been re-washed & dried w/out the sheets, and immediately starts smelling the campfire smoke again. But, so grateful that he now knows the solution. Andn such and easy and inexpensive one at that!
I hope this cures all of y'all as well, and saves your sanity. I wish you all happy and great smells, and pray that you can all begin to smell correctly again, and that you too, can make amends with firepits across the world, and are now able to sit, relax and enjoy an awesomely roaring fire on lazy fun summer nights, with lots of gooey smores and lots of cold ones!
Cheers!
This constant smell of smoke has been happening to me for a year now, but only on and off. It started up again yesterday after about a 5 month reprieve. The pattern has been that it will be constant for 2-3 weeks and then it will go away for a month or so and then come back.
I mentioned it to 2 doctors while visiting them for other reasons, and all I got was "I've never heard of that before". So I guess the thing to do is make a separate appointment for just that reason alone, and maybe with an ENT specialist.
I am going to try the dryer sheet non-usage trick and see if that helps in th mean time.
I recently met someone who was experiencing the exact same thing, but hers eventually went away, but then still comes and goes too. I'm surprised more doctors aren't aware of this issue.
Wishing anyone else who happens along this site the best of luck.
The big house is no longer needed, moved to condo to paint and carpet the house to sell it. Living in condo 6 weeks - NO smoke smell at all.
Perspective buyer had a radon test done, 12.4 - 3x EPA recommendations. I bought an electronic tester on Amazon ($200). Left it in the house 3 weeks. Long term test topped out at 18.6. I'm installing a radon remediation system in the house.
No scientific evidence, but I have to scratch my head and wonder if there isn't different sensitivity to chemicals such as radon. I wonder if I'm hyper sensitive to it, causing the smoke smell. I'm very glad the smoke smell has gone and not returned.
