Hi I recently had 2 ingrown toenails removed. I had one removed on my right foot and one on the left. Both on the big toe. I couldn't get very much sleep because of the constant pain afterwards if I woke up in the middle of the night with pain I figured out if you walk around a little bit the pain goes down like you can't feel it at all. But only my left big toe hurts I think It's because that one was the one that was infected. This is Coming from a 14 year old boy the procedure itself isnt to bad!

I can't believe you went to the emergency room for an ingrown toenail. That isn't an emergency - maybe that's why the NP treated you poorly.

I had a wedge resection done on my big toe. I spent the night reading post after post about how much the needless to numb the pain hurt. Many said it was the worst pain in their lives. I was a nervous wreck all night and up to my appointment today.

When I got there my doc explained what he was going to do which I already knew. I asked about the pain of the needles and he said it will sting a little. First he sprayed my toe with something that made my toe very cold. Did not hurt at all. Then he said he would have to give me four shots and I was ready to bolt but I withstood worse in combat so I held my ground and prepared for the worst. I did not even feel the first needle go in, or the second, third or fourth which he said will be a little painful. No pain at all and I was relaxed. Of course when he cut out the ingrown nail I did not feel a thing. It was painless from start to finish. I have had injections into my head. armpits, penis and other areas of my body. Just last week I had several shots in-between my gums and lip that made the paid shoot all the way up to my eyes. This did not hurt at all. Not even a pinch.

I think that those who post tend to be the ones who felt pain. Usually happy campers do not post and that goes for all subjects. I just wanted to post as much as possible in case there are others like me scared to death for no reason at all because a few posters said it was very painful. The most painful part of the procedure was filling out their 17 page form of information. That was painful and took more time than the operation.

So don't worry. I do not know if things have changed since most of the old posts I read or some people are more sensitive top pain than I am. I will recommend that you only use a doctor who uses that freezing stuff to numb the toe before the injection, uses a very small needle and has a good technique for giving the shots.

For me, not at all. Did not even feel a pinch and my toe was swollen and sort to the touch First my toe was sprayed with something very cold to numb it and then I had 4 injections. Two at the top and two at the bottom. Did not feel a thing. I was talking throughout it and the doc kept asking me if I was OK. I kept told him that I was not feeling any pain at all.

It is now 10 hours after the surgery and my toe is no longer numb. I am feeling very mile pain but no more than I felt before the operation. I was told that by morning the pain will be gone. I was told to keep the dressing on for 24 hours mostly to keep pressure again the toe to stop the bleeding. The blood was less than when I removed a piece of the nail myself over 6 months of trying every home remedy I could fine.

Tomorrow I will soak my foot in water and dish detergent. You heard that right. Dish detergent that is anti bacterial. No more Epsom salts. I was told that is bad for people with Diabetes. I was told by my general MD to use Epsom salts so you really do need to do your own research. Once I soak, I take off the dressing, put some Neosporin on it and cover with a regular band aid. I go back in a week so they can take a look and make sure it is healing and not infected. That is it. I will probably need the same thing done but with an acid that prevents the nail from growing again. There is an issue using that when you have diabetes but my diabetes was based on one test out of 6 where it went higher than normal due to me having a last hurrah before my 65th birthday. I ate every bad food and lots of candy before cutting it all out for good.

So that is it. No pain and little after the numbing goes away.

I just had my ingrown toenail on my left big toe removed almost two weeks ago. The Dr. froze two areas by my toe before giving me the shots. The freezing part hurt since he did it for at least 30sec in each spot and the shots hurt like hell! I did not feel the removal of the ingrown toenail. Dr took a slice of nail from both sides of my big toe from bottom to the top. The slice on the right side is really deep. After having it removed the Dr. said I could continue with my normal activity but to soak my foot for 15min and to put antibiotics drops on the toe twice a day. I have been following the Drs. directions but I have been having a lot of pain since day one and I am still having pain. The deep cut on the right side of the toe hurts and it feels like I have bone pain from where the Dr. stuck me in between big toe and second toe. It seems after looking online I am not the only one with a lot of pain. I go back for my follow up in two days. I wonder why some people have a lot of pain and others don’t? Maybe it has something to do with the way the Dr. does it? I don’t know but I’m supposed to have my other big toe done and I’m just sitting here thinking Hell No!! My other toenail doesn’t hurt so I am not getting it done, lol.
