I had my IUD placed in January 30, 2012. I weighed 135lbs. I work out every single day. 3days a week I just bike ride 6miles in 30mins. The other 4 days it's a bike ride and an hr of weight lifting.dingo not drink sodas, no sugar.eat do not eat meat and I do not eat more then 1300 calories a day and I also watch the times I eat. I am scheduling next Wednesday September 19, 2012 to have my Mirena removed because as I today I weigh 182lbs. My bothers mother is a personal trainer and she has been trying to help but as you can tell nothing as. My face had had more acne then when I was in high school and all my weight is my belly. I have also experienced light spotting fr a few minutes every time after sex for two months. I am always tired as sell as my body feels heavy and weak. I have been asked several times if I an having a boy if girl as well as I should be due anytime soon. Yes I look 9months pregnant my stomach is so purtruded. So for the women here that say its all in portion sizes and diets and exercising is just plan out wrong. My dr has tried duet olls and shots, neither helped and I have always been healthy. But unfortunately my body reacted different. I honestly thnk every person needs to go off their own body reactions and feelings. Because nI to bodies are the same. Talk to the dr and try different options. Becsuse my friend has the Mirena and she hasn't had a problem. As women though we need to stick together anI encourage each other. So the insensitive ones saying people aren't just trying hara enough to control theweight need to just shut up. This isn't high school to rub it in people's faces that your body's metabolism reacted different.
Two days ago, I weighed myself and I had gained 9kg in this time (19.8lbs.) I went to the Dr to have it out that night... no Pain at all. (I passed out from the pain when it was inserted)
This morning I woke up and had lost 5.2 lbs... My first weight loss since the insertion.
Based on the hundreds of comments that I have read around this, it seems that women that have had babies tend to gain weight on Mirena and those who havent dont. I gained a lot of weight while pregnant, however it came off rapidly from breast feeding alone. If I was tricking my body into pregnancy again, then ofcourse my body would hold onto every calorie it could thinking it would need that for milk one day.
Just a theory! Hopefully someone scientific will test this one day. :)
I had my Mirena IUD removed 2 months ago. I have lost 28lbs since.
I am also soooooooo angry! I have had this thing in for 1.5 years. I gained 25lbs in 2 months after about 9months of having it. My lifestyle has not changed at all since having it put in. Infact, I eat slightly better and have now been training for a half marathon. Most of the weight I have gained has been in my belly which when I have gained weight in the past it has been butt and thighs, NEVER belly. Just and example of how hard it is to lose weight, yesterday I ran 13kms, burned 1500 calories, ate less than 1500 calories and I was up 5lbs today. I'm some of it is water weight gain and a few other factors might be involved, but I should not have gained at all. How is this possible? It's being removed on Wednesday and I shall see what happens from there. I have also had a ton of issues with acne, whcih was the original purpose for removing it
I have had no weight gain after 5 years. If anything I have lost weight as I have been on a detox diet for the last 4 months. This involves juices and fresh veges, fish, whole grains, no dairy except yoghurt, no alcohol, and no added salt…including any processed foods. They all contain salt. Salt can be a real b****r because your cells are swollen…lose the salt and guaranteed you will lose at least 2 kilos right there. It takes a while for your tastebuds to adjust. Use dulse flakes, sumac and lemon or lime juice to zing up the flavour.

I am in the same position I had marina put in April of 2012 and I have a appointment to have it removed in a week I was 135 when I got it and a size 4 now I can’t squeeze into my size 8 I’m wearing 10 and weigh 167 as of this morning……. I also exercise regularly and have increased my activities trying to counter act the gain I am a healthy eater but have cut back on calories to help with the weight gain… I have even resorted to diet pills…. I still gain a pound per week with all that so it’s the IUD and it’s not worth it. My Question to you is after you took it out was it easy to lose the weight you had gained and how long did it take you to get back to your normal size?
I have been on Mirena for 4 and a half years. My son was born in May of 2008, I had it inserted in Sept of '08. I'm 5'3 and weighed 179 the day I delivered, about 150 when my Mirena was inserted, and now I weigh 116. I have not gained any weight, (obviously). I've been able to lose all my baby weight. I do, however have a BELLY. In comparison to the rest of my body, my belly is big. I have definition in my arms, back, and legs. I even have some definition in my upper abs, right beneath my ribs, but my lower belly is a "pooch". Birth control effects everyone differently- I haven't gained weight but I do think most of the posters are right about mirena tricking the body into thinking it's pregnant. I did "spot" the whole time I had it in for the most part. (Although you can buy an herb called Shepherd's Purse that you can steep in tea that makes it more manageable). I'm set to have it out next week, (I'm just tired of the spotting and I'm almost at the 5 year mark anyway). I'm more worried about the "Mirena Crash" when I get it taken out.
About my weight loss: I eat a pescetarian diet, no soda, soft drinks, minimal sugar and processed foods, I exercise several times a week, I take a multi-vitamin and omegas daily.
Oh, and I have not lost my sex drive at all on Mirena.
OMG i am having the SAME problem. So I was losing weight before I put in the Mirena about a month ago which was right after my postpartum check up. I was probably losing a lb to 2 lbs a week before I got the IUD inserted. I know I havent been eating more than usual but a week later I went to my physician for a check up I gained 4 lbs! I thought it could've been something I was eating or drinking or not drinking? I don't know but one month after that last check up I went back down 2 lbs... strange I Hope i can lose weight even with working out and dieting because it seems like most people can't lost any weight or gain any. GOOD LUCK to you!
Hi Ladies, Please read my story....
I have had Mirena for 2 yrs now, before I got it I made the effort to eat right & walk daily. I ended up loosing All of my weight. I'm 5 feet weight about 118-120, Since I've had this procedure done, all I have is regret... I ended up gaining 10lbs & can not loose it!! The most frustrating thing is that I excercise 4 days a week, 1 hour a day! I am drenched in sweat & I beat myself up by not eating all the yummy foods i want. Unfortuantely, I have not gone down on weight, I have weight 130lbs for almost 6 months.. I have been working out for 4 months!! I have decided to end this & take it out.
Hey
I have a similar story to what everyone is posting up here...it is so discouraging to exercise , diet and then even not loose a single point ....I got my mirena inserted a month and a half ago and since then have managed to loose hardly 3 pounds...3 pounds it is but that's not enough compared to the effort I put in working out and eating healthy...I do cheat here and there but not that much that I can't see results...plus I'm hypothyroid and on the pill...and don't know if it's the thyroid levels or the mirena or the combination of two that are not helping me to see any results...I'm visiting my doc tomorrow to discuss abt my weight issues and see what she has to say.... My family doc said that it is not impossible to loose weight with
mirena but it sure makes it harder to loose....most probably if condition stayed the same for long I'll be wanting to remove the mirena and get a copper IUD instead
I was able to lose weight. It took a lot of self control, and a hell of a lot of cardio and light strength training. I was extremely overweight, and lost 30-40 lbs in the course of 5 months. I did the insanity program and butt bible by Pauline Nordin plus Zumba 3 nights a week. After I was happy with the weightloss, I tried out tapout xt and I have bee able to tone up. but I am still not where I want to be
I have also stopped breast feeding my son after 4 years with him, 3 years with his sister, 7 straight years. after I weened my son my own personal hell began. I bloated uncontrollably, I was experiencing cramps and extreme nausea to where I couldn't do anything but lay down. I am still on mirena, but because I had finally stopped breast feeding my hormones went completely nuts. Has that happened to anyone else? It took 2 months for my body to recover from that. And since then I havent been able to drop any additional weight, just maintaining the same weight. And even all that weightloss I still can't seem to get rid of my prego looking belly....
I just wanted to reach out to people struggling to lose weight with mirena. I had removed over a month ago, Ive lost around 7lbs. A couple days after mirena was removed, my bloat instantly went away. The day after I was instantly in a happier mood, I honestly think it was cuz i was so relieved to have it out. When I had the mirena in I was going to the gym 5-6 days a week(no lie), weight training and cardio, I cut everything bad out of my diet, including pop, extra sugar..etc etc. Now ill be completely honest, once a week i would have chocolate but nothing like i had before. I could never lose weight on the mirena. ***Since the mirena has been removed Ive lost 7lbs,and heres the crazy part....Ive been working out maybe 2-3days a week, im not eating as clean on my diet, and i do have pop a couple times a week. and IM LOSING WEIGHT! ****
My doctor never fought me on taking out the mirena. She said she has several other patients with the same complaints. My other side effects included....horrible acne, it was scaring my face. Im 28 years old with 16 year old acne. Since being removed my face cleared up, I was always bloated, i kinda just got use to it. The only good thing was i had very very short periods. Oh yea putting it in was the worst pain i ever felt!
Now im trying a pill called minastrin, it does seem to have some side effects but overall its cake compared to the mirena. I dont recommend it to anyone, dont think your crazy.
