I had this for a short time (1-2 weeks) before the pain wouldn't allow me to swallow at all and the medium-grade fever just wouldn't go away. I had to go to 2 different ERs. The first gave me my officially unofficial diagnosis of mono. The second one kept me over night to replace fluids I had lost. They gave me steroids, antibiodics, pain meds, nausea medicine and probably one or two other things. When I left they prescribed me 5 days of steroids (plus pain and nausea meds, which I didn't need any more). I don't know how they did it, but after that night (and especially after that 5 days), it was like I had never been sick.

Hiya i have the same problem as you kind of, ever since I was a baby doctors were always freaked out by how massive my tonsils were. No one did anything about it, however, when I was about six I was going to have my tonsils out but we never got round to it. I am a teenager now, and I have been to see the specialist at the hospital before. I had this telescope thing up my nose and down my throat and they couldn't find anything wrong and said my tossils werent massive just a bit big. But anyway I kept getting sore throats and I had trouble swallowing things and food went down slow, I couldn't drink juice because it stung my throat so bad, it was agony in my throat and ears every time i sneezed. I then had a bareum swallow at the hospital, and again they couldn't find any problem. I stopped seeing the specialist but it still really hurts and now i cant sing. I know that sounds kinda stupid but whenever I try to sing, espesically quite high my voice just cracks and it hurts so bad and sounds awful, my music teacher always has a go at me for not singing and it is so frustrating! I have had trouble singing for a long time but i never told the ppl at the hospital. Also I feel tired a lot of the time too! I also get headaches and can never get to sleep at night. I understand that you don't want surgery 4 having tonsils out, I feel exactly the same way! Don't worry though, I am exactly the same and hopefully we can find out what caused this! Hope you feel better soon XxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxX

You need your tonsils removed. It is a common surgery and that is a sign of needing them removed. ask about it.

I started experiencing this last year around the winter time. I was working at a restaurant with a patio I thought the walking in and out in high and lower temperatures caused the swollen tonsils. I went to different doctors but any took me serious but just prescribed antibiotics. That first winter was horrible, for two weeks I spent day and night in my bed in excruciating pain trying any and every homemade remedies until just constant gargling of alcohol free mouth wash and cough drops helped me get through out the day. Its been a year now, and my tonsils have remained somehow swollen the entire time, even though it wasnt painful it was very uncomfortable, and I would loose much of my voice most of the time, my friends sometime couldnt understand what I was saying. From time to time it was a matter of day by day it might bother me it might not. All year long Ive been having allergies, continuous mucus and sniffing almost every other two weeks. I have an are of my palate swollen and Ive notice darkening in my gums also. Recently as the winter approaches, and living in Texas in the allergy season, my sinuses are the worst, sometime I sneeze gradually for 15mts non stop and mucus drips down my nose, its horrible. Than I notice two small dark spots in my palate, when I touch it with my nose It itched so bad I started sneezing non-stop.

Also my left ear is always itching or hurting, my face itches from my chin to my forehead at random times, I have very dry scalp (Issue Ive never had in my life) and I've experience mental lost I forget simple stuff, how to spell things how to even call things, fatigue and lost of interest in almost everything I liked to do.

Now I've been working out constantly, being active would help plus I go dancing almost every weekend. But now I cant do it for long, I have difficulties breathing since my throat is sore and my nose is always stuff in both sides, and then if i continue I feel esophagus pain. I'm starting to believe that the infection is growing into my head and my esophagus. My doctor doesnt take it serious ever. I dont know what to do I am a singer, radio host and a very social influential person I feel like Im out of it, sometimes people dont even understand when I talk I sound like fes from the 70's show

I have a friend that is also a singer and had a sore throat infection, or thats what he told me, and got his tonsils removed. He has been fine ever since and sings better than ever. I am gonna look into it hopefully it will work

Sounds like you need your tonsils out. They are trapping the infectious bacteria but not doing anything with it so they are unnecessary. It's a very common procedure and recovery is speedy. Look up tonsillectomy surgery for more details on the procedure. Sounds like you have tonsillitis.

Tonsillitis can disrupt your sleeping by blocking your airways causing snoring or little intake of oxygen (kind of like sleep apnea). It can cause harm to your body because you don't want to swallow because it hurts and then you aren't getting the vital nutrients you need for energy to help fight off infections. If your tonsils stay swollen for long periods of time, it can get down even into your kidneys. I say get them removed. Especially if different antibiotics aren't working.

Why would you call an Ent? Ents are tree people; I don't believe that they would know anything about tonsillitis or mononucleosis.

ENT = EAR NOSE THROAT DOCTOR. Not tree people. Seriously???

Try looking up the disease mono. I had that for 3 weeks and there are no cures. It makes you fatugued and tired all the time. The main thing it does is enlarge some organ (can't rmber which) and you can't lift anything or it'll bust and kill you. It also produces the white spots (like you've seen)

I think you might be on to something there. I had weird boils all around my throat/face about ten years ago that my doctor couldn't diagnose. I was never given anything for them and they eventually went away on their own. They only come back in a mild way (one or two) if i shave too closely. About five years ago I got chronic tonsillitis. After my fourth round of antibiotics it started coming back again and I gave up on going to the doctor. I started taking painkillers and gargling salt water several times a day and after a few weeks it finally went away. Then a couple of years ago i had a pain in my ears that wouldn't let me sleep but my doctor misdiagnosed it as nothing too serious. After a couple of nights of not sleeping, even after sleeping pills, and being extremely ill i ended up at the hospital where I was diagnosed with tonsillar cellulitis. After a couple of days of intravenous antibiotics I was okay again. It came back the other day again after a social smoke (the first in about a year). I recognised it and my doctor prescribed good ol' penicillin that has subdued it but....I think i can still feel it dormant in my ears/head. Ewwwwwwwww! Yes it sucks.

Someone on here mentioned gargling with aloe vera juice... it didn't seem that great of a suggestion to me at first, but trust me, you should try it.
Starting about two weeks ago, I started to get a sore throat, which I tried to fight through for four days--craters filled with white-yellow pus all over my tonsils, which were swollen large enough to touch each other. Excrutiating to swallow, breathe... I could barely sleep or eat. On day four I went to the doctor, they ruled out strep, started me on an antibiotic and a steroid for mono (glandular fever). However, six days later I got a call--the blood test came back negative, it wasn't mono. During these six days, my condition didn't get better... it got worse. A lot worse. I hadn't slept in three days because I could hardly breathe, I barely drank half a glass of water a day because the pain from swallowing was so awful that I would just choke. I couldn't even speak because whatever I had had spread down my throat and was affecting my voice box. I was gargling with salt water constantly, drinking hot tea, forcing down the NSAIDs and my antibiotics (the doctor advised me to stop taking the steroids since it wasn't mono). It was hell. But nothing helped, and I was ready to go to the ER to get a tonsillectomy. The white craters had spread all over my tonsils, completely covering them. Then yesterday I cruised through this thread, trying to figure out if anyone else had what I had (I've found similar, but I'm not sure if anyone's has been as severe as mine). I saw the comment about aloe vera juice, and figured I might as well try it. I bought two bottles from a local health-nut type grocery place (as you can tell, this isn't my normal course of action). I gargled with the stuff a few times and then fell asleep. And actually slept. This morning I woke up, and my tonsils were 1/3 the size they have been. I've drank three or four bottles of water today, and eaten for the first time in four days. The pain is down from an 8/10 to a 2/10. My fever, which was a persistent 103 for over a week, is finally gone. Now, either the antibiotics finally kicked in in a VERY substantial way out of nowhere... or this aloe vera thing really does work. Anybody who has this mystery chronic pharyngitis garbage that I had, just try the aloe vera gargle. It may be some sort of miracle cure.

OK, kind of a long story...a little over a year ago I got what I thought was strep throat. I went to the doctor, leanred that it wasn't strep, but they could not identify exactly what it was. I had pain in my throat and white spots on my tonsils. Also, my right tonsil was very large (almost covering half of my throat). I battled that for almost two months. I went through three rounds of different antibiotics. During that time my I felt the worst pain I've ever felt in my life. It not only hurt to swallow, but my right tonsil literally hurt constantly, a very stinging pain. Finally the pain and white spots went away after the third try with antibiotics. The swelling went down a little, but my right tonsil has remained very large for the past year. Finally, a few weeks ago, I noticed a slight pain in my throat and saw white spots on my tonsils once again. I immediately went to the doctor and was given yet another antibiotic. It took away any pain that I was having, and almost got rid of the white spots completely (they were very very small once i finished with the antibiotic). Today I have noticed a slight pain once again (almost a week after finishing the antibiotic). The white spots have started to enlarge as well. Going to the doctor seems pointless as they never can tell me exactly what I have and I only seem to get antibiotics that work only temporarily. I have seen 3 different doctors, so its not like I simply need another doctor to give me yet another antibiotic. Any ideas on what I should do or what I might have?

Hey, I have the exact same thing also. My tonsils are just a little swollen with white puss spots on them. I have no pain or trouble swallowing, etc. I've been tested for mono, and my tests came back negative. I'm not sure what's wrong. Did y'all ever figure it out?

I forgot to add that my tonsils have been like this on and off for months.
