I went through the exact same thing. My doctor said to take time to think about it before removing my tonsils. It's very evasive and I may be better just trying less evasive ways to help. You use your finger? My stones are way too deep and openings too thin to do that with my finger. Plus my finger would set off my gag reflex to no avail. I like to use a small flashlight to shine on the area and use my free hand to gently pick with the crevices with a dulled plastic toothpick. It's the only way for me to get all of them. I just pick the closest one to the surface and squish the area gently next to the crevice and the next starts forming àt the surface of the crevice reasy to remove. I do this every second day. Luckily it's only on one side. The worst part it now I'm noticing bigger ones forming where it feels like my tonge meets my throat. I cant see them but when I feel them matured in there I know it's time... I relax my throat, drop my tonge down as much as I can to apply pressure, I tilt my head forward slightly and cough in little puffs or bursts. 4-5 times will do it. That's when the you see the big ones. They wind up on your tonge or out in front of you. They are bigger than the ones I see in my tonsils and usually more mature (you can tell by the colour being darker and the larger size). I do this about once a week.. so I guess what I want to know is was my doctor right? Shouldn't I get my tonsils removed along with these crypts at the top of my throat? Its progressiveley gotten worst over the last 5 years. Ive also gotten better at getting them out myself but its a terrible thing to have to go through all the time. Isn't it sever enough yet to just get rid of the tonsils all together once and for all??

Hi I know this post is from a year ago.... just curious to see how this has been working for you and does your throat still hurt you?

Yes it is currently happening to me now! I've tried everything from salt water to even buying this oxygenated mouth wash. This has helped loosen it up because It moves more than it did a few days ago when my sinus started nothing me. (Exactly when I started feeling this thing) I thought it was going to come out today but I just started gagging and ended up swallowing it. I don't know what to do now but I told my mom I want my tonsils removed or antibiotics. :(((( I can't even concentrate on my school work, sleep, eat, drink, nothing. I just want it out

It's actually hiding behind your uvula. I had my tonsils removed a year ago. And today just coughed a tosil stone. And when I got back home, I used waterpic with different angles to test every area in my mouth trying to find out where did the stones come from. When the waterpic squirted to my uvula(above the back of the tongue), water went to my nasal and came out from my nose. When I blow my left nose, three small chunks of tonsil stones came out... this is frustrating. I'm not sure if I need another surgery to remove the pocket hiding behind my uvula...
Sorry I just saw this post today as I was searching for my symptoms. Hope it helps.

I found one way to consistently dislodge my tonsil stones: RUNNING! I've had them for many years and they are deep in my throat/sinuses so I've never been able to see them. But every time I go jogging, even for one mile, they become dislodged during or shortly after my run. Im not saying this will work for everyone but if you're "running" out of options it certainly can't hurt to try running a couple times a week to see. :) I also noticed that mine occur when I smoke so try to not smoke ciggerates or if you smoke weed switch from pipe/joints to vapor. I hope someone out there finds some relieve, good luck!

You'd want to call an E.N.T. ( ear, nose, throat Dr.).

This is literally the most uneducated and misinformed answer that one could possibly have.

I had a tonsillectomy may 2016 to rid tonsil stones. Eleven months later still feel lump left side of throat, extremely bad breath and very itchy left ear. Returned to ent on 3 different occasions for this problem but to no avail. Prescribed antibiotics but no help gargling with warm salt water. Mouthwash but no help. Any ideas or suggestions

Yes, I have hypothyroidism and seem to get them more often now than before I was diagnosed. I HATE IT.

Did u have your adenoids out as well? That's likely where the stones are coming from.

I get these stones and tonsil pain quite often over past 11 years and not sure if the tonsil swelling and pain are as result of stones or other way, or maybe I got an immune disease or not because i have had four H-V tests that cameback negative though first couple were early in Window period despite an Rna test. Did a couple home tests as well but they say healthcare workers can test out false negative. Anyhow I'm desperate. Saw 6 Ents and each one had various opinions. Got major acid reflux and throat seems inflammed. Been on antibiotics before but no cure. Recently tried rinsing with salt water and listerine but think i over did it and have a few red burn marks on soft palate. Going to give up coffee and dairy. Anyone else have advice? Thanks.

I do believe these tonsil stones can cause unrelated symptoms as you would normally find in more common diagnosis..I mean not necessarily saying they do or dont cause flu like symptoms or even symptoms related to the flu at all..but I do know for myself I feel nauseous as direct result of tonsil stones!

I was told by my dr that good oral hygiene helps keep from getting tonsil stones as I’ve only had them 3 times in the last few months but I brush my teeth and rinse daily and floss and see my dentist on a regular basis so I don’t know what other advice I could even offer to you....I can’t imagine having them for as long as you have....I hate having them and only have not very long...
