my tonsils are usually normal but since ibveen around a cat for 2 months and my tonsils have been flareing up with the tonsil stones ive been taking prescription clardin that my doctor prescribed me and said that it was the safest thing to take while pregnant well the tonsil swellings gone down but i still get little pieces of tonsil stones and my tonsils hurt. well my husband who has been kissing me went ot the doctor and they told him he has strep throat he is not allergic to the cats but somehow when he kissed me with my bacteria infection of the throat it changed into strep throat for his body.i am allergic to cats and the last time i had this reaction with tonsil stones was when iw as at my sisters for 4 months with all her animals and cats and my tonsils were swollen up so bad that i could not breathe everytime i went to the doctor for it they told me i only had a sore throat they have never been able to diagnose this tonsil puss problem. my mother told me it is called a bacteria infection of the throat from allergies because the tonsils act as a sheild for ur body and what ur body doesnt need it holds it in the tonsils so if u were around something ua re allergic to or was around mold then ur tonsils will react and tell you. so so far the claradin works it will help take the swelling down and reduce the tonsil balls. i hope this helps i am no doctor but this is what i know if it so far.

Hi, for those of you who have tonsil stones, how big do yours get? I have had a white lump on my tonsil for years. I have never coughed anything up, it just stays there. When I first saw it, it was the size of a pea, now it's about the size of a grape and kind of hangs down from my tonsil. Does this sound like a tonsil stone? TIA
They are Tonsil Stones people. If they are solid, creamish to yellowish in color, come up when you cough or sneeze and when you squish them they stink like high heaven that's what they are. I have found the answer! WATER PIC-yes I ordered one of these and put Lysterine in instead of water and blasted the hell out of my tonsils, particularly behind them where I couldn't see and wha la.....threee yellowish large nuggets came out with a couple smaller ones. It felt so great!!!!!! My tonsils were a little sore afterwards but were all well in the morning. I figure that they will toughen up the more I flush them out. Good Luck.
I am 28 getting my tonsils removed next month, with Kaiser, will cost around 6 or 7 hundred with insurance. Once I saw the ent he said right away it's up to me. He will take them out,-tonsils-no problem.
i had tonsil stones for the longest and only got them when around animals. it seems to me that everytime i had mine flare up it was around critters. i just moved into another apt animal free and my tonsils swelling has gone down and im not having to take allergy medicine anymore. the best way to clear ur tonsils without stabbing them or hurting yourself is go to the doctor get on prescription claradin which is loratidine 10 mgs and that will take the swelling down and u will notice they will drain as you are sleeping. i can smell the stinky tonsils in the morning and just cough up yellow stuff which is what is in ur tonsils but without the allergy meds they turn into balls clogged into the pores of your tonsils u will notice u will have a little opening most of the time inside of the tonsils themselves. do not use hydrogen peroxide as if that gets into your throat way it can cause it to boil up over and over and hurt you really badly just use listerine to gargle with. u could use a q tip and put barely any hydrogen peroxide on it not even enough to swallow and dab it on ur tonsils that will help but just dont get to much near your throat passage way.
this is how I got rid of my tonsilstones ...
I drink a lot of warm water (the warmer the better); I drink tea (without sugar) whenever possible. This seems to keep phlegm (from post nasal drip, etc) flowing. In this way it is not able to thicken behind the throat, trapping food, and forming tonsil stones. If you think of tonsilstones in this way, you can come up with your own simple solutions; e.g. inhaling warm water vapour.
for most people with tonsilstones, the above should solve the situation; for others, this would help reduce the bad breath while you continue seeking solutions.
In the past, I have tried out Oral rinses, toothpastes, etc from TheraBreath (Dr. Katz). Although I found his products good, I think they are more for bad breath resulting from gum disease, etc; they can't do the job of HEAT described above. So, in the invent that lots of warm tea fails, you can proceed to Therabreath.
I hope this helps ... feedback would be appreciated!
PS: you should observe improvements within a week (if this is indeed your solution)

Sorry, what and id**t, the bacteria in your mouth is not a good thing and if routinely causes infection then it is advised to take them out. I only have dairy with cereal and don't drink caffeine but for a glass of ice tea at resturants a few times aweek! As for sugar, occasional at best. The remedies mentioned seems a bit silly when you consider that yes it is surgery but the tonsils are there to fight for us when we are at child age when we are building our immune system. After that f we feel tired and have aches and pains over it then it is working against us. I am a strong Christian so your post about God gave you this and that....he did yes, but I also wear glasses and take tylenol for head aches on occassion. This is not an offence to God, shame on you. I am not going to jump on a trampoline, drink brandy and all the other "remedies," I have decided to in 2 weeks to be brave and have my tonsils removed. I have found NO ONE that regreted it after the 2 weeks of feeling miserable of course.
Hi Guys,
I have had the same situation. I am a 26 year old male. I had those tonsil stone for several years before I got so tired of having a bad dirty taste in the back of my throat causing me to be uncomfortable around people. I always had gum in my mouth. Finally I decided to visit the doctor. I was referred to a ENT. The ENT told me that the reason why I had my tonsil stones was because of my tonsil pockets (pores) were slightly bigger. Small food particles and bacteria would get trapped in there causing the stones. He recommended me taking them out.
As of July 2008. I had mine removed and I feel great! It has made a big improvement in my life. I have more confidence and I do not have to worry about my breath smelling bad due to the tonsil stones. No more bad taste, no more tonsil stones and was worth the money spent removing them.
For those who do not have the funds to pay for it, you can help set up payment plans with the doctor's billing department. That is what I did. I hope this helps everyone. I know how it feels to be in your shoes. God bless you!

I had tonsil stones for about a year and I tried everything from antibiotics to trying to get them out manually... and I went on a million message boards and websites but I found one method that works and I have been tonsil stone free for over a year!
It takes about 2 weeks to completely get rid of them at least for me!
Over the next two weeks it does take dedication
and perseverance but it is worth it!
1) Get Antibiotics from your doctor.
2) Purchase a strong high quality mouthwash. Do not use cheap stuff...I did and my throat was irritated for quite awhile. So I had to restart my regimen. I then used Rembrandt and it was great!
3) Cut out all dairy, and red meat product after lunch AND brush WELL when you do eat dairy. Cut out as much sugar and sugar substitutes as possible. (keep in mind this is only 2 weeks)
4) Get a tongue scrapper!
5) Purchase Sea Salt
Okkk
The first part sucks but it was necessary. I gargled with Rembrandt mouthwash and gagged. Yes it's rough, make sure you're near a sink...because you really have to get it to the back of the throat. BUT! after I choked and sputtered and coughed I had about 5 or 6 stones come out!!!
I then brushed my teeth and scrapped my tongue vigorously. I also started my 2 weeks of Antibiotics now... I know that antibiotics do not remove TS however it does help with prevention of them reforming. As well as help with post nasal drip which is a main cause of Tonsil Stones.
I brushed after every meal. I completely cut out red meat from of my diet and all coffee... and I really cut back on dairy and sugar intake, Also I didnt drink soda... I know it's tough but if you can't completely cut soda/coffee/meat/dairy/sugar out than cut back as much as possible and don't consume these after 6pm. That way you have at least two brushings in between consumption and sleep.
I also brought my toothbrush with me to work so I could brush after lunch.
When my throat was sore from gargling the mouthwash 2 times a day I would do a warm salt water rinse instead which isn't as affective but still helps and it soothes the throat.
Each day I brushed my teeth 4 times.
Morning
Lunch
Get Home
Before Bed
And Scrapped my tongue in the morning and before bed
I have been tonsil stone free since this 2 week regimen. And I became healthier too. I still have cut back on all the allergens that can cause TS but I still indulge once in awhile.
Having TS is like being a diabetic...you cant cure it but you can treat it... it just takes some will power.
GOOD LUCK!

I have suffered from Tonsil stones for several years. I tried using a water pik and it does work to blast them out, but it was painful. What I really wanted was to find a way to PREVENT them from forming in the first place and I have found that. Every morning I fill a 10mL syringe (you can buy them at a local pharmacy) with warm salt water, and I gently irrigate both tonsils with the water. I have been doing this every morning for about 4 months and have been tonsil stone free for that whole time! This is a very natural gentle way to keep the tonsil crypts clean and stone free. If you do this EVERY morning, then you will prevent the large stones from forming. If you suffer from morning breath, consider repeating also before you go to bed. This is much cheaper than other products for sale, but works as well. I imagine you could irrigate with mouth wash rather than salt water but I have not tried that.
hey jesus freak... look, the "stones" had nothing at all to do with what vonnie was eating when he was having these "tonsil stones"... they are caused simply by bacteria that get caught in the crevices of the tonsils. if you don't have tonsils, or perhaps you have smaller tonsils, this is less likely to occur... for those of us less fortunate, we have to suffer with this bad breath, and annoying feeling from time to time, simply because we have larger tonsils, therefore larger crevices to collect bacteria, mucus and matter (i.e. food particles on occasion). there's no reason to get all preachy about "god the creator" and all that. it's a medical forum... no place for god here. and what you put into your body is not the cause of ALL ILLNESS that's just crazy talk. i came to this site looking for remedies for an ailment, not a bible lesson... so if you could please refrain from being holier than thou from here on out, that would be greatly appreciated... as if you don't put horrid wretched things into your body... please, not one of us is free of "sin" as you bible thumpers say... it's human nature to do wrong. just as it is natural to get tonsilloliths (tonsil stones for those of you who don't know any better) i've said my two cents, now go pray for my salvation...
So whoever wrote to use hydrogen peroxide on tonsil stones is a GENIUS! And my hero. It worked! I'd tried everything--tweezers, popping them out with just a q-tip, gargling grapeseed extract, using a dropper to suck it out, etc. and nothing worked except putting hydrogen peroxide directly on it a lot and then pressing next to it. It was huge! Gross little sucker too. So thank you!
Except now my only problem is that I have a huge gaping hole where the tonsil stone was. Is that going to shrink back to normal or get filled with junk again? Help! I just want a normal throat with normal tonsils!

grapefruit seed extract garggled and they have an information video!
I had a tonsillectomy a few months ago, and it was GREAT!!
I would highly recommend it to anyone suffering and can afford it. I had suffered for atleast 5 years with tonsil stones. I cleaned them out atleast twice a week. I finally decided (after getting engaged to a nurse) to get the operation. It was well worth it. I just found a local ENT doctor and he said it was no big deal to have it done as an adult.
I had it done at an outpatient surgery center. The surgery took about 30 mins and I went home that day. I even got to see them in a jar afterwards! The first few days were fine, no pain at all. I could swallow and drink liquids. There was some pain about day 3-7. I had some good meds and had no problem doing daily activiites. I could have gone to work, but the meds made me sleepy. I was fine and operational ay day 7 and went on vacation. I stopped noticing any swallowing issues from pain about day 8 or 9.
Honestly it was the best decision. No more yucky stones, clean breath! It ended up costing me $1000 after my health insurance paid 70% of it.
