:Ok, this is about the vulvodynia or however it is spelled.......yea, overnight, bam! The itch is so profound, it's like impossible not to try and relieve which worsens the condition ten fold. I am over 50 yo, never had anything like this. I read that if you use shampoo in that area, it could be related.....which I sometimes do. I figure shampoo is similar to body wash and just sometimes grab it without much of a thought. Also, I read that hormonal defieciency could be involved. I am late in picking up my prempro from the pharmacy......it is a low dose estrogen replacement therapy, so I've gone like 4 days without......and that is when this condition exacerbated! Lastly, I have recently begun noticing very small areas on my arms and hands that may be psoriasis.....which I've never had before!! I do however recall that my father had a mild case, and my reading told me that the age 50 is often when symptoms begin, oh yay. Interestingly enough, psoriasis is some type of an auto-immune disorder.......and I've learned from, yes, reading......that this vulvodynia can also be from some type of auto-immune process. Could there be a common cause? It has worsened over the course of 3 days to the point that I can't really go anywhere...... ice packs help. Started off as a mild itch, and now when I urinate, it burns baby burnburnburn! So, I'm off to get my prempro.......some of the topical over the counter creams help for a tiny bit...like the benzocaine. But not for long. Wish me luck, this is a huge suck of a problem, and it is politically incorrect to go around clawing at one's crotch. :-(

57 year old: I saw on dr. oz this morning that women at that age may have a unusually dryer vagina causing redness itching burning or soreness. to bring it back to it's normal state, they have have pills that are inserted into the vagina and the hormones in it should get rid of any discomfort.

For the past 6 months I have been through much of the same. At first I thought I had a bladder infection and even though I tested negative multiple times i was put on antibiotics (Bactrim, Cipro) and I was tested for all Std's that came back negative.
I had burning when I urinated and sometimes very intense itchiness that was unbearable and I had to use monistat which only helps temporarily. Sex started becoming uncomfortable and out of the question which was very hard on my relationship. Anyway, after going to doctor after doctor I realized I probably had something called candidiasis. It's an overgrowth of yeast and after being on many antibiotics in my life and eating too much sugar it wasn't a surprise. It's very hard to get rid of and the "candida diet" is practically impossible to follow 100%. I tried Oil of Oregano, Garlic, probiotics etc. they helped but didn't cure my problem. For the past two months I have been taking a product called Threelac, it's a probioitc supplement with different healthy bacteria and one that eats your excess yeast. Since taking this product my life has changed dramatically, I feel so much better finally. My candida was so bad that my allergies were getting worse, I started becoming sensitive to wheat products, having heart palpitations, constant abdominal pains, irritable bowels, frequent urination, depression and panic attacks. Within a few months I felt like my life was spinning out of control and within the last two months of taking this product I finally have my life back. I know it sounds too good to be true and I thought it was at first but it has helped me tremendously. I also take with it Oxygen elements which you add a few drops to water and it adds oxygen to your body because yeast cannot survive in an oxygenated environment. If anything, stop eating sugars and simple carbs for a few days and see if it makes a difference. If so you might have candida. I hope this helps and don't always believe what doctors tell you, they have screwed me over more than you can imagine.

I've been treated for a urinary tract infection, was on meds just in case it was herpes, had a Pap smear and been treated for a yeast infection. This simply won't be cured! It hurts during intercourse, so I've been deprived of that. It burns all the time, itches every once in awhile and is sore like I'm on my period - when I'm not. Its very very red and swollen, but it doesn't LOOK any different (ie: sores or such) So what do I do? Its ruining my life and no doctor yet has a CLUE what to do with me! :.(

Did you get checked for a condition called vulvadynia. It is a real condition that causes the symtoms you describe. Eating foods withs oxilites, like strawberries seem to aggravate it. Not all doctors are up on this condition.

I've been dealing with this issue for sometime now & what helps me is 2 ibiprophine(for inflammation), take an antihistamine and believe it or not put a cold pack on the area for 20min then 20min off then another 20min on and it should feel much better!

Man oh man......we hit 50, 51, etc. and all this weird stuff begins....whew! Same problem here yet now I'm finding that different areas on my body are becoming itchy. Not like the crotch-crazed zap of intense itch relief necessary that requires I drop my groceries and bolt for the ladies, but little rashy-looking areas about the size of a quarter. Not there yesterday, yet boom! Now on both ankles in mirror-like areas...I mean same exact area on both ankles. Never have I had stuff like this! I am wondering if the mentioned medication....oh shoot, now I can't find it... something like ibu??fine is it rx only? I've tried benadryl, monistat, vagisil, calamine, hydrocortisone (only what is marked for the 'feminine area), garlic, yogurt (hee-hee), neosporin, camphophenique (well grandma always said it cured everything!), frozen peas - ice packs do help for a bit. Actually everything helps for a 'bit'....nothing like the ole wall-paper removal scraper...."aahhhhhh" joke.... Of course intense scratching is sometimes just the only way, but if the skin breaks, then there is the pain with urination. Someone mentioned something about sugar intake. Now that could be something since I am an acute/chronic chocoholic. I'll try cutting way back and see what happens. Once I had a bartholomew cyst, but that was from shaving (ingrown hair I think) which I never do anymore cause that action alone causes itching. Plus, with that, there was a large, couldn't miss it cyst mass that formed. I don't have anything like that but I do notice on the inner labia some internally formed lumps that accompany areas of intense itching. They go away and appear in a different area, sometimes not there at all. Itching is mostly externally located on the 'mons' area or just at the junction where the hair starts. I know this is graphic, and where do these words come from... like labia? mons? Who picks these words. Anyway, I just want it to go away!! It does make being out and about problematic....it starts with a little tingle, and then it's off to the races! Fortunately I am not in an intimate relationship so I don't have to fight that battle....there's no way that area wants company! I am on prempro (estrogen replacement...low dose), began this for my hot flashes and had been on it quite a while before this other started so don't think it is related. I went off of it to see, and it seemed to worsen. Why don't doctors know about this kind of suffering? It's obviously not that unusual, so what's the deal? Maybe it is an auto-immune syndrome of sorts. I also seem to be allergic to something that I sleep on because sometimes my ear lobes become scarlet in color and have the same sort of scratch or die intensity. This resolves over a few days with hydrocortisone cream, I only mention because of the similarity of the intense painful itch! What is happening to me???? I've always been rather healthy! Now I can't seem to lose weight and the soles of my feet are tender, plus my hands....the juncture of little fat pads/thumb bases are stiff and sore. I guess that is arthritis. Yuck!!! Ponce Deleon! Where is that fountain of youth!!! Oh yeah, one of the medications I am on is making my hair fall out!! Fortunately, I've always had.....not thick hair, but alot of hair. But it is straight and fine and I can't lose any more or it will be obvious! I guess most of this is all part of aging, but my momma never told me bout no crazy, eye-crossing itching in my privates! I've tried monistat internal treatment as well as 'Rid' to rule out some type of vermin!! No change! It's definitely not 'vaginal dryness' or a uti...way different. Waa waa! Thanks for listening! ....from an itchy 50ish woman

Hi everyone I'm 30 and I'd just like to say I had went to a party and was there for hours I had thick leggings on it was hot in the place went home took my pants off and my vagina burned BAD!! Of course I thought yeast infection I ran out and got monistat that burned me more, so I went to my gyno to be told it wasn't yeast it was bv(bacterial inf) I did the antibiotic insert and still symptoms persisted. Went back to the gyno for my female doctor to tell me nothing was wrong with me meanwhile I'm itchy and burning.
Finally after the 3rd visit the male doctor found fungus and thrush not IN my vagina but in the creases of my outer lips! I was thankful he found it, it's almost like jock itch for women. You can't really see fungus. I went on diflucan and clotrimozale and nystatin. It still wasn't going away. But what I've learned is I need to do the cream for at least 6 weeks consistently or else fungus immadiatly grows back and you have to apply it in the lip folds not the inner vagina. That's why we get misdiagnosed cause they swab inside.
Anyway I'm starting to feel better but my vagina is still sore even when I pee. My doc says it could be my harmones that's why I feel worst before and after period?!? So I just started a low dose birth control pill, let's pray but it makes sense cause I do sweat alot even when I'm cold, that's prob what caused my fungus in the first place. So try the nystatin in-between your vaginal lips for 6 weeks
