They not going to because all they care about is money. As long as people stay sick they stay with a pay check. That's it that's all.

I have had both Paragard, the non-hormonal copper IUD, and now Liletta, which is pretty much the exact same thing as Mirena. I wonder how many of the women who have posted here before have had unprotected sex before they got their IUD's? The reason I wonder, is because sperm is naturally very acidic and can and will throw off the PH balance of a vagina, which is normally very alkaline. So I would personally not jump to the conclusion that it is the Mirena that is causing BV and chronic infections. It could simply a PH balance issue that many of the women here might have not been exposed to before because they were using condoms and not being ejaculated in.

I came to these forums because since getting the Liletta inserted, I haven't had the same, IMMEDIATE smell/BV issues after sex that I had with Paragard. Which made me wonder if there was something strange happening with the Paragard. And then I wondered if Mirena/Liletta had the same issues.

I definitely think switching to Liletta/Mirena HELPED with my BV so far. With Paragard, I would get the strange smells within a few hours after having sex and having my partner ejaculate in me. With Liletta I do not, and seem to be able to keep everything balanced with my daily PH balancing probiotic pills. I also have begun eating yogurt everyday and drinking lots of water. I highly recommend getting some PH balance pills that are formulated for women (look on Amazon for the best prices--I personally use RePHresh Pro-B and it has been great--there are a ton of options and I'm sure they're all great). I was also having a lot of UTI issues and since taking probiotics, I have not had a single one (seriously--I was getting them ALL THE TIME before and it was driving me CRAZY). Another thing I use is a vaginal wash that is designed to maintain PH balance. Also can be found OTC at any drugstore or Amazon.

Definitely recommend trying to keep things balanced down there and giving the IUD a fair chance before jumping to the conclusion that it is the problem! Good luck, ladies.

My experience after sex with my partner has never actually started up my issues with BV and we have had unprotected sex once or twice before I decided to get it. basically always had issues with BV and yeast infections even before I was sexually active. The mirena seems to have aggravated it even more so though. I struggled for a good 4 months trying everything to get rid of it including all of the probiotics under the sun. Nothing helped. They simply do not work with an active/severe infection. They do not cure. They possibly prevent but I have no evidence of that. I tried rounds of the metro pills, too. Obviously didn't work. so i went back to clinic and was officially diagnosed with recurrent BV (ya think?) and was given the metro gel and I tried it for the first time thinking it would never work. Well, for some reason it did work.
I've been BV free for over a month. I had a recent bout with a terrible YI. got a perscription for flucasole and it's cured now too. HOPE to God all of this will calm down now bc damn its been 6 months of one thing after another and all for birth control. I will not be removing my mirena. I really do love it and thank goodness it exists. But this has been hell and honestly every sign points to the mirena aggravating the problem and it makes plenty of sense as it is a new foreign object in your cervix and your body is GOING to react. i think giving it time definitely is worth it but man I know it's frustrating and horrible. But I'd say if you can't find relief after half a year to a year and exhausted ALL treatments, then seek other kinds of BC. evidence suggests all of this is the IUD. It's just perfectly logical.

I had unprotected sex for 9 years with no BV ever until the Mirena. The BV only went away after getting it taken out. Not worth the frustration and not worth the danger to my body. My friends love thiers, but it is NOT for me.

Okay, I've been on Mirena 2 years now and I've dealt with all the symptoms because of the convenience of it. Its turning into an inconvenience now at this point and I'm weighing the pro's and cons...

The first 6 months having it in, I bled basically non stop. When I wasn't full blown bleeding, I had smelly discharge. I had never before had any smells..not even a UTI...ever.

After the periods became more "normal"..that was around a year of having it. The second year having it i still have issues with bacteria and PH Imbalances. Ive had to take pills to balance my ph which worked immediately but thats what I mean by an inconvenience. Ive never had to even think of my ph balance before....I refuse to have to take pills.

So Now, 2 years in. this month my period did not come as expected. But i am having period symptoms. I shouldve gotten my period last week but instead its just the smelly discharge. I clean up with apple cider vinegar to combat the bacteria which does work...but its an inconvenience.
Now Im wondering if my periods are going to go away completely. That would be nice but Im still having every other period symptom.
I'm also wondering if my weight issues are because of Mirena, the bloat, lack of concentration....

I am really tempted to take it out but I don't want another baby right now. So I am torn.

Overall it hasn't been unbearable. I don't think I would do well on the pill because i believe I am already hormonal enough...lol. I just hate contraception in general.

they have these tablets in the intimate section of the pharmacy that balance your ph. I think thats the issue. you take one a day and i really recommend them. its called RePhresh and its just probiotics for your vagina. My symptoms weren't as extreme as yours but I was having smelly discharge and after 2 days on the probiotics I dried up and had no issues. I took the whole serving which was 30 tablets in that month and didnt feel the need to stay on them unless I have another episode so what I do when I have an odor...I take a bath with white vinegar and iodized salt and soak in it. Tea tree oil is great too. And at work I keep a bottle of apple cider vinegar diluted with water and wash up after i use the restroom. This all has worked in controlling discharge and smell. I think its a matter of ph balance. the vagina should be slightly acidic and a lot of things knock the balance. just try RePhresh!!!!! Best of luck, and know that you aren;t alone!

I had the Mirena for 11month and I took it out myself because the yeast infections we're so bad. And it been it been 6 month since I took it out am still having problems with yeast infection prior to the Mirena I never had that problem. If you are having that many issue with I advised you to take it out. Most likely you are allergic to it. And the threat on the Mirena get infected super easy.

Same here I have had the Mirena for about 3 months now and I have been getting BV and yeast infections more so often than anything I've ever witnessed before...it's extremely bothersome because when I'm at work I'm itchy or if I am working out at the gym and I get sweaty it's even more itchy. I think I am going to be returning back to my GYN as this is the second time it's happened and I have had testing done in June so it isn't an std just an extreme case of a bad yeast infection

Good luck! Even after taking the mirena out I am riddled with this Oder. it's the worst. Nothing seems to keep it away now. I got off of all BC just to let my body regulate its hormones and I'm still getting the fishy smell? I am beyond annoyed with this. It is in fact a side effect of Mirena btw. Your Dr just like mine had zero clue. I fear this will be around forever now due to Mirena. My quality of life is certainly altered due to this.

You know why they don't tell us, because they see us as their costumers not Patients... Their gain if we keep coming back for visits and more medicines..

I had the Mirena put in on 7-14-17, since then I have had 3 Yeast infections, for the first month and a half I had heavy to light bleeding coming and going as it pleased making it impossible to be prepared for any "mishaps". The itching I get with these infections is the most uncomfortable and absolutely unbearable thing I have EVER felt. I also get clear odorless discharge and even worse and more embarrassing a mucousy stringy discharge that I have never experienced before in my life. I also noticed that I have constant cramping and an uncomfortable feeling and lately feel pressure in my vagina and am going to schedule an appointment to see if the Mirena has shifted. I had a bad feeling about placing a foreign object in my body but I figured the Dr's know what they are talking about and that so many other women get it but you never hear of these symptoms until you go google searching for them when they happen to you. I am so uncomfortable and feel nasty, cant enjoy my sex life. I had to buy special soap from Vagisil and use wipes and creams in order to even make it through my day with out dragging my butt on the carpet like a dog lol. Its unfortunate that this form of birth control doesnt work for me or my body chemistry. I will definitely be doing some more research when I chose a new option!! Has anyone had any good or bad experiences with the DEPO shot???
