It happened to me very suddenly at one in the morning. I was asleep and the pain awakened me. The pain is in my lower abdominal and travels across. It is also in my lower back. It hurt so bad I cried out. The pain was for an hour and then the ibeprofen kicked in. I have never felt anything this painful. I wonder how someone as young as me could get these symptoms.
I have been having the same pain in my abdomin and back I have been told all kinds of things that it was not. I finally went to my gyno and he did the urine test, blood test, ultra sound and x rays all came back with noting. So he told me he thinks it is Olsers on the bladder. It is call painful bladder systrome. Look it up and see if it is the same systomes you are having. It is more common in women then in men. Self magezine did and article on it a couple of months back. I go to see the urlaogist today.

I've felt similiar symptoms as well. Last week I woke up at 4am and had the worst pain even in my stomach and it wrapped around to my back. Not a specific area or spot, just all over. At first I thought I needed to throw up or go to the bathroom, but I didn't need to and couldn't do anything to help the pain. Walking was almost impossible. I broke out into a sweat from the pain and my skin got clammy (and I barely sweat when working out!). I laid there with the pain for about 1 hour, it helped to lay in the fetal position and put a pillow in-between my abs and legs. It just felt better to have pressure on my stomach and my legs up to my chest, it also felt better to rub my lower back because it hurt SO bad. On a scale from 1-10, I would give this pain a 8. I could hardly think it hurt so bad, all I could focus on was trying to calm myself down and self soothe. I fell asleep after about an hour, and when I woke up I felt fine.
Last night, the same thing happened- at 5am in the morning. Exact same symptoms, horrible pain, lasted about 1- 1 1/2 hours, pressure made it feel a little better and once I fell asleep I was fine.
My diet hasn't changed, I'm 23 and I exercise 3-4 times a week. I have no idea what this is. I'm afraid like many of you I'm going to go to the doctor (with no current symptoms since this happens at 4 or 5am) and they are going to do a bunch of expensive tests to find nothing.
Any thoughts?

I have a lot of the same symptoms and desperate to find what's causing the pain. My pain started about a year ago. It only happened occasionally at first, maybe a couple of times a month. Then it happened more frequently, maybe a couple of times a week. Now I'm in pain everyday. It flares up several times a day. Sometimes for only 15 minutes and sometimes for as long as 2 hours. The pain in my lower back feels exactly like my period cramps. I have severe period cramps, almost like labor pains and this pain is identical. But I also have pain in my lower abdomen. It hurts so bad that I have to lie down and moan and cry. I'm 44 years old, I have 3 children and my periods are very regular, like clockwork.
I finally made an appointment with my doctor. He has always been very thorough. He did bloodwork which came back normal. I did a urinalysis and gave a stool sample. Both were normal. I had an ultrasound which he told be showed that I had a few gallstones. Finally, I thought I could rid myself of this pain. He doesn't think the gallstones are causing my pain!! He said none of the ducts were blocked and something about the wall of my gallbladder not being thickened. I got a second opinion(because I wanted this to be the answer to my pain). I just recently had a biopsy on my breast, so when I went back to the surgeon to get the stitches removed I asked him about my gallstones. He agreed with my family doctor. It is possible to live with gallstones and not be affected by them. He said my pain would be right under my right ribcage and I would probably feel sick to my stomach. My abdomen pain is not up that high and I don't feel sick to my stomach. So, my family doctor took some more blood to do a liver panel. He gave me Naproxen for the pain, which does not help at all, although it does help my period cramps.
He asked me if I was under any stress and I told him about a couple of highly stressful things that I was going through. He thought that maybe it was related to stress, but I know how I feel when I'm stressed out. Yeah, my stomach hurts but not like this and I ususally do get sick on my stomach if I worry a lot. This is a different pain, a real pain.
I've been researching the internet, which brought me to this site, and I really believe I have irritable bowel syndrome. I just feel like my pain has to do with my intestines. My doctor already ruled out Celiac and Crohn's disease. I just have way too much gas and my intestines make very loud and embarrassing rumbling sounds that other people can hear all the way across the room. This is constant and I'm either taking Immodium AD or a laxative, it's either one or the other. All of this fits with Irritable Bowel Syndrome.
I may go to a gastroentologist just to make sure. If anyone has had similar symtoms please let me know.

I sympathize with your condition. I too have been suffering with bloating and pain along with constipation. After many tests x rays as well as a colonoscopy my doctor concluded that I had IBS. He said that it would improve but it has not. I have since changed my doctor and I am taking slippery elm powder twice a day (2 teaspoons in a glass of water) which is readily available from health shops. I had tried many different laxatives and medicines suggested by my doctor to no avail so if you are having this sort of problem please try it. It works wonders. Unfortunately despite getting relief in this area bloating and stomach pain continues. I have found eliminating wheat from my diet did help for a while. However, like you I have had increased stress in my life which seems to only make things worse.
My pain seems to be more in the early mornings and along with the stomach discomfort I have back pain around my waistline. Please let me know if you have similar pain. I too had my gallbladder checked and doctor said I needed to watch my fat intake. It is not causing my pain either.
Hope to hear you have found some relief or better still some answers.

Definitely IBS. I went through every test that you could imagine and finally got on medicine for IBS and I haven't had any systems since. Eat lots of fiber!!!!!
After reading this it has helped to hear that others are experiencing the same things. I have been in hospital for the last few days with severe abdominal pain and back pain mainly on the right hand side, I have also felt like some one has been ripping out my right bum and thigh. I have had urine, blood, examinations, scan and a camera put inside me and they have all come back fine. I have been given some strong pain killers and antibiotics but they dont know what is wrong with me (i had traces of blood in my urin yesterday but not today so they said that antibiotics couldnt hurt)
Has any one of you found out yet what is wrong with them as the hospital have now sent me away and there are no appointments at my gp!
I also find it best lying on my back with my knees up too as lying on my side as i normally to or sitting up just makes the pain ten times worse and also find sex servilely painful and have done for quite some time now! I would love to hear any advice or suggestions.
Hope your all ok now too!

After reading these comments i feel a lot better to know that it isnt just me experiencing these problems, I have spent the last few days in hospital after having blood tests, urine tests, doctors feeling outside and inside my lower abdominal, a scan and a camera inserted all to find that they don't know what is wrong with me but given my strong pain killers and antibiotics.
my symptoms have been: lower abdominal pain (also for over a year now), back pain mainly to the right (for the last week), pain with sex, feeling sick but not been sick, pain in my right bum cheek and down my thigh, fining it more pain full when sat up or lying on my side and less painful on my back with my knees up.
I would love to hear what out comes everyone has had and any advice that any one might have to help.
Hope you are all ok now too.

have the terrible pain in my lower back and lower abdomen, sensation in thighs and buttock, nausea since a month. went to the doctor and she said it might be muscluar or ovarian cysts. wait for ultasound in 8 wks.. so depressed... cant even relax because im worried if there something serious...i try not thinking too much... :-(
this very important symptom you speak of is a myth. I am speaking from experience on this matter. I had endometriosis 4 years ago which was treated via laperoscopy surgery, and was told by surgeon that my chances of conceiving again would be minimal, coupled with the fact that I suffer from Hypothyroidism, which also reduces your chances.
But I have a 3 year old son now, and believe me that was very unexpected when the news was broken of my pregnancy to myself and my partner. So don't be disheartened if you are told of infertility due to endometriosis, because unless you have been tested to show your are 100% infertile, I wouldn't that endometriosis 100% causes infertility

Hi
Iv just read through everyones posts as iv also been suffering with bad lower back pain, which iv had for about 2 weeks constantly now, but last night i woke up with excruciating lower abdomen pain & burning as well as the back pain. Iv not had this before. The back pain im kinda use to, off and on, as i have a history of back problems. Though this last couple of weeks, its been alot worse than usual, and along with the abdomen pain ... well it make me feel very sick, and reduced me to tears for over an hour.
I dont know if it makes any difference, but iv also not had a period for about 3 months ... which isnt that strange, as i was told a couple of years ago i had PCOD, so my periods can sometimes be messed up.
Just wondered if anyone had any thoughts on this. Im currently not at home, so cant get to my doctors, and wasn't sure if it would be something that warranted going to a doctors surgery where i am.

Wow it is really incredible to hear so many people with the saem exact symptoms. I am 30 years old and have been suffering for close to eight months. I keep being told it's ovarian cyst rupture. The pain does often come around the time of ovulation but last lingers and gest worse for several days following. It always is worse at night like another lady mentioned. It provides minimal relief to counter the pain (loer back and ab/pelvis) with a pillow pressure on my back. ut it does indeed feel like the worst period ever when it never is. I too amd quite regular and I know when it's happening it's not period but it mimicks it the same. It's alwasy the lower back throbbing pain with the cramps- but this last for days. The ob says it's cysts rupturing but every month to case pain two weeks or more consistently?? It's impacting my life and is so depressing :-( I'm sorry to hear amny are int he same pain. i wish I had some answers. I'm going for a MRI CT SCAN of pelvis and ab and bloodwork but I'm not hopeful much light will be shed :-(
