I have had all of these same symptoms... chronic lower right abdomenal pain that radiates to my lower right back. Sometimes the pain goes down my right leg also. Sometimes 600mg of ibuprofen doesn't even help! Been to Dr's and they also say nothing is wrong. A friend told me about a good Gyn here in Chicago, so hopefully she can help me figure it out. I have suspected endometriosis or cysts. I am happy to find this forum! The pain is really wearing me down and makes it hard for me to work and do everyday tasks. It also makes me more emotional than usual, which is hard to deal with.
hi ya! I had all of the symptoms you are describing but i finally found a surgeon to do exploratory surgery in January 2008 and it turns out i had endometriosis, a small obstructed bowel, twisting adhesions, a bleeding ovaryand a huge cyst. I had been fiercely seeing doctors for over a year and had extreme pain unrelieved by pain killer. They did every test imaginable including taking a liver biopsy. It turns out everything i had couldn't really be diagnosed by xrays and catscans. only the cyst could be. So if you are really having troubles find a doctor that will take it seriously and get you out of that pain. I couldn't have sex couldnt sit for long periods of time, had trouble eating and sleeping. Don't give up and stay in pain!
I had a radical hysterectomy to include lymph nodes, part of my vagina and both ovaries 14 months ago due to cancer and I have developed a constant back ache in my lower back, pain in my left leg that actually ceases up if I sit for too long in one position and an intermittent swelling in the left lower abdomen. I have not yet approached the doc with this as I wanted to find out how common this is. looking at this site tells me everybody seems to have post op back ache. should i be convinced by the surgeon's 'prolapse concern' ideas? my bladder has problems since the op which I have been having physio for but my surgeon feels it may result in surgery to have a 'hammock' stitched in to hold the bowel and bladder in place. Any one out there who can help me with this one? G
I too have all these symptoms, lower back ache, tummy fullness, pain usual from the right pelvis and down my thigh... Sometimes even in the left pelvis, I suffer from reacurrent water infections. I am 19 years old and have been suffering from with this from my 19th Birthday when i got rushed to hospital. Which was last september. I Had a coil recently removed so my doctor kept fobbing me off telling me it was my coil ansd that it would settle. He would take it out for me!!! So in the end I ended up going to a random family planning clinic and jst getting it done myself. Because he just kept telling me I had pelvis inflamatory. Over christmas I was on roughly 4 consequive courses of antibiotics ... a Cominded Antibiotice Treatment with metronidize and smert else. These have made me really nervous of going to the doctors now because these antibiotics happen to make me feel really rough. I also get pain after intercourse ranging from about 5 hours to 24 hours later, However, when i move around n walk, the paint does seem to be there, until i stil or lie down. Ive suffered with it constantly now for so long, i cant even tell if i have pain to touch my lower abdomen, I dont think i have any. I saw an on call doctor about 2 days ago and he has reffered my for an xray to check my pelvis bone and spine.
So overall, what do we all think this is? endometriosis?? Im 19 years old and this is ruling my life alreay!!

It is important to educate yourself. There are many causes for lower back and abcminal pain.
We have a complex digestive track. The digestive culprit is usually the ascending, descending and transverse colon. One important item to rule out quickly though -is a test for an inflamed appendix, or for women reproductive organs that can mimic digestive issues and vice versa. You know an emergency has started when you have flu like symptioms to go along with your pain. That being said, sometimes we get thsoe sysmptoms without ANY pain, but bloating instead. Unless you need to regulate blood sugars liquid fast with low or no sugars. Stay away from red dyes (jello), and definately lay off of sugar products. Fast or near fast for a few days to see if your symptoms become less. While doing this take off your shoes, find a thin rug if you have sensitive heals, and go to your tippy toes and bounce down hard on your heals a few times. Can you take your right hand and move it straight down to a pain on the same side near your pelvis? This is a probable appendix inflammation or one that may burst. The upper cradle of your pelvic (the outer edge is (same on both sides), take your ruler and a few inches in is your ovary (not guys silly). Your tubes that allow an egg to pass to the uterous attaches to the ovary and also has one on the left side these filopian tubes as they are called make a near "V" with your uterous at the bottom of the "V." What can complicate a diagnosis is food and drink. Tell you what, if you aren't allergic to a laxitive like x-Lax. Use that as recommended and eat clear broth and lots of water for a day or two. Do not do anything if you think your appenidx could be the issue...Remember the heal bouncing technique. YOu will have pain in a localized area and should seek a doctor right away for this. Those of you who find a pattern from fasting then eating your usual with a few days you should flare up again if you are sensitive to some foods. You amy need to see an alergist. Going back to the pain and organ map I was describing to you. When you are stretched out and still moving up from the ovary the next organ that becomes trouble some but has it's unique upper abomin and general malase symptoms is the gal bladder. Have a heavy diet of leguemes for a few months to see it this helps. Remember if you are turning yellowish in your skin have a low to high fever and have a localized "hot spot" to hell with what I am writing and get to your doctor! You know you are eating healthy if your excretions really stink. Legumes, as they pass through our body pulls putrid oils from our gall bladder and we eventually pass this. However, if we are a fast find the food and eat it kind of person then your problem is your diet. The Liver basses oily bile to your gall bladder and your gall bladder will only pass these poisons to your digestive tract if you are eating something that will absorb it. Legumes is your only bet for high absorbtion naturally. I would start adding legumes to a couple of my meals that I eat a day, and for the first few weeks I would have more legumes than I would ever normally have. That being said, please eat legumes more often. I do not mean over processed, and salted. Get some fresh and steam then or eat them raw, of course add flavoring, but also remember to chew well...You will see an enzymatic change. If you are on blood thinner though, get advice from your doctor, he may havea fiber pill that will not promote vitamin K, which screws with blood thinness.
I almost forgot to mention if legumes are not eaten at all and you hate them get your doctor to right you a prescription for cholestid or a similar pill form fiber (cheaper than metamucil!). Our bile that is caught in the gall bladder waiting to leave will recirculate into the liver, and you will feel "crappy" eventually. Women tend to feel the crappiest after years of poor eating habits and the ducts of the gall bladder have bile balls from old bild blocking the ducts and only small amounts are making it out. There is a fast test for this with your gastrointerologist. If there is a problem and he doesn't think a long term diet with a daily portion of legumes will help he may suggest removing the gall bladder. A lot of people find relief quickly, but find they are not as tolerant to oily foods and fake cheeses.
-Back to reproduction. Mettzelsmerts ----This is when blood is passed with your egg (women only!) This causes lots of pain and can last for a day or three but is acute at the onset). Another is when a girl becomes active and doesn't realize she at some point gained a veneral disease and lost it while on an antibiotic for something else. What the hell am I talking about? long term slow damage to your reproductive organs and cause you didn't know you were messing with a guy or gal that was sexually active with a walking toilet or two. usually that slick guy that always makes ya feel right but always has a valid reason for being away, and you co-dependently endorse his lies, even though your gut which you should listen to is saying he is a freak and I should quit being attracted to a walking herpes zoster man cause he juggles women the same way he gets pleasure from grooming his face and always whereing close that make him look just so....Sorry about that I have had a few friends and my wife has too for that matter who end up sick or broken from slimeballs. BACK TO THE HELP: Endemetriosis, fibroids, STD warts on the inside only (can cause ya cancer sooner or later), and a whole lot of cysts that never seem to stay gone. A cyst is a sac of fluid, and when it finally grows as far as it can it will burst. Before then though it may start out mimicing pains that usually occur with bad gas that won't quite leave. Then whether it bursts or not you have messed up tubes and can be prone to tubal pregnancies --every month! You can remember before you met (mans name) you had a pretty normal period. After the first year you were bloated with some pain. Later on you started having a lot of more severe more acute pains but the bloating was gone now. You have developed fibroids and endimtriosis. Probably from your sex life. They can repair these problems quite often but it takes a specialist and can run around 20,000 or more and they go in and use an argon type laser if you are serious about having kids, or they say hey you are older we can remove the sore ovary and the issue should subside. But, with all this information your brain is overloading and you are thinking yeah, but I hurt some when I pee. Or I get a sharp pain below and at my belly button. This and middle to lower back pain on both sides. If it was acute and caused you to arch your hips forward --kidney stones probable, if it is your bladder and urinary tracts from your kidneys you may have radiating pain from the bladder to the kindeys or vice versa. These pains are usually below and at the back of the belly button. They can find out quickly with a urine test at urologists or ER if you are dire. The last thing we have not approached is muscle pain in the back mimicing some of the aforementioned pains and the complication of the psiatic nerve...Remembering that raidiating pain can cause us to misdiagnose and we should always follow up with a physician and not kill ourselves...What i was mentioning above is something you can try to help diagnose yourself when the doctor keeps getting it wrong. Does the lack of sugar for a few weeks cause the pains to lesson or disappear? Did you quit eating fruit and vegetables while they still have tiny seeds? Tomatoes etc? Remembyer liquid diets can help us figure it if is our intestines, stomach or deuydodum. As a first step eat foods that break down and easy. Stay away from seeds, and fat laden meats for awhile. Then change to a liquid food diet that is clar for three days. using a EZ-M appraoch. If you find that your issues subside -go see a gastrointerologist. If it is not found with all the tests and no specialist has ever fixed your problem. Go see a about lower back problems. There are siezure medications that also relieve lower back pain without being a narcotic. Narcotic drugs are like pop corn or any other thing that you may think fixes you and yo uget t ofeel good for a bit too...They have their own long term complications. One is we get used to them and need more and more until our liver cannot work properly and we die. Or we slow our digestive system down to where the pain pill will at some point ascerbat that lower back pain, by causing inflammation then your psiatic nerve is hurt. Or yecause your bowels have sludge stuck in them the psiatic nerve become aggravated because of all the spasms from your bawels..... Mix that with the gall badder releasing it's oils and you will eventually be worse off with your fun pain reliever. So leave the oxycodone, hydrocodone, and other opiate based drugs alone. Use them for very short periods and not cosistently for weeks on end unless you are traveling towards death from cancer or some other painful terminal illness. If you are taking more than two at once or mor ethan six a day. You are a dope head or dying. As for the women who have trusted and now are smarter I feel bad for what you went through to end up with these complications. For those women who are not sure which guy messed them up -go celibate and see if he still loves you for the three months you are going to devote to fixing your body. After the three months if he is still there have him looked at for STD before you commit your life to him. If a few men or women lose their relationships due to this prescription then so what he or she didn't care enough to gain trust. TRUST IS NOT READILY GIVEN OR TAKEN-IT IS NOT A QUARTER FOR THE PHONE. IT IS YOUR LIFE. Protected sex means he wears something too! At that time when you want a baby it should be special and you both should be clean. ----the last little bit is for those women who have had trouble, but only after the baby was born. LOOK FOR A SPECIALIST. You know you are with the right urologist when you say have you talked and worked with very many women who started having pains only after they were healed and now it doesn't go away? Your doctor should be ready to answer you, you have the right to take the time and ask him. If you have to, ask him for twenty REAL minutes of his time. It is doubtful you would have to ask a female gynecologist this, unless you reminder her of her evil sistero mother! :) Actually that was a joke....But I ahve found that insurance matters, and it is usually harder to get the investigation into your specific problem, unless you have cash up front for each visit or damn good health insurance. Just remember to mention that you want a synopsis of the approach to get through the symptoms to the problem. If you do not have a teaching docotr (ie..one that talks) flush him. Find one that will test you, but let you know what they are testing. We are made mostly of water, and if something is dirtying us it is usually something we are sensitive to, or something we have done with someone dirty. If you are young and want to be safe see a counselor on dating and sex first. Or you may repeat the cycle that you learned from the woman that was around when you were young. Oh, by the way sexually tranmitted disease can infect your eyes, your mouth, and other areas around your face. So felatio is sex and it can transmit to you and your stomach is not a garbage disposal! Now that is the other organ I forgot to mention! Ulcers! yech! You will know cause the pain is uually just below, at, and above the sternum....and remember hernias in those areas are not usually seen, but felt like a small heart event (attach), and may be accompanied with heart burn. To back off of the heart burn, stay away from coffee and orange juice and fatty food for a few days and see if the heart burn stays gone...your stoamch sphincter may need a break. Pills are usually the first line of defence. What I just mentioned to you may help in a dietary fashion. Then I suggest a dietician. Cause fresh squeezed OJ, and half strength coffee may help, but stay away from the fat foods anyway cause you will make your gallbladder go into overtime then you will have to eat the legumes you do not like! lol

I have also had the same exact symptoms! My period started, same as usual, the same day I started getting pains in my abdomen, so bad that it would make me cry. I couldn't stand up straight, and my period was very very heavy, I used at least one package of maxi pads in one day! It was the most excruciating pain I have ever been in, in my whole life. The pain is still there slightly, but more when I try to use the rest room and have a bowel movement. Please Help!
I am experiencing lower adominal pain as we speak. Lower left. Feels like someone is punching a knife in my lower left side. I also have some lower back pain on that same side. I was wondering if I should go to the hospital or wait it out until the morning? It is very hard for me to walk. I walk all hunched over like I'm 90. What should I do?
I HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME PAIN THAT ALL OF YOU HAVE DESCRIBED SINCE I STARTED HAVING PERIODS. I FOUND OUT THAT EVERY TIME YOU OVULATE, YOU PRODUCE A CYST ON THE OVULATING OVARY. SOME WOMEN FEEL THEM AND SOME DON'T. MOST WOMEN NEVER KNOW THAT THEY ARE THERE. BUT I DID. FOR SEVERAL YEARS, I WENT THROUGH EXACTLY WHAT ALL OF YOU ARE GOING THROUGH. WHEN I WAS 20, I HAD MY FIRST CHILD. HAD NO PAIN WHILE I WAS PREGNANT. AFTER HAVING MY CHILD, IT SEEMED LIKE THE PAIN GOT WORSE. WHEN I WAS 21, I HAD MY SECOND CHILD. AGAIN, NO PAIN WHEN I WAS PREGNANT. I HAD MY TUBES TIED AFTER THE BIRTH OF MY SECOND CHILD AND THAT SEEMED TO CAUSE ALL KINDS OF ISSUES. A FEW YEARS LATER WHEN I WAS 26 AFTER UNDERGOING ALL THESE TESTS, A DOCTOR REMOVED MY UTERUS WHICH RELIEVED THE CRAMPS, BUT DID NOTHING FOR THE PAIN. THEY FOUND THAT THE SOMETHING IN MY UTERUS WAS GROWING THROUGH THE UTERAN WALL. I HAD SCAR TISSUE AND ENDOMITRIOSIS. WHEN I WAS 28, THEY REMOVED MY RIGHT OVARY AND WHEN I WAS 29, THEY REMOVED MY LEFT. NOW AT 30 YEARS OF AGE I AM PAIN FREE BUT I FEEL GUTTED LIKE A FISH AND HAVE SINCE DIVORCED AND REMARRIED TO A MAN THAT WILL NEVER HAVE CHILDREN OF HIS OWN. SO MY ADVISE TO YOU IS THAT IF YOU CAN HANDLE THE PAIN WITH PAIN RELIEVERS AND THEY DO NOT FIND ANYTHING THAT IS MAJORLY WRONG WITH YOU, TRY TO DEAL WITH IT. TRY TO FIND HOMEOPATHIC REMEDIES IF POSSIBLE. I HOPE I HAVE HELPED SOMEONE BY TELLING YOU MY EXPERIENCE. BEST OF LUCK TO YOU ALL.
all of these sound like endometriosis... in which the uterin tissue grows outside the uterus. it can grow onto the intestines and all over !!!!!! it takes years for that to happen but its been seen. Ive also heard of women having ovarian cysts and every time they had a bout of gas its would put pressure there causing the cyst to become irritated. of coarse they had no idea it was gas either.
I have most of these symptoms as well, and I was absolutely positive that I had endometriosis. I've been through all kinds of ultrasounds, blood work, etc., but this summer I had a surgical laparoscopy and hysteroscopy to diagnosis endometriosis and look for cysts. I was totally surprised when the lap showed no signs or endo and absolutely no cysts.
In other words, all my doctors have no idea what is causing this pain. I am beginning to think that it is not a gynological problem, because I've had so many tests, and the surgery would have definitely diagnosed a problem.
So...I have no idea what is wrong. But...it is incredibly frustrating!
Good luck to everyone. And, please post if anyone ever gets a diagnosis.

The solution for me is ice, a decent pair of shoes, relaxing periodically throughout the day, moderate exercise, a good chair with lower lumbar support, and more ice.
The problem for me was being caused from swelling in my lower back, which effects the central nerves to ALL of the lower abdominal organs and the tops of the legs. I also have ovarian cysts. Ovarian cysts are irritated by caffeine (caffeine can also cause breast tenderness). So, if you drink caffeinated drinks...minimize your intake. (I now drink 4 cups of 1/2 caf. coffee, and if I want more, I drink 'Cafix', which tastes similar to coffee but has no coffee or caffeine in it).
Buy a couple of pliable, jell-filled ice packs. When laying on your back, have it positioned where the bottom of the ice pack is at the top of your butt-crack. The pain should begin to subside within 5-10 minutes. If this works for you (to any degree at all) you can be quite sure that swelling is the problem causing the pain.
I ice my back several times a day while relaxing (laying on the floor with knee's up, and my arms behind my head for about 10 mins). I also go to bed with the ice pack, and when I get up, I ice while my coffee's brewing. The difference has been tremendous both physically and emotionally. (the power is now in my hands...which has an ice pack in it! Ha! )
OK, that helps with the pain, now what causes the swelling? Alot of things are possibilities. If you can narrow it down, you can then begin to alter what you're doing. Poor shoes are a start - Like, high heels and flip-flops. Try walking in high heels, flip-flops, and a sensible pair of shoes with a wide, tapering sole. Consciously note what parts of your body are the most effected upon impact. For me, it's consistently my lower back. Flip flops cause me to stiffen my foot, which stiffens my leg, which makes me absorb the 'shock' of impact at my lower back, rather than in my legs. Not good!
I also work at a computer all day. It's imparitive that the lower back is properly supported. I stuff a very thin pillow behind me.
Also, stomach muscles help support the back muscles. Strengthen your stomach muscles, and your back will benefit, which will then benefit your abdomen.
Flat feet, one leg shorter than the other, pigeon toes, stomping (instead of walking 'normally'), etc....all of these things can/will aggravate your back, which aggravates your abdomen, which aggravates all the organs within. You may need to change the way you're walking, or see a professional for shoe inserts (or try over-the-counter ones initially, and see if they help at all)
I hope this helps all of you who are so afraid because of the pain. there are simple causes for most things that frighten us. Don't let the medical profession scare you into a panic, or worse, a sense of helplessness and impending doom.
Try these things I've mentioned for two weeks and see if your pain ratio doesn't get cut at least in half. If this works for you, you know that the foundation of your problem is coming from your feet, poor muscle condition, etc. It's simple, non-threatening, and most importantly: treatable by YOU.
Best of luck to you all!

:-( I have been in constant pain since Oct 12 2008. I was hospitalized for it from Oct 13-17th 2008. I had 2 CT w/ & w/out contrast, a sonogram, trans-vaginal ultrasound, blood work, urinalysis, lumbar MRI and still nothing.
I've been out of work since the 13th of October. They have me on Gabapentin, Percocet & Flexeril for pain. They've ruled out: cysts, endometriosis, kidney stones, urinary tract infections, appendix issues, surgical adhesions, fibromyalgia, pinched nerves, arthritis, ectopic pregnancy, gall stones, sacroiliac joint dysfunction.
My pain is generally in my lower back - left side but can radiate to my right. I get sharp shooting pains in my abdomen usually lower left side but sometimes right. My hips hurt. There is absolutely no comfortable position. However, I have no problems going to the toilet at all. NO pain, no burning, no pressure.
Next I get to see a GI who will do a colonoscopy but my primary doctor has openly stated they do not know why I am in so much pain. A very rude urologist suggested it was mental. At this point, they're basically throwing drugs at me to see if one of them sticks.
I'm constantly out of it now - the pain still comes back right thru the percocet. I want the pain to go away but I don't know how and I have to go back to work on the 10th because my family can't afford for me to be out like this. We wouldn't be able to pay our mortgage.
I dont' know what to do.

Well...I have been having all the same symptoms as most of you have stated...I went in about 2 months ago thinking I had a bladder infection, and the result was normal....I also had a blood pregnancy test done and that wasnt it either! With me the pressure/pain comes and goes...Its not all the time,it seems to go away when I have my period and a couple days after it. But then all of a sudden I will be laying down or something and I get massive cramps that feel like I am having labor pains....and over the course of the next few days the pain goes away and it just becomes a pressure/bloating feeling. I was seeing a family medicine doc and then he referred me to a Gyno...so we will see what that problem is at the end of this month...I am just sick of feeling like this not knowing what is going on! I have a 3 year old,so I was thinking maybe over time my body is changing and I am noticing things that happen every month, that I never did before...who knows!! I just dont want to become a person that the docs just keep giving out pills to with out even trying to find out whats wrong, and I dont want to be told its all in my head! I think as a doctor they shouldnt treat anyone like that!! Please if anyone here has updates,I would love to hear what the docs have done to help you out!! We are obviously not the only ones that feel like this!!! So just keep trying to find answers!!!
I had one child after having a procedure to shrink my fibroids......It is suggested not to get pregnant after having Uterine Fibroid Embolization but I was fortunate to get pregnant and have my one and only son. Since then, I have had pain in my lower right side groin during the night and morning after relieving a full bladder. I also, have a dull lower back pain.....I checked w/ my OBGYN and had an internal ultrasound and he found nothing wrong with me. He did say I have fibroids. I'm not sure if this pain could be caused by that or something w/ my kidney's, liver, or pancreas.....Has anyone out there had multiple fibroids w/ lower right groin and back pain? Should I worry?
I have been having similar symtpoms, especially where from below your rib cage to your hip it feels as if you are in a vice grip. I find my pain gets worse when I menstruate but that seems to be as a result of a lower pain threshhold at that time. I was diagnosed with endometriosis but my obgyn ruled that out as a cause of the pain. She felt it was more IBS (iiritable bowel symptoms). I throw up from the pain and pain killers just make me feel awful. Its hard to function in so much pain. Then two weeks ago I bled during intercourse (not anywhere near my menstruation time). I'm seeing my obgyn again in two weeks. I just got married and am keen on starting a family.
